  • Just wondering if I can buy this with my flybuys dollars?

    Edit: changed ai to I

I assume vanilla visa gc wouldn't work for it as well?

      It depends.

The terms of any gift card deals at Coles nowadays says:

Gift Cards can't be used to purchase other Gift Cards at Coles.

I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

Having said that, if you swipe a Vanilla Visa gift card on the EFTPOS terminal and trigger the PIN prompt screen, you will need to press Enter to go through the signature verification process. At Coles, that means you will trigger a prompt on the checkout, where the staff member needs to hand you a slip of paper for you to record your signature, then check that signature before deciding whether to accept or reject your card. The staff member is supposed to compare that signature with the signature on the back of the gift card (and/or the signature on any ID you may have on you), but there are a few potential problems:

      • Signature verification is something that nearly all Australian-issued cards officially removed support for in 2014, so there is a good chance that the staff member helping you has never been trained about the signature verification process.

      • If you have a Vanilla Visa gift card purchased from Woolworths, that does not have a signature panel on it, so the staff member has nothing to compare your signature with (besides any ID you may have on you).

      • If you have a Vanilla Visa gift card purchased from elsewhere (e.g. Coles), that has a signature panel on the back, so the staff member is supposed to compare your signature with the one on the back of the gift card (and/or any ID you may have on you).

      • The staff member is supposed to sight the payment card you are wanting to use when comparing signatures. If the staff member is definitely paying attention and notices you are trying to use a Vanilla Visa gift card as a payment method, they could choose to reject the gift card as a payment method. You could swap out that card for another one on you, but considering the first dot point, going through the signature verification process is in itself unusual.

You may find that the staff member you deal with does not really care and will accept your card with no fuss, or the staff member will care and reject the card, or it will be somewhere in-between. There is only one way to find out!

      • I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

So we could use Vanilla visa/mastercar to purchase most of other gc at Coles, like Ultimate or TCN?

      • I do not think there is anything in Coles checkouts that automatically blocks Vanilla Visa gift cards if you are purchasing an Apple gift card.

There is but not sure to what extent. I know you can’t pay with a gift card for another gift card. However Visa GC could be treated as Visa/Credit.

  • Only if the limit is 120,000 points instead of 50,000 points.

P.S. AVP demo can be booked at an Apple Store now.

The 50,000 points limit is per day, so you should be good.

  • Hmmm, is it too early to stock up for iPhone 16?

I have 4 coles insurances attached to my flybuys account also. Does it mean I get extra point per insurance per dollar or per earned point?

    • I guess not. No double dipping.

Good timing, will need to pay the ATO with these ,

    • -1

Paying ATO with Apple gift card ??

      • Obviously a troll, or they really got scammed and are proud about it. 🤣

      • +1

It is just a joke from the past.

        • Blast from the past

  • Thanks OP.

  • Also saw 10% off restaurant choice gift card at Coles yesterday.

  • Given you can basically buy 4% Woolworth’s giftcards from anywhere, you’re being forced to spend their Everyday Rewards “currency” with no discount. So I more look at this like 6% off (10%-4%) because I’m losing the ability to use the 4% Woolworths egift card discount.

    No deal for me.

  • Just want that 15% deal back :( wish i loaded up on $10k worth on that just for the Vision Pro + future purchases.
