Just finished playing Moss 1 and 2 which was amazing. Gonna play Red Matter 1 & 2 next. Got quite a few others on my wishlist too.

I really wished this launched at a more reasonable price. I certainly would have purchased much sooner, and I think it would have been a lot more successful. I hope Sony don't completely ditch it as the tech is quite impressive and would be interesting to see where it goes in the next 5 years or so.

  • +1

Honestly I don't know what Sony expected. High launch price and not enough support.

    • +13

lets be honest, its a tale old as time for Sony.

      • +2

Why is everyone so 'honest' lol

        • +1

          honestly… i don't know

        • Honesty is the best policy

    • +1

Did the same to the PS Vita.

  • -3

sony's 2nd tier hardware always has terrible support

    eg. vita

    dont buy this

    only 2 games in dev.

but the pc adapter could be ok but i doubt it long term

    • +7

Only 2 Sony Studio games rumoured to be in development. Other developers/studios still releasing games.
One awesome looking game called Behmoth is supposed to come out some time this year.
Honestly, I was pretty hesitant to purchase based on a lot of negative stuff I had read, but I definitely have no regrets.
I don't get a hell of a lot of gaming time these days, so the realtively small number of games I definitely want to play on it (~15 games) will take me quite a while to get through.

      • +4

There are currently 296 games available for the PSVR2. Plus more in development. So not sure why many are whining about not enough content etc.

As Quest 3 really has taken off in the PC VR world, the PSVR2 will support PC games next month by the release of the PC adapter. Less features available on the PC version, however the OLED screen will still be a viewing pleasure.

Plus if you have an existing PVR1, you can get for free a camera adapter so you can use your PS5 to run cross generational games. Furthermore, it can play most older PS4 games

I am currently playing GT7 & Saints & Sinners 2 and the experience is breathtaking.

If you have an existing PS5, it's a no brainer IMO.

      • Check out Cold VR, that'll be a blast

  • -3

Bad reviews on Amazon it seems

    • +4

I have one, and its fantastic.

  • +2

I’m keen to know if this will be a good alyx be headset when the adapter comes out, looking for a cheapish way into that just for that one game

    • +1

Me too, I actually purchased it on steam the other day when it was posted here for that very reason. Another $100 for the adapter is a bit crap, but I am keen to try it.

      • +1

thanks for the heads up on Alyx Shaun, just purchased it now and am awaiting the release of the adapter!

    • +1

I hear good things about the Quest 3 and the fact it’s wireless. If you’re only looking to play a PC game anyway, that might be the way to go especially once you factor in the adapters cost.

      • -1

I remember Digital Foundry saying that the Quest 3 was superior and that's been giving me pause about jumping on a PSVR deal (I've also been burnt buying games on Lineman's recommendation that I really didn't enjoy too though.)

Obviously you need a decent PC to back up the Quest 3 if you want graphics as good as PSVR too.

      • Wireless is a fad and the internal battery will eventually die like mobile phone ownership. Then you'll be anchored like the PSVR unless you spend exorbitant amount of money to replace

        • -1

Pretty sure you've got nothing supporting your opinion. I suppose landline rotary phone will be making a come back any day now.

          • @FabMan: Really? Wireless and then after 2 years then wired as the battery needs replacement or game for 3 minutes chasing a socket in VR

            • -1

@vinni9284: Smartphones only last 2 years? Yet my Samsung S8 lasted me 6 years. My Quest 2 still works fine since October 2020 and I use it regularly. Battery packs are apparently great to use as well

I don't think wireless is a fad considering so many electronics devices are wireless, that WiFi 6 greatly reduced latency, and Quest 2 works great with WiFi.

              • -2

@FabMan: Lol. You must of forgot to mention owning several power banks. 6 years?? Kudos for not replacing it. My Pentium 3 will boot faster

                • @vinni9284: No power banks at all for my Samsung S8, I didn't play games on my phone so it did do everything I needed until I noticed the battery was going shit towards the end. You've just underestimated battery longevity.

                  • -1

@FabMan: Not really. You see, as the CPU/GPU performance is becoming more advanced with "supply on demand" applications (e.g. throttling, Multicore etc), manufacturers have offset this cost by reducing battery size. Hence the "shit" battery life of many late phones are more prominent. Plus applications are larger and more CPU intensive. Electronics are more tight today as per your S8 days

                    • +3

@vinni9284: You have your opinions, I have mine, I think 2 years is a ridiculous claim as otherwise we'd all be replacing our smartphones every two years since the Quest hardware is effectively the same as smartphone hardware.

Not me down voting you BTW.

                      • +2

@FabMan: All good. We're expressing our opinions. I respect that. I am not down voting you either.

              • +2

@FabMan: correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the wireless mode in q3 need to use the onboard gpu which is trash?

Pretty sure you can't just set 4k ultra settings on pc and have it sent wireless mode to q3???

