  • Just wondering if I can buy this with my flybuys dollars?

    Edit: changed ai to I

  • +1

I assume vanilla visa gc wouldn't work for it as well?

    • +4

      It depends.

The terms of any gift card deals at Coles nowadays says:

Gift Cards can't be used to purchase other Gift Cards at Coles.

I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

Having said that, if you swipe a Vanilla Visa gift card on the EFTPOS terminal and trigger the PIN prompt screen, you will need to press Enter to go through the signature verification process. At Coles, that means you will trigger a prompt on the checkout, where the staff member needs to hand you a slip of paper for you to record your signature, then check that signature before deciding whether to accept or reject your card. The staff member is supposed to compare that signature with the signature on the back of the gift card (and/or the signature on any ID you may have on you), but there are a few potential problems:

      • Signature verification is something that nearly all Australian-issued cards officially removed support for in 2014, so there is a good chance that the staff member helping you has never been trained about the signature verification process.

      • If you have a Vanilla Visa gift card purchased from Woolworths, that does not have a signature panel on it, so the staff member has nothing to compare your signature with (besides any ID you may have on you).

      • If you have a Vanilla Visa gift card purchased from elsewhere (e.g. Coles), that has a signature panel on the back, so the staff member is supposed to compare your signature with the one on the back of the gift card (and/or any ID you may have on you).

      • The staff member is supposed to sight the payment card you are wanting to use when comparing signatures. If the staff member is definitely paying attention and notices you are trying to use a Vanilla Visa gift card as a payment method, they could choose to reject the gift card as a payment method. You could swap out that card for another one on you, but considering the first dot point, going through the signature verification process is in itself unusual.

You may find that the staff member you deal with does not really care and will accept your card with no fuss, or the staff member will care and reject the card, or it will be somewhere in-between. There is only one way to find out!

      • I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

So we could use Vanilla visa/mastercar to purchase most of other gc at Coles, like Ultimate or TCN?

      • I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

There is but not sure to what extent. I know you can’t pay with a gift card for another gift card. However Visa GC could be treated as Visa/Credit.

  • Only if the limit is 120,000 points instead of 50,000 points.

P.S. AVP demo can be booked at an Apple Store now.

    • +1

The 50,000 points limit is per day, so you should be good.

  • Hmmm, is it too early to stock up for iPhone 16?

  • +1

I have 4 coles insurances attached to my flybuys account also. Does it mean I get extra point per insurance per dollar or per earned point?

    • I guess not. No double dipping.

  • -5

Good timing, will need to pay the ATO with these ,

    • -1

Paying ATO with Apple gift card ??

      • Obviously a troll, or they really got scammed and are proud about it. 🤣

      • +1

It is just a joke from the past.

        • Blast from the past

  • Thanks OP.

  • Also saw 10% off restaurant choice gift card at Coles yesterday.

  • Given you can basically buy 4% Woolworth’s giftcards from anywhere, you’re being forced to spend their Everyday Rewards “currency” with no discount. So I more look at this like 6% off (10%-4%) because I’m losing the ability to use the 4% Woolworths egift card discount.

    No deal for me.

  • +1

Just want that 15% deal back :( wish i loaded up on $10k worth on that just for the Vision Pro + future purchases.

  • I saw at Coles today, Apple have 'Blank' Gift Cards $20-$500, which I assume you just tell the cashier the amount. I want to load up 5 cards @ $500 which would equate to 50,000 points. I only see the max card in the promo above at $200. Will the 20 x flybuys be given on $500 gift cards or do i need to buy $200 gift cards ? Thanks

    • +2

Yes, the deal works on the variable $20-500 Apple gift cards. You don't need to get the $200 Apple gift cards.

  • how to use this to get apple care please

    • +1

You don't. AppleCare can't be paid for with Apple gift cards on a monthly subscription.

    • +1

I am fairly sure the only way you can do this is to go to a physical Apple Store (with your device) and ask to purchase an AppleCare policy for it.

    • +1

I had to go to a physical store and use physical gift cards to pay the full amount (which afaik means gift cards can only be used to pay for the initial 2 year applecare that can be bought as 'lump sum', not a monthly sub). You can't load/redeem the card onto your account balance and then use the onlineaccount balance to pay.

      • Looks like I am going in store then Thanks guys much appreciated

        • +1

I just did it today and they were able to process the card and use it for AppleCare. Just make sure it isn’t loaded onto your account t

      • Sorry, are you saying these GCs can ONLY be used in-store and can't be used online for anything?!

I bought $200 x 5 today to be used to buy things online

        • +3

          No.

You can redeem Apple gift cards:

          • In-person at Apple Retail Stores (i.e. physical Apple Stores)
          • Online at Apple's various online stores (e.g. regular online store, Apple Education Store, AOC Education Store, Apple EPP portals)
          • On Apple Store app
          • Over-the-phone at 133 MAC (133 622)
          • Onto your Apple Account to top up its Associated Balance.

However, you can only redeem your Apple Account's Associated Balance:

          • Online at Apple's various online stores (e.g. regular online store, Apple Education Store, AOC Education Store, Apple EPP portals)
          • On the Apple Store app
          • Over-the-phone at 133 MAC (133 622)
          • For purchases and subscriptions from Apple Media Services (e.g. Apple Music, iTunes, App Store).

The only way you can purchase an AppleCare policy and use Apple gift cards as a payment method is to purchase an upfront AppleCare policy at an Apple Retail Store. You cannot use an Apple Account Associated Balance as a payment method in-person at an Apple Retail Store in Australia (and that is what @quick-dry was saying in their comment earlier).

          • If you instead sign up for an AppleCare subscription, Apple will not debit any money from your Apple Account Associated Balance to pay for this subscription, as AppleCare is not offered by Apple Media Services.

