Its been around this price for a while. but it is a great watch !

  • +8

FYI - These have a resin case & lens. Only the bracelet is stainless steel & only 33.2mm wide.
    Casio Website.

    • +1

Woah I didn't know the had a circular version (A171WE-1A), this is so cool.

    • +1

If you want a full stainless case you could get the Timex T80, although it's about $100. It's very thick but the indiglow backlight is much much better. I don't see the point in spending too much for a piece of retro nostalgia though.

  • -4

Y'all going to an 80s themed costume party or something? Why are these kind of watches so popular here.

    • +69

      It’s a shiny f91w - what’s not to like -

It's like the watch your dad had in 1989. It is cool for this fact because you are now the same age as your dad in 1989. You never understood this basic watch in your younger years since you always wanted a Rolex or Omega. You always wanted a Lamborghini or Ferrari too but guess what? You are older and drive a paid off Camry and just like that Camry this little beauty is the most practical thing ever and can probably survive WWIII. It can get beat up, neglected, you can leave it on at the neighbor's pool party and it will always be there to tell you happily that lunch time is in 10 minutes.Yeah 10 minutes can you believe that the morning went so quick for a Tuesday? Also remember it is now June. Yeah May kinda flew by right? It is a certain confidence that lets the world know you aren't compensating for any lack of character. It's not even solar. Keep of the light button and the battery will last 11 years no problem but, you will probably drop it on a cruse before then and have a archaeologist in 3789 C.E. find it in the now drained ocean and think it is a ancient symbol of our god 'Casio'. Yeah it is tougher than nails. And yes button 'A' is recessed more than the other buttons so your grubby mitts won't accidentally hit it and engage the 'change time' mode and eff up you perfectly synced quartz Feng Shui. Casio has got you bro.

I'd have to ask his other family what kind of watch my dad wore…

        • +1

          r u ok?

      • +8

Possibly one of the greatest comment replies in OzB history right here. Double digit upvotes don't do it justice. This needs to go straight to the OzB pool room.

@WatchNerd: Actually curated vintage copy pasta. Id like to think chatgpt will never be able to replicate organically the level of shit posting of the old master craftsmen (or crafts people I guess)

    • I completely agree. My style is much more early 1900s

    • It competes with the $20 watches you see a BigW and KMart, except it works.

      • +5

Please dont compare kmart and bigw watches to Casio.

        Casio is God tier

    • With the exception of smart watches, nearly all watches are based on 20th century design

      • Arent analogue watches based off sun dual designs?

    • Land fill for your grand kids 😉

      • Landfill

  • W800H-1 is a good price too. What other watch has full date time?

    • Whats your budget?

    • Looks a bit like a classic 5600 gshock

  • +1

    Lovely. Yoink. Thanks!

  • +3

I love the Amazon styling guide is just a white T-shirt and jeans.

  • +1

Grabbed, used to have a F91w as a kid which has long been lost. Time to spoil myself with the A158w

  • +1

    The bracelet eats my hair

    • +1

      I had the same issue.

What i did was put a bit of scotch tape underneath the bracelet.

  • +1

Can we have this added to the pyramid from the forum post about luxury watches?

  • I ordered one from same seller last week and can confirm it is genuine (was concerned as there are many fakes out there).

  • -3

It’s fake fy all info. I ordered one last week and returned it straight away

    https://imgur.com/DeNrzGW

    • +2

      What makes this fake?

      • -3

You can clearly see the clear film is placed not in a proper way

      • I'm no expert in watches, but the red "WR" on the bottom-right of the face differs from the picture on Amazon. There's no red line around the "WR" on the watch pictured on Amazon.

Is there more than one version of this watch? The Casio website shows the line: https://www.casio.com/us/watches/casio/product.A158WA-1/

        • The pic on amazon is clearly wrong. If you look at ginger-gin's image it matches what's on casio site.

          • @mg_k: So the one in this deal is counterfeit? Or at least, it's showing a picture of a counterfeit watch?

The picture doesn't change if I select the one sold by Amazon. Could it be Amazon who's at fault here, showing the wrong picture?

          • +1

@mg_k: They are fine. Id worry about it more on eBay.
            Just get one. Free returns.

    • +1

I doubt it would be fake if sold and shipped by Amazon.
Do you have a pic of the back?

