Smoke Smell from Catch's Store Phillips Switch Powerboard

Anyone remember this deal? Catchof the day had a sale on powerboards with individual switches Phillips Brand. Real Dodgy..

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/257295

I JUst unpacked a new one from the box and.. there is a detectable smoke smell.. still going (the smell)

I'm still using a different one but it make noise (fizzing) when one outlet is used… also Phillips brand.. same product..

Any alternative to long cable powerboards with switches (individual)??

The one that's making sounds only from one outlet is unusual. Try the powerboards in a different outlet…preferably one on a different breaker. Also, breakers can fail to trip even if there's a problem so it's probably a good idea to have an electrician do an inspection.

  • Using a new powerboad from 2016 ?

I had it in storage for years but new from box.

      • Did it get moist?
Some plastic used supposed to be flame retardant and may react with packaging making a potent horrible smell.

          i.d.k. i chucked it now.

  • Cheap powerboards tend to have less metal inside, and because of that, the contacts are less springy and don't make great contact with power plug pins. That's most likely what is making your "fizzing" sound. Best advice? Throw the power board away before it burns your house down.

Ah, I see in another comment that you've already chucked it. Good choice.

  • Wow back in the day when referral can be freely posted in the description!
