253AAU756P

Last deal was 75% off All Plan Subscriptions for 5 Months, so it's an extra month this time. Only noticed it as I was looking around for invoicing software and just happened upon it, so it's not a lot of notice since it expires in a day.

Note also, Xero is upping their prices from July 1st.

Terms:
This offer is only available to organisations new to Xero that are based in AU. Using the promotional code 253AAU756P at the checkout. Offer available until 11:59pm AEST on 30th June 2024. Discount applies to base Starter, Standard, Premium and Ultimate plan subscriptions only. Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other plan offer and cannot be exchanged for any other Xero offer. At the end of the offer period, the plan will be charged at Xero’s standard rates.

Sucks how much it costs full paying customers, and of course we get zero benefits or incentives

Xero = best on top of a pile of crap

    • Makes me think they've never really had issues with retention, which really makes me worry for the state of it's competitors. Have you had any issues with the service? Figured I'd ask since I'm looking around anyway.

      • +4

        with retention,

Prob not… since the only other alternative in the same format is myob, and as a myob subscriber I can say it’s a POS

        • +2

Yep. I also tried QuickBooks, but the bank reconciliation feature is horribly designed compared to Xero, which I can say is probably one of the best parts of Xero.

          • @itsfree: Hi, I also considering MYOB. What are issues with it? I hates Xero due to it pricing plans force you to pay for more.

            • +1

@JenniferB: I personally haven't tried MYOB but my understanding is that they're basically a legacy desktop software company still trying to shift into the web app era.

              • +3

                @itsfree: Pretty much

MYOB keep jacking the price too and actually making the product WORSE.

2 UI overhauls over the last 24 months and imo went from bad… to worse, TWICE.

The app is shit - barebones doesn’t even start to describe. It’s as if it’s cobbled together by a one man team.

The whole cloud thing is so messy, had so many times where it could just glitch out with issues like huge delays between pressing send invoice and actually sending, items refusing to load (so you end up clicking send a few more times and spams your customer with like 5 invoice emails) - had a few times where it straight up refused to load a customer into the invoice even after trying multiple browsers and pc, had one time where I sent an invoice, and it somehow managed to send an invoice link to some random ndis provider in nsw… wonder if there is some invasion of privacy thing going on too.
Attach attachments in the invoice writing stage, add a custom note into the invoice write up memo email ,then go to send and it has a dialog again where it says add attachments, even though you already did it at the previous stage and it doesn’t show you what you had attached previously… so you go back and then go back to resend and it’s lost your custom memo ffs (happens in quote module too)

That’s just off the top of my head, there’s heaps more hit I cbf writing it all out- and myob DONT LISTEN. Used to give detailed bug issue and or suggestions but nothing happens so I don’t bother.

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Yep doesn't surprise me at all. I interviewed for a design position there. Absolute clusterf*** of a company.

So yeah. Xero really is in a prime monopoly position 🤣

                • @Jimothy Wongingtons: Thank you for your detailed response. Much appreciated. Seem like we have no other choices.

Not really any issues per se, but as an employer, there are really basic features missing - e.g.
        - new employee form – even a freemium service like Payroller has this! Adding a batch of new employees into Xero is such a complicated PITA – it takes me half the day to fix it all up even when using their ridiculous spreadsheet template
        - can't really add non-time units to timesheets like mileage

There are also just some really puzzling inconsistencies in their UI.

If you're a sole trader, it'd be perfectly fine and even maybe overkill.

All things considered, I suppose I am being a bit harsh, but I do feel like I am paying a lot for it, especially given how much I don't use, as well as their ridiculous and confusing plan changes forcing me to pay for additional functionality that I don't need.

The best features are definitely the bank feed import and reconciliation features – this saves me a heap of time. Their reporting tools are good too.

        • Thanks, I really appreciate the details. I think I'll give them a go for a few months, as at least the discount gives me the opportunity to test things without much monetary investment.

@scragly: Yeah it can't hurt. Another great thing is their customer service - it's very responsive and helpful

    • Xero being listed in stock exchange would not be best choice for price conscious small to medium businesses in long term book keeping

Beware that Xero is very aggressive in jacking up their prices, sometimes multiple times a year.

I'm on their premium 5 plan, started on $70/m in the second half of 2022, then it got increased to $76/m, then to $85/m, and from next month $90/m.

4 price increases in less than two years, yikes. Hate that Xero has a monopoly position as it's the only one that has a bunch of integrations I need.

    • Exactly

    • +2

After you use it you can't get away

  • -6

    Just use a spread-sheet

  • +3

Tested a bunch as well in the past, zoho books was the one I settled on, and not price driven, just works the way it suits me.
Only running one company file, invoicing, recurring invoices, bank feeds, upload/attach receipts etc.
I don't need too much in integrations, Xero seems to have that advantage between the bunch of common packages.

I consult, and simply refer clients back to the accountants to suggest what to use, as they tend to want what they also use the most, or it is easier for them to access clients' books.

Zoho invoice app for sole trader and Zoho books app for small to medium company is good enough with lots of free options too.

  • Are there ever any discount codes for existing customers? Haha

They just upped it to 90/mth grr