You need a wire for high res?

So the battery isn't even an issue when you can't even stream high quality wirelessly

                • +2

@neosin: Quest 2 and 3 decompress video using the GPU. I tested my Quest 2 on a crap Wi Fi network and it was heavily pixelated due to reduced bandwidth. Played it using my computer connected to my WiFi 6 router and it looked great. I suppose that I could test a high reflex game over WiFi, to see how that fares with latency.

    • I played half life alyx on a second hand $100 og oculus and it was an insanely good experience

  • -1

I hope you like the measly existing library because PlayStation has given up on this.

They sent it out to die and reportedly didn’t even want to release it, but Sony pressured them.

    • +7

There are currently 296 games on PSVR2. Have you ever played 296 games in your lifetime?

      • +1

And most of these games are trash

        • +2

I have several, and i love them. Each to thier own

      • Still a better library on PSVR1.

Sony could have easily cut a couple of their six thousand live services games and get some top devs on incredible VR experiences.

        • +1

I still play on my VR1. The good thing is that i can buy second hand discs for peanuts and resell if in need. Won't be rich over it but you can't resell digital games.

  • +2

These will be a great bargain bin buy within the next 18 months.

  • -1

I hear this is Apples new price point for their version ,
Another couple of years it’ll be interesting to see where it’s all at .

    • +2

      Lol what?

It's like $6000 when it launches here.

I think you left a zero off your figure.

      • I read it was $3000 usd and they’re re-launching at a lower price of six hundred and something.
New article I read or maybe I’m wildly off ,
at this point I’m having serious doubts .

        • +2

Articles I’ve seen suggest they are looking at ways to cost reduce a future version of the Vision Pro. One article said they were looking for displays with lower resolution, for example. Some other articles have said they might offload compute to an iPhone or Mac rather than having their top end processors in the headset itself.

In the same vain the rumours said they want to get the headset close to the price of an iPhone, so you’re probably looking at $2000 to $2500 AUD still which would be a large saving over the current model, but a far cry from $600 USD. Honestly can’t see Apple ever going that low for this sort of thing.

All rumours but and all seemingly a long way away (multiple years).

          • @Smigit: What I read said that they had already maxed out the top end of the market with their current VR and were looking to get into the mass market at something like the cost of a console .
There is a whole rumour mill around Apple and technology in general so Who knows ,
Maybe their looking to compete with Sony VR and others ,
            Maybe not

            • @beach bum: We’ll see. Targeting current console prices would be very competitive and basically at cost with other “lower cost” options on the market like the PSVR2 and Quest. It’s not really like Apple to price devices like that, to come in at the low end. Even the cheapest iPad is well above a great many Android tablets, the cheapest iPhone is borderline approaching the mid to upper end of some other manufacturers, etc.

We’ll see but I’d be shocked if we saw a VR headset from Apple for under $2000 AUD, let alone $1000. That’s even if they offload compute to an iPhone or Mac. Can’t recall the last time they released a device that would be price competitive in the same manner. The base iPads about the closest and again this is a market where sub $200 Android tablets are common.

  • +5

Ngl I read around the hoops of watching porns on this is too much of a hassle for me. Looking into the Quest 3 rn.

  • Sadly despite the OLED happening on this device, unless they substantially update the PC adaptor to give full support, the Quest 3 is the better VR headset for PC, costs the same, and works both wirelessly and as a standalone device too.

Even with the update, it's still a trade between HDR quality and basic visual quality.

    • +1

You still need a decent PC to run, like needing a PS5. What happens when the Quest 3 battery dies oner time? Anchored? $199 battery replacement?

      • +1

Still a better passthrough VR headset, and I assume battery packs work.

EDIT: looks like they work so long as the battery can still charge to 5%, but at that point you're also considering the fire risk of the now ancient battery and the value of an ancient headset.

    Massive nerd alert ‼️

    • +2

Ah, we have found the resident minimum wage person in this thread.

  • +7

Played RE4 on this over the weekend and was blown away. Don’t think I’ve been that excited over a game since duck hunt on the nes. Waiting for a deal on g29 for GT7 now

    • That’s all I really want one for - to play GT7. Not quite ready to spend the money yet though.

      • +3

I recently been playing GT7 and with the VR experience, no racing game feels the same. They're plenty of used PSVR2 on FB marketplace. Bought mine for $400, 2 weeks ago and haven't looked back.

