I’m really over the smell of these.

    • +3

      indeed, very strong smell! .

thats why i only get the finish ultimate pro 0%

    • +3

You’re supposed to put them in your dishwasher I thought. Or have I been using these wrong??

      • They aren’t perfume for a date? I must be doing it wrong

    • +2

Yeah it even affects food I think. Has anyone got a solution? I've got heaps of these and other smelly ones left after a bulk buy..😩

    • It really is too much, especially with these stupid open kitchen living rooms nowaday.

  • +7

If you don’t have OnePass delivery is $12.95 but OnePass is currently $12 for a year (EOFY deal). Bargain.

  • +7

Don't know why they don't drop their price to the aldi ones which are just as good.

  • I'm almost out of dishwasher tablets and haven't bought any for ~2 years, what is the product of choice these days?

    • +10

Aldi Logix Platinum capsules are my favorite, successor of Aldi Logix Platinum tablets, which rated the best by Choice.

I would suggest to try powder for the true OzB value for money experience.

If you have some spare time, watch this video and you'll realise that are a few advantages to using powder (notably, ability to use pre-wash). Lots of frugal people champion that dishwasher tablets are somewhat of an overrated marketing tool and that at the core, most tablets are just powder that looks a bit sexier.

      • I’m sold! Going to try powder!

      • i was awaiting someone to post this, very edutainment!

        switched to just powder.

tried one load without anything, and heat the pressure cleaned everything pretty darn well anyway (wouldn't recommend it tho)

      • +2

        Pre wash powder gang.

      • I buy a big tub of powder (10Kg or 5Kg) it lasts for ages

        • +1

Where do you get this from?
I looked in Coles and on Amazon and couldn't find any.

        • What to know as well

      • This. I clicked this deal to try to figure out why I keep seeing deals for tablets on OzB, because powder just seems like way better value. I guess the markup on tablets means they can be heavily discounted, so they're low hanging fruit for OzB?

My Bosch has a 25min quick cycle, which NEVER cleans well, always have to choose 1.5hour+ cycle for a nice clean, however throwing some powder in first for pre-wash followed by main one in dispenser means fully clean dishes in 1/3 the time.

        • Thanks for the tip. Will try this.

      @Domingo

Before buying anymore pods give the cheapest powder you can find a go.

Bunnings sell 'Exonic' 1kg powder for $3.90
Aldi sell 'Aldi Logix' 1kg powder for $4.00
Coles sell 'Ultra conc' 1kg powder for $3.90
Woolworths sell 'Shine' 1kg powder for $3.90

Cost Analysis between Powder vs Tablet

Thanks for the pricing. I just went to weigh these dish washing tablets to work out the cost between powder vs tablets.
1x Finish standard tablet with red dot = 20grams
        1x Finish Ultimate Dishwasher All-in-1 tablet = 18grams

        1kg of powder = 1000 grams
        1kg of powder = 50 Finish standard tablets x 19c = $9.50
        1kg of powder = 55 Finish Ultimate Dishwasher All-in-1 tablets x 31c = $17.05

Buying powder is about 230% cheaper than ALDI/Finish standard tablets
Buying powder is about 426% cheaper than Finish Ultimate Dishwasher All-in-1 tablets

        If you wash your dishes once a day, that's 365 tablets/year @ 19c = $69.35 (Finish standard/Aldi)
        If you wash your dishes once a day, that's 365 tablets/year @ 31c = $113.15 (Finish Ultimate)
        Using powder, this will cost $29.20/year (20grams x 365 = 7.3kg x $4/kg)
NOTES: Tablets could be more concentrated. Doesn't factor in Rinse Aid cost which is included in the tablets.

        TLDR:
        Cheap Tablets = $69.35/year
        Expensive Tablets = $113.15/year
        Powder = $27.20/year
Won't break anyones bank account, but we're literally paying for the lazy tax.

        • Good cost analysis. There's no staged release with tablets though so that rinse aid line ain't really accurate.

    • I've got loads of tablets. The couple I live with stopped using the dishwasher because the husband only wants to put things in, not take things out, and the wife doesn't want to take his dishes out. So if I take my own dishes out and his dishes out, then it's like gridlock, the dishwasher just sits there full of dishes. So they handwash now because it's the only way to guarantee that he puts away his own dishes. Never mind how much extra water and energy it wastes, that's the furthest thing from their minds. It takes me a week or so to fill it by myself. Never mind that I was the only one who maintains the machine, scrubs the filter, refills the salt, etc., they still want me to put their dishes away for them. You can't talk to them about it because they just lie. People are the ruddy worst.

    Just get aldi ones

  • +1

Why would I buy these over Aldi for 19c? SOMEBODY UPSELL ME THANK YOU!

