So does the SIM need to be delivered and activated by the 30th June to get the Cashback? And what about the Optus plan, will this still be 2060GB over the 12 months I I activate on July 4. And will this SIM give me 5G Optus (even though there are very few towers in Adelaide with it!)

    • Also wanting to know this. My current Pre Paid SIM expires August 25, would love to buy this and activiate a few days beforehand, providing I still receive the cashback.

      • Plans may no longer be available or may have changed if you do not activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase.

So final cost $120 for a 12 month sim with 260gb? Equates to $10 a month for ~21gb a month with rollover. That seems good?

    • +4

This all assumes there's no issues with the cashback…

      • +2

They denied large cashbacks that had been awaiting payouts (ie tracked) for me, then said 'no can do' when I enquired when they were well past payout date. I went from using them all the time to never-again.

i have no trust in cashrewards anymore.

        • You mean tracked, pending then not approved?

My NordVPN cashback from Cashrewards has been approved ($124.73). Transaction 14 April, approved 20 June. Ready for withdrawal.

I am waiting for PureVPN (tracked and pending for approval) with estimated approval 1 Sept.

      • No issues with tracking. I just purchased this Optus $220 with $100 cashback. Already got email tracked from Cashrewards.

I am waiting for other withdrawal process from NordVPN and Amaysim cashback from Cashrewards.

    • Be ready to chase Cashrewards though

    • similar to amaysim which ended last week, but their roaming is much cheaper / better value than optus'

  • Capped speed but 150mbps ain't paid

    No international call 🤕

We seriously need 4th estate carrier

      • +1

We seriously need 4th estate carrier

We had one, but they merged with Vodafone. TPG were rolling out their own network, then they merged with voda

      • It makes no sense to have 4 if the intent is to cover Australia

    • +1

Optus actually work better where i am, metro sydney. They have more 5G spectrum compared to the other two, and are getting access to 25mhz of paired low band spectrum soon

      • I live in Sydney CBD. Near Town Hall, near Central station and even USyd, Vodafone 5G speedtests were around 270/280 Mbps. But with Amaysim 5G (Optus network) today was around 170 Mbps near Central station and USyd.

I wonder if there are differences between different phone brands, maybe the phone antenna? I use OnePlus Nord CE3 5G Lite (cheap under $450 I bought). Someone in ozb previously mentioned his flagship Samsung phone (much more expensive) got very slow speed with Vodafone in the City, lol.

        • That was me, s23 ultra. Maybe your phone is using 5G NSA instead of the 5G SA network. Had similar experience on iphone 14 too

          • @Quarter Pounder: The setting in my phone is NSA or NSA + SA (I set this). NSA is 5G on top of 4G network, while SA is true 5G. No setting for SA only in my phone.

            • @neoleo: I know, my phone was using the default 5G SA network setting. no option to change on s23 ultra

              • @Quarter Pounder: Maybe change to 4G ? If not in mobile network setting, maybe in Developer Options? Turn off 5G and check if the speed is better on 4G …

Longer battery life with 4G only if compared with 5G anyway. Hi-res music streaming is still enough with 4G. 5G is better for lower latency gaming for example, not only download. Maybe better set to 4G only if not downloading or other faster needs.

                • @neoleo:

                  Developer Options

No option there either. I am quite happy on the optus network currently

  • Please be noted: new sign up only.

This deal gets worst the longer you stay with Optus. Seem to be encouraging people to leave after 3 years

  • Can you get subhub Optus Sport for $7 with this one?

    • +1

Optus sport is $12 for prepaid customers

  • Interesting $120 for 260. Probably still would choose the Vodafone 300 for $150 as hassle free or Kogan 500gb for 150

    • +4

Vodafone 300 for $150 (could be $125) is shit. Their signal is terrible. Using that to post this comment.

      • Obviously it depends on your location, and therefore coverage.

    • In my experience, Kogan/Vodafone quality has severely degraded over the last couple of years. And to make things even worse Kogan changed/degraded their voicemail system.
      I won't use them again.

  • +1

I'm in the process of canceling all my Optus services, nbn done, two sim plans left to go. Considering the recent Boost deal.
Optus kept putting up their prices in particular for nbn the way they do it was weird. Nbn co put up the price for lower speed tiers and dropped it for higher speed tiers. The way optus does it is they put you on low speed tiers and sell the higher speed tiers as speed packs so despite I was on 250/25 they increased it by $5 p.m whilst it should have been reduced by $5 p.m. sim only plans going up by $5 p.m too.