          • You cannot pay for an AppleCare policy at the time of purchasing an eligible Apple product (e.g. MacBook, iPhone, iPad).

          • The webpage that processes purchases of AppleCare on the Apple website is separate from Apple's Online Stores, and therefore does not accept Apple gift cards as a payment method.

  • Perfect. Many thanks for the detailed answer. I really appreciate it.

Btw do we know when the Flybuys points will be credited?

    • +2

Usually around 4:30pm Sydney / Melbourne on the day after you make a purchase, but it can very occasionally take 1-2 extra days.

  • bought a $30 gift card and got 2 months of apple tv+ with it, win.

  • It might be asked few times in this forum or earlier. Sorry about that guys.
Would like to know that in order to buy an iphone, do I need a physical apple GC to shop online or apple Instore? Can I use my balance in iTunes linked to my apple ID as well for the purchase or NOT?
    Thanks

    • +1

I haven't bought it myself, but from what I read,  If they are incorrect, please chime in.

      1. You can transfer your Apple GC balance to your Apple account (not your iTunes account) for a maximum of $4,999.  You can use your Apple account balance to buy physical products (online or at the Apple store).
      2. The iTunes balance can only be used to purchase non-physical Apple products.
      3. For Apple Care+, you will need the physical Apple GC and redeem it in person at the Apple store by bringing the eligible device(s) with you, as they will need to inspect your device(s) first.

I'm still giving it some more thought as the duty manager at my nearest Coles store refused to give a refund if the cards had been tampered with, even when I offered to pay first and do them in front of him following the purchase.  He said I needed to call Apple GC directly and deal with them.  Given the prevalent scams, I'm still on the edge and considering waiting until Apple GC has their scheme, though it's rare like last year's offer. Any thoughts about this?

      • Well the way I redeemed my GC was going to the top settings of my iPhone where is says Account etc and then purchases and then redeemed GC over there. Isn't that supposed to reflect to my iTunes balance as well? My sub for more iCloud date is deducted from the same account? Is there any other way to redeem GC balance only to apple account?
Pardon my lack of knowledge on this!
Regarding your other point, I bought 2 GC's and checked it while standing in the GC's section in the store and verify the code. Both the times it was matching so took it to the cash register and paid it. Didn't't has any issue redeeming it when I reached home.

Would be great if you can explain me how to redeem GC only to apple acc and not in iTunes.
        Cheers!

        • +2

That’s your Apple Account Balance which can be used to buy Apple products (not in-store, only online and over the phone). There’s no more “iTunes Balance”. Apple renamed it and/or merged them.

If you wanna buy Apple products in-store, just bring the actual Apple Gift Cards to an Apple Store. Don’t redeem them to your Apple Account Balance.

          • @dreamykitten: Thanks mate to clarify this. Got bit confused that to which balance redeemed by GC, apple account or iTunes. 😂
            Thanks again 👍

  • Has anybody got the Flybuys points yet?

    • I received it from the last promotion. Usually gets in the account within a day.

      • I purchased it yesterday morning. Will wait another day, otherwise will need to reach out to Flybuys CC

        • My bet is that if you check again around 4:30pm Sydney / Melbourne time this afternoon, you will see your points balance increased to reflect your purchase yesterday morning.

For instore purchases (or refunds) at Coles, Flybuys balances are only updated once a day around 4:30pm.

  • I have bought a gift card worth $500 yesterday and received only 500 points just now. Most probably need to contact support team

    • +1

Same here. Bought $1000 - got only 1000 points as of now.

Flybuys have been frustrating experience for me.

    • same here, bought the $20-500 cards for $1700, got 1700 points..

    • bought $30 and got 600 pts and 2 months of apple tv+

    • Same. Bought $800, got 800 points so far

      • same as others. got 20x points this afternoon

    • +1

      Points updated. Got 20x today.

  • Hi there,
I need to buy $3670 worth of gift card, does it mean I will received 3670 + 73400 points? Or just 73400 points?
What is the max amount per gift card? $500 or $1000?
Would I be able to redeem $3670 worth of gift card in Apple education store online for purchasing a laptop?
    Thank you.

    • +2

There is maximum of 50,000 points per day, so you shouldn't buy more than $2500 cards per day

Also, buy $500 ones - Apple allows 8 GCs per order, so for your case you can probably use 7 * $500 + 1 * $200

    • +1

You can add the cards to your apple account, up to $4999 OR as stated, you can pay with up to 8 gift cards + balance on credit card. if you dont have an apple account.
You would need 7 x $500 ( no $1000 cards) and you can buy a $170 card. Apple has a 'blank card' that be loaded with anything from $20-$500. So you use these cards for all your purchases.
I just loaded $2500 into my apple account today as I am doing a similar purchase. And as stated, dont purchase more than $2500 per day. So it will take you 2 days to get the required apple gift card credit.

PS: I have not read the $20-$500 Crad, so I am assuming you can do $170. Otherwise just use 7 x $500 , 1 x $100 and pay the balance with your credit card ….

      • This one is better. Ignore mine above

        • +1

Mate even your explanation is pretty simple and understandable 👍

    • +1

Thanks everyone. I got $500x7 and $170x1 gift card from Coles, all very straight forward, got the bonus points the next day. Bought the laptop in store with no problem.

  • Does anyone know if these cards need to be redeemed by a certain date?

I understand that once they are redeemed, they don't have an expiry date.

    • +1

The back of the Apple Gift Cards have the words "No expiry".

  • Any way to convert my Binge subscription to bill through Apple?

  • I’m looking to buy a MacBook - so is the idea that I convert the points to cash?

    • Convert points to credit to spend at Coles