Btw you can check by holding the right button for over 3 seconds in the main timekeeping mode; this will lead the display to show "CASIo", as a test for authenticity.

      • Don’t know this check but from the packaging to the film make me highly doubtful and i just returned it for my own sake

        • Wouldn't worry about the packaging, lately I didn't receive the plastic box thing either (for an F91W).
You could always order again I guess?

        • I absolutely agree there is a 2nd Copy Casio watches as well in the market. Its a big market in India & I know the market & some people who sell them.I have 2nd Copy Rayban Glasses which I buy every year when I visit but you can only make it out if you go deep looking into it for sure. 😄

      • +1

It’s not sold by Amazon tbf

I said this in a previous Casio deal thread but I think it’s worth repeating: the Amazon AU price often isn’t much more than the third party seller price. IMO it’s 100% worth spending a few more dollars for peace of mind

        • Yeah I just noticed that. Still free 30 day returns.

Got a link for one that's a bit cheaper?
Ordered to f105w (sending back f91w), it's legit but worth the extra $6 for lumimator, same seller.

          Not worth spending $45-55 elsewhere.

          • +1

@G-rig: If you click on other sellers, Amazon AU is selling this for $34.65 lol

Since you like the illuminator, maybe you’d prefer an a168 to this though

            • @beltdrive: I know what you are saying, I guess whoever posts the deal should select the right one then. I still trust 'Amazon's Choice' and the number of ratings (which doesn't seem to distinguish between 'sold by'. I'll check that from now on, found another listing $33.64 vs $32. May get a proper box for the extra $1.64!!

Since you like the illuminator, maybe you’d prefer an a168 to this though

Yeah probably, I bought them both Aug 2023 and sent back the A168, Preferred the slimmer profile and purist form of the A158 (and didn't care about the light at the time).

Just think the f158w is worth the extra $6 over f91w, for a black resin beater. They are harder to come by, so don't always get a choice.
The W-86 is cool but discontinued and hard to come by but it's just a choice of aesthetics.

      • The fakes do display CASIo as well, so even thou this does (i bought one from same seller) it's not an end all be all signs that it's real.

        • Yes there are other ways to tell as I've mentioned in other threads too (Made in China/Thailand - not Malaysia), screw types, fonts.

Wouldn't overthink it for the price, I think you can tell when it's not right.

          • @G-rig: Ah yes, i forgot screw type. Can confirm the one i received checks out as well.

        • If you press all three buttons simultaneously it should display every character at once, I don't know if the fakes can replicate this but also worth mentioning. I also bought this watch from Amazon recently and everything points towards it being legitimate, not sure what ginger-gin is complaining about, unless he bought it from a dodgy third party there is no reason I can see for him to claim it is not authentic. Packaging can vary greatly so that isn't a cause for concern.

          • @s1Lence: Yeah I doubt they would go to that effort with the fakes, they are cheap watches/modules anyway.

          • @s1Lence: Well, check out the packaging for the f105w, above and beyond what I was expecting (shipped and sold by Amazon). Be interesting if the monster store would have shipped the same thing. Extra 6$ well spent over the F91W, and the light pisses over it.

            https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/213835/113874/pxl_2024…

Interesting the f105w made in Thailand (but both China and TH are acceptable as I previously mentioned). The f105w strap is more curvey not flat out of the box. Neither sit that well on my wrist but good not to overthink a cheap watch. Both LCD tests work, Shiro Aus warranty with the Amazon sold so who knows, probably just a more expensive model. Either way both 100% fine).

            • @G-rig: Why does your box write "yönetmeliğine uygundur"? Turkish packaging or something?

              • @s1Lence: Google it, dunno. Its the papers not the box.

                • @G-rig: That way of packaging a simple watch is quite wasteful, I'd rather the simpler packaging without the box and other unnecessary stuff.

                  • @s1Lence: Can't please everyone.
                    Just get whatever, lol
Almost every watch comes in a box, I think you are over scrutinizing a 30$ watch.
You have to consider what the RRP was.

Did you even buy any of these out of interest (although don't really care).

                    • @G-rig: Yes, I mentioned the fact that I bought it in my original comment. I also bought the F91W which I really love. If the Casio Duro also goes on sale for a good price that's all the watches I'll ever need, but that doesn't seem to go on sale often unfortunately.

