Combined Hospital & Extras Cover: 6 Weeks Free after First Month + 2- & 6-Months Extras Waiting Waived @ Frank Health Insurance

250

This is the type of health insurance deal I like.
One month paid and 6 weeks free and claim optical /dental immediately and churn. For my cover I usually choose (Bronze Plus and highest extras), it's about $300 saving for me with the free 6 weeks.

For new members joining on combined hospital and extras cover, paying by direct debit. Must not have been a Frank member in the last 12 months. Must pay first month’s premium to receive initial 6 weeks free. Must maintain combined hospital and extras cover continuously and be financial for 12 months from the cover start date to be eligible to receive further 6 weeks free. No other discount will be applied in second year of membership. Other waits (including hospital waits), annual limits and sub limits apply. Extras claims made with a previous fund count towards annual limits. Offer only available via Frank health insurance website or phone. Not available with any other offer. Ends 15 July 2024.

Health insurance is a rip off. The ER will fix you free if you get injured.

Somehow I doubt going to the American Emergency Room will be either free or practical. The Australian Emergency Department on the other hand…

when do limits reset for this one

    • Your limits will reset on 1 January each year.

  • I churn cc's.. But never private health.

I have some questions I hope someone can help me with..

    1. So by paying a month up front, I'll effectively be with these guys for 10 weeks?

    2. I can use the optical, go for weekly remedial massages/acupuncture, get a new retainer, etc. to the maximum in that period?

    3. I can then cancel without consequences?

    Thank you in advance

    • Yes in theory

      • Also asking as a potential first time private health churner - When your new insurer requests a certificate of continuity from your previous insurer won't they see what allowances have been used up and the new insurer will then adjust your allowances accordingly?

That is exactly what happens. As part of the transfer certificate, old fund reports to the new fund what usage amount has been. This amount may reduce the amount available as part of your extras.

  • Already done the Medibank offer? While it requires 12 more paid days, there is the $100 cashback from June 30, plus points and 2/6 month waiver.

    • I think it's only if you were member on 30/06/24 (snapshot date)?
"Cash back – Eligible Medibank members* holding a hospital and/or extras policy on 30 June 2024 will be eligible for the cash back. Members will receive their cash back by the end of September 2024."
I think, Medibank is still better deal considering that their bonus points can be used to pay for another month premium…

  • No gold cover? Not in the exclusions but when you click through here it downgrades to Silver+

  • There are some vague/weird restrictions:

"A range of dental procedures when provided on the same day. For example if your bill says you had a tooth filled and removed on the same day, we won’t pay for the filling"
"If the person who treated you is a family member you can't claim for that treatment. We also won’t pay if you are treated by your business partner, or the business partner of a family member. If you’re unsure who qualifies as ‘family’ check with us"
"You can only one consultation/treatment per provider per day"
"There’s a limit to the number of times you can have certain dental procedures. If you exceed those limits we won’t pay."
