Some good old discussions here in old post. Thanks a lot to all there who helped with their useful comments and discussions.

Giithub link for commands thanks to that github user

Disclaimer:- Buy at your own risk, you may receive one with with a esim or Physical sim. Last physical sim report
Also there are different ASINs of this GPS traccar, they can be different in itself, this ASIN is most likely of all the 3 or 4 ASINs on amazon to be physical sim one.

the device is very useful if you have it using with your own server, and own sim card plan (as then you dont need to pay extra subscription costs). If you by accident receive a esim tracker instead. I am sorry It wont be that much better than physical sim model option (which if done right would hardly cost like $4.79 device + a cheap PAY AS YOU GO PLAN ~ $10 ish/year + a cheap/free TRACCAR server ~ $0 - $50/ year. So all up $15-$75 ish cost in a year if you get the physical sim version).

Some notable commands that you would probably need/want (copy of my old comment) to send to your sim card in GPS traccar (if it is a physical sim version one)

HASHTAGSERVER (#SERVER)

Reply will be WayWanTech's own server - you probably want to change that

LOCKIP,WWDSS20,UNLOCK#

unlocks your server lock from waywantech to another server, reply should be UNLOCKIP_OK

SERVER,0YOURTRACCAROROTHERGPSTRACKERIPADDRESSHERE,PORTNUMBER,0#

reply will be SERVER_OK (meaning server changed successfully and working fine), to double check run #SERVER again, port number is 5023 for traccar

IMEI#

Gets your device IMEI in reply IMEI:IMEINUMBERHERE

APN#

reply by default will be like Currently in use APN:linksnet…- You probably want to change it to telstra/optus/vodafone's APN, to change use below

APN,UNLOCK#

checks if apn is locked or unlocked, by default should be APN IS LOCKED! to unlock send below

LOCKAPN,WWDSS20,UNLOCK#

this should allow you to unlock apn changing (you can to specify own APN depending on your simcard's network provider (In Australia there's only 3 network providers which are listed below with their own APN settings) and reply with UNLOCKAPN_OK

For telstra (boost, etc.) - https://www.telstra.com.au/business-enterprise/support/chang…

APN,telstra.wap#

For optus (amaysim etc.) - https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=1378

APN,yesinternet#

For Vodafone(kogan etc.) - https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/device/apn-settings

APN,live.vodafone.com#

reply should be APN_OK, The terminal will restart after 30 seconds! If you unsure what your APN should be then insert your sim to a 4G or 5G phone, and check its network settings to what it changes the default apn to, that should be your APN

GMT,E,0,0#

sets your traccar's time to be at GMT time. (traccar needs GPS traccars to send time as GMT time for correct time display based on traccar server settings). if you need GPS tracker to send e.g. Sydney time then you could use GMT,E,10,30#

  • Can you only use the coupon once?

    • i just bought 2 and coupon was applied to both

      • Let us know please if they are physical or esim :)

        • +1

          sure

        • UPD: physical sims

    • Can only be used for 1 transaction, but you can buy multiple in a single transaction and get the discount on all.

  • how long does the 6000mAh battery last for?

    • @lachhelix how long did you get?

    • +1

Mine last almost 3 weeks. If lot of small drives just over 2 weeks.

    • +1

Yea about 2.5 - 4 weeks ish roughly.

But I leave mine plugged into the car connected all the time so everytime car is turned on, device gets charged that time until car is turned off.

  • Think I'm going to get some more as spare batteries for my physical SIM ones, thanks OP :)

    • +1

Hmm other esim one have been cheaper before may be 2.80 ish at times if you only need battery.

Otherwise this should be better as it hopefully should be physical Sim one (then again I could be wrong may be)

One in four customers who purchased GPS tracking device had history of domestic violence offending, NSW Crime Commission study finds

    • +1

      Hmm so 3/4 do not

    • +1

The only thing we are guilty of is violating esim solder pads

    • +2

One in four, who purchased through one of 20 retailers who the crime commission used their powers to require them to turn over the purchasing information… Sounds like a targeted investigation, not a random sample to me.

  • Is there a documentation on the data it sends (if you configure it to use with own server)?

    • +1

Read the last ozb deal node, lots of good comments there
      And GitHub link too

  • +3

I give these to all my girlfriends

  • +4

Recieved mine today, all physical sim.

    • Thankyou, ordering mine now :D

  • +1

Yeah physical Sim in the two units I ordered last night too.

  • +1

    Received Physical SIM as well.

    Version: V005
    Software Version: +GMR: N58-R08-STD-OE_V30_XYR-005

Anyone was able to change server?
Looks like it doesn't reply to unlock commands, as well as factory reset

    • +1

It takes like 2 days to 1 week or so for the location to fully update online. ( Not China)

But server should be unlockable easily given you use the right commands

  • can't see any instruction RE how to setup the self hosted server. any clue please?

  • +1

Three received just now, all physical SIM - thanks OP!

    • +1

Ordered 2 yesterday. Arriving 9th July. Hopefully same batch as seem that some getting theirs in a day or two. (In WA). Last few have been esim. At least quite cheap battery if esim. Update here if esim.