                      • @s1Lence: Cool, all super affordable, the duro isn't much anyway I would have thought.

        • Just learnt that real F91Ws have a tiny 'U' below the word Resist, which is hard to copy.

Interesting that the one sold by Monster Trading Store doesn't, but returning it anyway. The F105W has it, and came in proper packaging.

          • @G-rig: Not all of them have the "u". My one from Amazon AU doesn't have it. Apparently the latest ones don't have the "u" and the website doesn't show it either.

            • @s1Lence: Yeah hard to know. I didn't look into it too hard but seems to be to do with manufacturing place. Have a look on Reddit, no clear answers.

The one I got from sold by Amazon is Made in Thailand and has the 'u' (f105w).

Either way you don't need to worry about getting it from either place if not concerned about it (and it's a very cheap watch so who cares. I think you'd know if it looked and felt off to be honest).

    • I bought the exact one from same seller and has compared to multiple real vs fake youtube videos - can confirm it is indeed genuine.

Things to look for - back of watch (Made in China and not Japan), code name on both bands (S-515N)

    Another option/deal, $32
CASIO F105W-1AUZ Unisex Black Digital Watch with Black Band https://amzn.asia/d/09FeSfVU

(Similar to F91W, $26, slightly bigger case much improved backlight (illuminator). Worth the extra $6.

  • What size band is this? I’m after a 22mm stainless band for my Edifice so wondering if this would fit?

    • +1

      Nah 18mm.

  • -3

The only problem with this watch is that you might literally drown in (profanity)

    • Your comment makes no sense at all.

  • -2

What are the reasons to not getting a smart band / smart watch these days?

Those smart watches costs a bit more like in ($20-80 range), you get the most accurate time, tracks your activity and more features.

    • +2

You get one if you just want something to tell you the date and time and not worry about all the other crap with your busy life already.
I have been getting along in life perfectly fine for 35 years without a fitness tracker / smart watch.

      Also:

You don't have to worry about charging it. and if the battery goes you can swap it easily where as you can't as easily with these smart watches.

They wear thinner and are much lighter.

You don't have to get into a habit of looking at your wrist all the time for calls or notifications.

And in addition these watches can last a life time.
My friend still has a Casio working from when got it as a kid 30 years ago.

    • +1

Agree with SpeedRunner, some people like a reliable no fuss time piece without intrusive alerts from the watch as well as their phone. You'd still end up pulling your phone out of your pocket anyway most times.

Those smart watches like Samsungs, apple etc are more tech toys, and you have to charge them every day as well as your phone, would get old quick.
Doesn't even measure your sleep if you're charging them overnight. At least get a decent Garmin model.

I do have a Fitbit charge (5 now 6) which stays on my other hand 24/7 basically. They are very minimal, 7 day battery and have turned off most of the alerts, paypass, gps - best of both worlds as I like wearing proper watches still.

Will never convince the nerds from the 'I got a phone so don't need a watch' camp though.

  • +1

Will this fit to 11 year old kids wrist?

    • +1

would do, not a bit watch & very easy to adjust the sliding clasp.

  • +2

    Got one thanks!

Xennial here feeling very happy about this purchase as my dad (who passed away 20 years ago) used to sell & repair Casio cash registers and would often get these sorts of watches as bonuses. Taking me right back to my childhood!

    • You should buy it then let us know if it's fake or not.

    • Ask the seller haha. The picture and reviews look fine.
I'd give it a go if you're wanting to save $15 or so, and just send back if no good.

      Returns. Accepted within 30 days
Return postage. Seller pays return postage
Return policy You must return items in their original packaging and in the same condition as when you received them. If yoU don't follow our item condition policy for returns, you may not receive a full refund.

      • I contacted seller and when I asked if these are genuine Casio watch, his reply is they are Unbranded.

        • Fk him obviously fake should report.

  • -1

I got the skmei from Ali for $12. I get heaps of compliments. Would recommend this deal (or the Skmei if you're a real tightass like me) for all your retro fits.

    • -1

Boo. Never buy a copy of such a cheap watch. Although they won't feel Premium so it may not matter

      • +1

Skmei are awesome, how dare you!!!

        • Link? Probably alright for a 5er..

Casio is affordable for everyone so there is no excuse to get a fake one (although this is OzBargain lol).

  • Available from Amazon AU itself for $34.66 (i.e. 66 cents more)
