Intel Arc A750 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card A$293.91 Delivered @ PB Technologies, New Zealand

260

My RX570 died and needed a cheap replacement for work computer working with drawings and a bit of 3d work in animation.

From searching online seems very to be very positive in regards to improvements of drivers and support. Noticed there hasn't been any deals for intel arcs for a while.

Posted another deal for the a770 which I was considering as well.

Where's the deal? This card is worse than a 3060 (less memory).

Most reports I see is that the 3060 edges out the a750 for gaming, but this Intel card is better for CAD or 3D, and it’s $100 cheaper. The memory capacity might be less, but the increased memory bandwidth makes up for that.

Given the minimal performance differences, no clear winner can be declared between GeForce RTX 3060 and Arc A750. https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-RTX-3060-vs-Arc-A750

      • A750 power consumption is quite high as well.

  • +3

Why not a 6600 instead? Similar price and much more power efficient. Even just watching videos the A750 uses 40+W

    • +1

Power usage not a huge factor as I have plenty of solar on house and work during the day.

Also happy to support trying a relatively new GPU competitor in the market.

      Time will tell.

Power usage is important not because of power usage but the heat added to the other parts.. i'm an IT Admin in an Engineering company.. 24 years now… the PCs that last the longest with zero issues and have been rock solid stable are the ones that run cool/cold even. :) they either used a iGPU or a low end around 100w GPU.
(Not an issue if your plan is to replace your PC often though 2-3 years). Idle heat hot spots even around the PCIe slot can also cause long term issues. The thing Youtubers dont talk about is component lifespan because most gamers 99% of their viewers dont keep their PCs "without some upgrades" longer then 5 years

Ok I did wonder if higher power usage may have adverse effects on components. Thanks.

But for the most part the programs I use won't be be working the GPU hard. Son will play riders republic now and then (that's what killed the rx570).

Absolutely! Since building my first PC last year, I don't really have the funds to keep up with the latest GPU/CPU refreshes. So keeping everything nice and chill is my top priority.

My 10 year old MacBook is still holding up because I clean it regularly and monitor the temps. Only things I ever had to replace was the thermal paste, battery (spicy pillow) and a couple of worn key caps. Not too bad.

@SunsetCowboy: Conversely dumb luck is a thing. I’ve been running my cheaply built full tower desktop with GPU since I built it in 2015, I pretty much never turn it off and have a tendency to leave its scaling governor on high settings by mistake.

I searched up MSI motherboards for Linux usage recently and everyone raves about how unreliable they are, but my B85-43G is still going strong

Never had a part due, although I do dedust and bought a new heat sink because I couldn’t be bothered cleaning the old one.

Had a GTX 660 that’s been running since like ‘10 and now a Radeon RTX 560X or 650X

One use case for any Intel Arc series is the far better transcoding hardware. QuickSync is generally considered far above AMD’s VCN. The Arc series features AV1 encoding too, which the Rx 6000 series does not.

The Intel Arc also gets you access to the good version of XeSS upscaling, which uses the machine learning hardware. AMD’s cards don’t have any similar fixed function hardware and FSR2/3 is much worse as a result. Similarly, ray-tracing performance is much better on the Intel card.

We use AMD Graphics cards for AutoCAD, Revit, AGi32 and Navisworks… never had a single issue over the past 15 years..lately newer intel iGPUs have been great too. Nvidia have crashed heaps as the card gets older i think nvidia does something with the drivers for older hardware. Just like Apple they dont like you using their product for a long time. Ha My tin foil hat is on for that one :)

    • My GTX 670 hasn't missed a beat since 2012 as my primary card

  • +3

im pretty sure another good thing about the arc , is it has AV1 video Encoding

were the 3060 only has decoding, not encoding

  • With unRAID about to offer support for these transcoding beasts, demand is sure to rise.

    • +2

If you just need it for transcoding, you can get an A310 on Amazon for ~$170 and it is much less power hungry.

  • It got to $263 recently but I missed it

  • I’m hanging out for a cheaper a770, don’t love the 8 of VRAM on the 750. I’ve seen it at $450 but feel it could be a bit cheaper, particularly as their next gen is on the way