      • +1

Yep, sim card one. Arrived today. Perfect. Thanks op

    • +1

      All unlocked without issue, too.

    • Bought 1 and it is physical SIM too.

    • Both unlocked and added to traccar.

  • So it states in the title that a subscription is required. doesn't this mean that it is sim locked, therefore you can't use your own SIM card?

    • +1

It's not sim locked, but by default it's locked to their traccar server - the commands above allow you to unlock this so you can use your own server, but you'll also need to replace the sim as the subscription would cover the data on the sim too. Setting it up on your own server and sim could end up cheaper, you could likely set it up on Azure/AWS/Google Cloud using their free tier or similar, and a data only sim with small amounts of data (as it only uses small amounts) can be very cheap.

      • @WazzaP Hey thanks for the explanation.

  • Your other option is to use an old android (or apple) phone. Buy a OBD2 to USB-C charge cable so you can place the phone somewhere secure within your car.
Then you can use "Google Find" to locate your phone and therefore your car.

  • +3

Ordered 4, all physical sim. I set one up 3 days ago and have only used 2 cents out of $10 credit on a 365 day expiry Amaysim sim. Not bad haha.

I thought I would mention that

    HASHTAGSERVER (#SERVER)

    should be

    SERVER#

This initially confused me because I was not getting a reply at all until I tried other commands.

  • Has anyone gotten the Ignition status working correctly with these trackers?

In Traccar, the device reports the ignition as always off. I tried using a computed attribute to set ignition based on charging status, but the device will periodically report ignition off and override it.

  • Just received mine and it's eSim :(

    • +1

Scratch that. Didn't realise the sim slot was under the sticker.

  • Never would though that i will have problem setting up apn.

So i got dodo sim, $10 for 2 gb data, calls, sms.
    Sms works fine. But status:

    Only battery supply.Battery:4.01V;GPRS:Link Down;NW Signal Level:middle;PPP_STATE:-1;GPS:FIXED,SVS Used in fix:12,Signal:20,0,25,22,23,0,0,20,0,0,25,37,Defense:OFF;PWRMD:65;

Gprs link down suggests that device doesnt have internet.
And device doesnt send anything, at least i am not receiving.
Apn is set as yesinternet (optus). When insert sim into phone it also shows yesinternet as apn and internet works fine…

Anyone has some idea how to troubleshoot internet access issue?

    • +1

what network does dodo use ?? telstra/optus/vodafone ??

      nevermind you said uses optus

      so need optus apn settings

send the below messages ( one at a time to the sim when in the gps tracker)

      APN,UNLOCK#

      LOCKAPN,WWDSS20,UNLOCK#

      APN,yesinternet#

      • Thanks mate for your answer!

Yeah, that's what I did, and it was succesfully set. But still no luck. I tried to add SERVER as IP as well as dns record, both didn't work.
I used tcpdump to see if anything coming to configured port… logs are empty as well.

I am just trying to think how could I troubleshoot it?

From the list of commands I can not see anything I could use to verify if the internet works :(

        • +1

Sometimes you just need to wait like couple days for it actually start using the right location, server and settings

The only other way to check it using data is via your internet usage records

    • +1

Having few of these. Put it in your car and take it for a spin. Usually it pick up eventually.

    • Thanks guys for all the help!

There were multiple problems in my setup.
First of all, access to the server's port somehow was not "visibble" outside, but only from my local computer. (I tried to setup via public ip address and ddns inside my localnetwork).
I figure this out using this tool: https://www.traccar.org/port-check/

Then I just spin up new env in the cloud and thing start to look promising. After analysing traffic I found out that GPS tracker is actually sending data, but it's not recognisible.
      That's because I didn't specify correct port :(
This page helped me figure things out: https://www.traccar.org/devices/
Yeah, I know that correct port was specified in the post, I just tried different things while I was trying to troubleshoot, so things went wrong.

      Thanks again!

  • Anyone having issue installing traccar manager on Android? Got server running on old computer and added some devices. When installing manager just empty and doesn't want to open. Pixel 8 android 14

    • Clear the app’s data from the app manager on android and reenter the server ip.

      • +1

        Thanks. That worked.

  • +1

Awesome. Didnt think i would be able to get it to work. But all good.

    Put a SIM card in
installed the traccar docker in Unraid
    SMS'd a few commands
    boom!

  • +2

I just noticed these have a microphone for audio monitoring.

Set your phone number as an SOS number and then call it.

  • A few notes for the first time users:
    1. You can use another sim card to configure the gps tracker and then just replace it with the one you want to use. Ideally from the same provider, so APN would not change(but can be changed as a last sms command before swap). That would save pay-as-you-go credit.
    2. Looks like gt06 protocol(which is used in the tracker) is not supported by Traccar for timezone out of the box. You need to set GMT,E,0,0# on the device and set proper timezone on the server
    3. You can send a command from the Traccar server, but no response will be shown by default. The easiest way is to check the server log (on linux: tail -f /opt/traccar/logs/tracker-server.log)
    4. With lower sent settings(no movement - every 60 mins, with movement - every 15 secs) it only uses 5-10 cent per week.

Happy to be corrected, as its my first time playing with both server and tracker itself
