HP N40L Microserver for less than $200?

Like previous deals in past i.e shoppingsquare $199 with HDD?
I am after a HP N40L microserver.

Looks like all the prices around the interwebs range from $237-$300+ for the microserver alone.

  • I'm in the same boat and missed out on the previous deal for a N40L with 250gig HD for $199…

I've got to buy a handful of other items as well, so if a deal comes up for this price they'll also get a few more hundred $$ from me !!!

  • I would recommend to build a computer, get a sandy bridge celeron, 8-16 gigs of ram, case. Will be around the same price as a N40L but much better.

Hi I got both a "Celeron" desktop and N40L from the recent deals going on here.

Depending on what you are looking at, what are your needs and wants.. both will do the Job well.

The Celeron is running much faster but I am now using the N40L as my normal day to day computer, one thing i like on the N40L is the HDD rack, accessing the hdd is so much easier on the N40L.

    Other benefits of N40L
    lower power consumption (hopefully)
    Quieter

    • i think the other good thing about the N40 is size… i have three of them stacked up and it takes the same amount of room as a larger desktop case

to build an ITX cube of the same quality and spec as the N40 would cost a lot more than $200

      ITX parts arent that cheap

  • Very upsetting I only recently (days ago) realised how much a device like this would suit my needs (High density DNLA server/external storage for notebooks) only to find that they can no longer be had for the $200 mark. How often were they discounted or was it a once off thing? Are we likely to see these prices back in anyones best guesses?

  • For those that are interested, there's an ebay seller seling these (250gig HDD model) for $200 plus $20 delivery at the moment, not sure how many he has. I was lucky enough to grab the first one he was offering and got it at a bargin price :)

    • Could you possibly provide a link. I can't seem to find it

      • Damn they sold quick, I just checked and the seller hasn't got any listings up anymore so I'm guessing that he sold them all already… For what it's worth, I bought mine from them (the 250gig HDD, 2gig ram model) for $160 + $20 postage :)

It arrived yesterday, 100% brand new, sealed box and works perfectly.

Keep an eye out for them cause they go quick at these prices.

  • the N40 is the best example of 'you snooze, you lose'

they're on sale occasionally… the distributors (eg. ingram, synnex etc.) would sell them at a discount and then the shop would pass on this saving - its completely random

watch the front page of ozbargain

it may never happen again this year, it may, it may not

Looks like you might be in luck - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86383

$219 is not a bad price (trying to resist buying one myself)

    • hey don't resist. go for it!

I got once recently and very happy with it. :)

    • Thanks for the heads up, I seemed to have missed it when it went up. I have ordered one now. Now I just need to source some drives for it :D

  • Could I get an opinion on an ebay purchase of one of these that went a bit wrong? I want to know what is fair to get refunded.

Won this (described as brand new, just unpacked N40L, 2 * 500Gb, 4Gb, SBS Essentials 2011) for $293.95 delivered.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=19…

Got here packed in a box three times it's size with no padding so it had slid around and the rear expansion ports bit had been bashed in. The little catch for those expansion cards had been forced into the casing so I had to bend it to get it out.
Bottom plate had a bit cracked off.
    No keys for the door.

Lucky I have one here and that key works for it.

    Inside:
    Just 1 * 250 Gb drive (not 2 * 500)
No torx tool in the door.
MiniSAS cable connector had been damaged and just sits in, doesn't click in.

Took me about an hour to sort out the damage.

Seller has offered $50 or I can return it (no doubt I pay return post). 2 * 500Gb drives is $120 for a start.

Now I think if this item had been described honestly he'd have been lucky to get a bid, maybe $150, at the most $200.

    • it's a refurbished (so cant really expect anything like brand new)

as for the hdd, you should get 2 x 500g as promised, so it's far to return it and get a refund.

      • He hadn't even started it to check out the specs. I still want it (it goes) but what's a fair amount to expect for refund? He's offered $50. I said $150 and that's the price he pays for sloppy listing and shipping. Seen the 4 into 1 cable for over $100 (it's a custom item).

        • it's better to return it. get your $$$ back minus the shipping and shop around..

i wont bother with replacing anything in there..

if you want to keep it, check the prices of the parts you are missing and add up the total to get your refund $$

  • Also found there is a new faster version N54L. The same but 2.2Ghz.

    • that's good news! hope the N40L will get a further price drop! I am looking for a 2nd N40L..

but i will be happy to get the new N54L if the price is right :)