        • That’s very cheap - did you haggle down at all or was listed at that? I’m only seeing them listed for like $550-600 which is too close to RRP for me

          • @Gregors510: The seller had it for $500 and I repestfully gave him a direct offer of $400, no bullsh!t back and forth bidding & I will pick it up immediately. He accepted and now i'm enjoying VR gaming where the majority of the net/youtube-verse are whining about no more games; PS5 VR is dead etc. So far, I have purchased several VR disc games and loving it. The good thing about the disc purchases (as my PS5 obviously is the disc version) is I can negotiate the prices too. Not caught up into the digital shpere of the retailer "holding" onto your game on cloud that you've paid for. Plus, you can't resell your cloud games like Steam etc. There are many PSVR2's for sale as its for a 'niche' market. "The home gym set for gamers"

            • @vinni9284: As someone who has an extensive (and expensive) home gym (I use mine though) - I know what you mean. Any hobby people get sick of is a great way to get a bargain 😂

              • @Gregors510: Me too! I A home gym that is! I've purchased weights off a closing gym (Aussie bar bell & Melbourne gym equipment etc) as Derrimut gym is practically taking over like a plaque. Plus new bench press and adjustable weight presses to the mix.

    • +5

Agreed. RE4 remake in VR has been a top 5 gaming moment in the 35+ years of my gaming life.

  • No rush - it can wait…till it’s under $300

  • Like a lot of Sony products. DOA. Those that buy are buying into a dead end system. What has been released is the best it'll ever get. No doubt there will be a fire sale at some point.

  • Can someone tell me if the silicon piece that touches your eye/head on the headset can be removed/replaced/washed?

    thanks

    • +2

Yes, it can be unhooked, washed and replaced

  • +1

Worth every cent for gt7 alone

  • I would avoid

    https://www.techradar.com/gaming/sony-is-bringing-psvr-2-sup…

It's being reported that Sony is drastically scaling back its funding for PSVR 2 as well as first-party VR games for the headset.

The report comes from Android Central, where it's claimed that sources close to the outlet are suggesting that Sony is "making deep cuts" to VR game funding internally. Additionally, a second source told Android Central that just a couple of PSVR 2 games are in the works at Sony. What those games are, or if they'll ever even be released, remains to be seen.

    • If you've been around more than 5 mins, this is Sony's policy. If it's not an instant success, it'll just abandon it over a long drawn out process hoping to offload dead hardware to unsuspecting customers.

  • +9

I don’t think there would be many out there doing what I do. I bought my PS5, PSVR2 and the entire sim rig just to play GT7 only. I don’t even have a monitor, just PSVR2. I absolutely love it and never regret for one bit.

The game is so optimised for both console and the accessories. So easy to pick it up and play a heart pumping race for 30mins every now and then. Genuinely, will buy it again in a heartbeat

    • +1

GT7 is amazing even with just a controller. It totally changes the feeling of side by side racing and the thrill of it all.

  • +3

At least Sony is being somewhat innovative (or persistent) by continuing VR, unlike Microsoft who killed off their Kinect and is just buying game studios and closing them (Tango, etc). The Switch 2 is really just more of the same with a faster processor, nothing new tracking wise.
For those who don't want to give Zuck their money or buy a gaming PC, this is a good option.

    • -1

I wish people would come to their own opinions and not spew shit like this from someone who said it on YouTube, this screams like fanboy talking points from some cringe PS podcast.

      • Why would I watch people on YouTube? This is my opinion.
At least Sony is still pushing VR, I enjoy VR and hope it continues to get invested in.

    • At least Sony is being somewhat innovative (or persistent) by continuing VR, unlike Microsoft who killed off their Kinect

VR is still consider a niche product in the general gaming market

I don't think PSVR1 and PSVR2 has been great sellers for Sony because when the product cost as much (or even more than console)
that is alot of money for average consumer to spend to get into VR (Gaming console cost + PSVR2 cost)..

People also can't game in VR for long without getting motion sickness…

Microsoft also attempt Kinect 1 and Kinect 2 before killing it off.

I think Sony probably gonna killed off VR product after PSVR2 (if reports of Sony story is true https://www.techradar.com/gaming/sony-is-bringing-psvr-2-sup…)

The Switch 2 is really just more of the same with a faster processor, nothing new tracking wise.

Switch 2 might be less of hit cos there are more competition in the portal PC market..
However Ninetendo fans will still get it for the nintendo exclusive games.
Also Nintendo is seen as more kid friendly which means more parents would likely to get one for the kids.

For those who don't want to give Zuck their money or buy a gaming PC, this is a good option.

Even though not a fan of giving Zuck money,
but the metaquest is probably better product for VR if you want a lot long term support + usage out of it..
cos it can be used standalone or connected to the PC..

How does the steam index VR compared to meta quest VR products?
Also worth waiting for steam index 2?

      • I’ll be honest, I own the Quest 3, and owned the Quest 2 before that. Prior to that it was original Rift.
Valve index was too hard and expensive to get here.

I’m really not a fan of cables. I’ll use airlink to play Alyx but the majority of games don’t actually call for a desktop PC.

You’re probably right that Sony will kill it, but for now at least there’s some diversity.

  • +1

I was keen to buy today and they rise the price again!!!

  • At this rate, this will be under $500 by boxing day