    • +3

      Aldi
      Capsules 46 pack = $11.99 = 0.26c each
      Tablet 45 pack = $6.29 = 0.14c each

      • +3

Aldi powder even cheaper than their tablets. I weighed a packet of their tablets, it weighs less than the 1kg bottle of powder, costs more. Powder seems to work just as well

        • Done!

        • +2

@horacio coming in with the science, nice one!

    • +1

Aldi ones don't work well in my dishwasher, tried all the various ones. Finish and Fairy tablets seem to give us better results so we've stuck with those.

      • Throw the aldi one on the bottom of the dishwasher instead of in the drawer.

        • Yeh I do that anyway with all of these as I run a 42min cycle… 🙂

  • +16

    Powder. Use powder.

Ive been alternating between the woolworths "shine" tablets, and the bunnings cheapies. Both seem to work well.

But i also think it is dependent on the dishwasher.

I recently replaced my kogan dishwasher (got it brand new for free - died after 5 years. It was repairable (discovered the issue after stripping it for parts) with a euromaid. The new machine cleans so much better.

Or maybe it cleans normally and the kogan dishwasher just sucked.

    .31c is different from 31c

For those people who think I am wrong, go watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN9LZ3ojnxY

    100 millicent in .1 cent
    1,000 millicent in 1 cent
100,000 millicent in 100 cent or 1 dollar
    3,720,000 millicent in 37.20 dollars

if my calculation is right, $37.20 based on .31c per tablet, will give you 11,625 tablets.

I'm fun at parties, I swear

    • We would get along well

    • I think it is a spoken shortening vs written notation thing with putting the dollar unit on left as this error only comes up with money and not other units.

If it was $1.31, people say one dollar thirty one cents, $1.31c, which is still wrong but the decimal is more like a break because going lower than 1 cent almost never comes up in daily use. But no one writes .25cm when 1.25m gets a meter dropped.

    • Haha! I don't even notice these errors anymore :)

    • Lol that video is funny. But like others pointed out, it's just a way of writing it and interpretation. Cents are always writtent in many different ways, whether it's 31c or .31c - it's just general knowledge that they both have the same intentions when your shopping.

Those in the apple isle should go shiploads as you can get finish tablets quantum lemon x 72 for 23.99 … works out at ~29.98c. everyday price afaik

Or just get the finish classic for finish classic 110pk dishwasher tablets lemon works out at ~19.08c per wash. Is the quantum lemon 50% better? I have my doubts but we're running low so I will get some today and see if there is a huge difference.

  • +1

I waited and waited and waited and finally bought some from Amazon three days ago. I know I shouldn't have checked Ozbargain. I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this but then I will have enough dishwashing tablets to last an apocalypse

    • U can return to Amazon ?

  • I've got the white pack of these, ultimate all in 1 that I found at Woolies on clearance one day for about the same price as generic tabs.

    Haven't noticed a huge difference.

The Finish classic is the main one I'd steer away from - found it leaves a residue/film on plates/cutlery and cloudy glassware (but for those who don't mind these $13 for 110 is cheap).

  • +1

A few people have mentioned powder already, but I thought if you were interested in an environmentally friendly option, which inevitably costs more, even the Ecostore Dishwasher Powder that you can get from Woolies is works out to be 21.5c a wash.

    • This. Used to be able to get bottles for $9/kg or less via Amazon but those deals are hard to come by now.
Still is wild to me that ecostore pumps out these plastic 1kg bottles and 5kg tubs but no 2kg cardboard box version which would reduce their carbon emissions far more than either of their current options.

  • +3

Switched away from tablets to powder and rinse aid a few months back.

Never going back, I get better results than any of the multitude of tablets I've tried over the years. If you've never tried it, do it.

    • Which powder U using?

      • Finish Concentrate Powder Classic 1kg and the Finish rinse aid, both off Amazon. Didn't really look at reviews or anything just got these cause they were easy to get.

The rinse aid is really important apparently the tablets have it in the red circle but this liquid stuff works way better. Honestly can't believe how clean and dry the dishes are using this separate stuff.

  • Reject shop 110 Finish tabs for $19 (~17c each) is still my go to.

    • Better than ALDIs for 14c?

      • Which one? I'll have to test it out.

    • $13 here if you can find stock.

Various chemists that stock might price match.

  • Curious question, we use a rinse aid and a capsule to get better results than just a capsule, am I doing something wrong here?

    • +1

No, regardless of what the manufacturer puts in their 'tablets' you should ideally still use the rinse aid dispenser in your dishwasher to ensure it is released at the right time.

Rinse aid is pretty simple stuff, is relatively cheap and lasts for quite a while.

      $1.50 for 250mL - that's 83 wash cycles on my dishwasher's default setting of 3mL per cycle.