  • You couldn’t pay me. I had issues during the port which required a technician to resolve - however because I was at the whim of the sales team I couldn’t get past the relentless push that I had bought the wrong product and I needed to go into a plan.

  • Not really that good. Kogan still has their 50% off EOFY sale which is only $135 for 300GB or $150 for 500GB for 365 days. And if you subscribe to FIRST (14 days free) you get $20 Kogan credit as well.

Rather get this one than risk getting an unsuccessful cashback from Cashrewards. Although I must admit, I am not sure how good the coverage is and if they offer data banking they don't, and if they also have 5G seems like they only have 4G. Couldn't find those info from their website.

    • +2

      vodafone though

      • +1

They say they are on the TPG network, which I guess still is Vodafone at the end of the day

    • In my experience, Kogan quality has severely degraded over the last couple of years. And to make things even worse Kogan changed/degraded their voicemail system.
I won't use them again at any price.

      • Care to elaborate on your experience further?

I'm considering them as i've just moved away from Felix cause I got NBN at home, then went Amaysim (for basically free with the $24 cashback) and i'm now considering to move towards Kogan.

  • Good luck getting any cashback from Cashrewards. Wait with activation if not honoured and get refund from Optus.

    • Are you saying you could wait a month or two before activating to ensure you get the cashback? And only then activating?

      • In my case Cashrewards refused to honour, so I got a refund from Optus.

        • How simple was the refund process?

          • @TomGum: Just a phone call, and was refund in 4-5 days.

  • Thanks! I've ordered and Cashrewards has tracked so fingers crossed!

  • Boost is the secret my energy!

  • Literally just got this yesterday…. urgh

  • Can you port an existing number from a non-Optus provider?

    • +1

      yes of course

  • +1

It's a good deal in theory but it's so risky as to whether you'll actually get the cashback.

  • +1

    Optus no way

  • can you buy these with out giving your personal details over to optus? and pay with cash notes? So they don't have any records of you details at all or ever.

    • Unfortunately not, it’s regulated by ACMA and it’s compulsory for all telco companies for a drivers license check
      https://www.acma.gov.au/acmas-rules-id-checks-prepaid-mobile…

      • o I just realized there is a way, ebay, facebook marketplace, and gumtree.

        • That’s to buy the SIM. You’d still need to provide your drivers license detail to activate the SIM card

          • +2

@BargainsGrabber: nope you can peoples identities online thanks to companies like optus, so if I wanted to I wouldn't need to give my details at all.

  • Would this qualify for a cheaper 'Optus Sports' subscription?

If so, its a great deal!

  • Optus no longer offers discounted hoyts tickets 😔

  • How long normally does it take to show up on Cashrewards, Optus showing in click history but no money showing up on reward. Purchased a sim yesterday. Anyone has an idea?

    • +1

I ordered this morning. Email from Optus at 8:09am, email from CR at 8:17am, estimated approval 24/10/24 (~120 days).

I'd give it a few days but you may have to chase up CR by the sounds of it.

      • Just requested for refund since the confirmation email for cashback should have shown up by now but it didn't

-International Calls: International calls not included.
Maybe a deal breaker for some folks. That’s me.

ATM 12 month pre-paid plan choice is Amaysim & Coles mobile deal going. Those two are decent deals. Catch connect mobile had a deal going on a few weeks back. That one was also vfm.

Wow $100 cashback from Cashrewards… do they pay out successfully? Anyone had experience with them paying out more than $50.

    • When comparing this to Boost you also lose out on the wifi calling overseas.

    • I am waiting for my withdrawal process of $150.38 from Cashrewards. Combination of Amaysim and NordVPN cashback. Previous withdrawals no problem so far.

Cashrewards company is under ANZ bank.

  • Does this plan support transform to eSIM after physical SIM is activated?

  • Is there any well priced prepaid apart from Boost Mobile that offers 5G over 12 months?

    • Vodafone 5G for 12 months is $149 sold by Officeworks

  • I just purchased this Optus $220 for 1 year with $100 cashback. I always use Chrome mobile browser (no add-ons) from my phone to login Cashrewards first, then continue with the purchase.

Already got email tracked from Cashrewards 😄. Never fail for any cashback transactions through Chrome mobile browser. Of course always turn off adblocker app before opening the website.
