    • They were quick. Must've been hit with a couple of pricebeats

      • Was the same price last night. Now debating if i have any need for one as my phone has DEX and i prefer that.

  • If the price of S9 Ultra was at this price earlier, I would jump on. Bought the iPad Air 13 from JB with the mobile broadband plan:

It's an excellent tablet. I have the 5g version and use it for personal use as well as work. Dex has gotten better as well as Microsoft 365 so I use it whenever I have to travel into the office to work

    • +1

Yeah, got it for my son as he prefers it for school over his laptop. MS 365 is really good now but mainly its for the note taking in physics and maths.

  • Is S10 coming out soon ? Can I use this to replace the laptop ?

    • +3

      Depends on your usage.

I personally don't think any tablets could replace laptops at this stage. Stuff like file management, full Microsoft suite and other desktop applications work better on laptops/desktops. I think using Dex is slightly better experience.

But for web browsing, mobile games and viewing content I think tablets can handle it.

If you have a compatible laptop you can actually use some models of the Samsung tablets as a second screen. It's not as seamless as a dedicated second screen plugged into your laptop, but it does work.

      • I see, thanks, tablet is good for entertainment, not for work. Thanks for clarifying, probably need to wait and see

    • I don't think S10 is gonna bring anything new that the S8/9 couldnt do, any updates to dex will happen on all of their tablets.

What do you use a laptop for? They're perfectly fine for office/Web stuff, Ms has most of their office stuff on Android. Dex plays well with a kb/mouse and split screening.

I actually swapped my laptop for the S8U back when we were using remote desktop for work, battery lasted well over 8hrs screen on time.

      • Thanks, I do have Mac with me at home, feel like if tablet can replace it, that would be awesome , and what do you think compared to surface pro series ? As both are very portable price similar I think

        • It all goes back to what apps/programs you need. If you're just sticking to Web and Microsoft office then yes you can replace a laptop with this. You need to buy the keyboard cover though which I think is about $250.

Only reason I would get the surface is if you need specific apps that only run on x86. Personally, I've had 3 surfaces and they've all died just outside the warranty period due to hardware issues, I'd never buy one again.

    • Tab S10 probably not until January.

  • JB HiFi claim in their advert that this was previously at $1999 and the 512GB version was $1688 previously.

I cannot confirm this but I tend to think that the 256Gb Wifi would not have been more than the 512GB previously?

If this is the case then their advertising is misleading as the 256Gb WiFI was not advertised at $1999 prior to the sale? There is a law against this ..

AND yes the S10 Ultra has been leaked and so its release is imminent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLM-Y4X10bM

  • I have the Tab S7+ and they only offer $330 for trade-in. If there were any trade-in bonuses, I would have bitten this

    • 300$ still good price , for my tabs8+ they're offering me only 400$ and its still in very good condition.

  • Great prices. Pre-ordered it with the book keyboard cover and have zero regrets, amazing device with no compromises.

  • S10 being announced on the 10th alongside the new flippers. I don't think you'll be upset with the 9 though, especially if the price is right…

    • +1

Yep they have really changed much so far. I had the S8 Ultra and only upgraded to the S9 Ultra because of discounted pricing and salary sacrifice. I recycled my S8 Ultra case with a tiny modification with a knife to enlargen the camera hole.

      • Nice. Accessories between such similar version devices seem to have those arbitrary changes just to make one spend more.

    • I don't think that's right - usually on a 1.5 yr cycle

Suggests Tab S10 series will be part of Unpacked on July 10. It's also on the "10th". Speculation, but not without some evidence.

        • Interesting! I still reckon SamMobile is on the money, but great if they launch earlier:

          https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsungs-next-flagship-tablet…

What I really want is Samsung to launch an xreal competitor but sadly no leaks suggest that's happening :)

@UnrealMacaw: Agreed. I have some Nxtwear, then moved to a Pixel - which up until like a couple weeks ago, didn't support them 🤬 I haven't tried them since the latest update that apparently enabled it. Cool tech though, and if Samsung jumps on the bandwagon I'd say we'll start seeing some genuine advances.

  • Worth upgrading from s8?

    • +1

Nope unless you have tax incentives to minimise or avoid losses

      • roger will stick it out with the S8

  • +1

Bought the s9 ultra (256gb wifi) last week. Added it to Samsung Care+ and it came up as S9 Ultra 5g 1TB. Ordered a swap and only option to check was Ultra 5g 1TB. So it is potentially a cheaper upgrade path.

    • Lol nice find!!!!

    • From the standard samsung website?

  • been on the fence thinking either wait for the S10U or jump on the S9U especially with the big drop in price recently…

  • Would the s9 be an upgrade from Surface Pro 3?
I find the surface frustratingly slow with only 4gb Ram. Mostly use for entertainment, web surfing and occasional Google sheets for budgeting or itinerary. Wondering if I need another surface or whether tablet would be good enough

    • +1

I have the S9 Ultra and also a Surface Pro 3. The S9 Ultra is leaps ahead of the Surface. Unfortunately I don't think the Surface Pro ever really performed that well to begin with. I transitioned onto a new Surface book and it was terrible to use despite being the latest specs at the time. Thermal throttling just using the laptop for work.

      • Thank you! Very helpful

  • can anyone share how people use a 5g tablet when we could hotspot from the phone? trying to decide it it is needed. thanks

    • It's the convenience of not having to manually switch on the hotspot or drain the battery. Though Samsung devices can auto enable hotspots I believe. If the price difference is significant then save some money and go wifi. It'll also save on having to buy a separate data SIM. My work pays for my data SIM so I went 5g.

    • +1

I contemplated on this too but ended up with just the WIFI model. It's easy enough to just turn on hotspot from my phone and the tablet connects automatically. Doesn't really drain my battery as far as I can tell (using Tab S9 Ultra)

    • +3

Google is releasing instant hotspot for all android devices except Samung (Samsung have auto hotspot). If you have a samsung phone then you dont need a 5G enabled tablet. Both my kids tablets are an Samsung Tablet A8. As long as my phone is in proximity they can connect via the Auto Hotspot on their tablets. I don't have to enable hotspot from myphone.

    • Especially when you don't even need to turn on a hotspot and can share internet via bluetooth.

  • +1

Great price for the Tab S9 series! It can also double as a second screen if using a laptop for those interested. I swapped out my base S9 for the Ultra version.
If you have the budget for it, get the book keyboard cover as this helps make it a near-laptop replacement

  • So tab S9, 9+, ultra, the difference is the screen size, then rest is same ?

    • Yeah. Screen size and battery size

  • I got a s9 ultra 256g wifi for 800+ when I traded in my Galaxy watch on the Samsung website.

    • That's a good deal

      • Yes. I also used a 20% off voucher from Samsung. 5% SAMSUNG credits + cashreward. Finally, I got it at around $820.

        • Where did the 20% off voucher come from Michael? How did you obtain that?

          • @BargainBenno: Samsung sent the voucher to my mailbox. I confirmed that not everyone got the voucher on that day.
