just bought a bunch of security cameras hoping this tool will do the job to make custom length cat6 shielded poe cables to run from the nvr to the security cameras. .. *update: decided not to run shielded as it requires end connectors to be shielded, grounding knowledge etc.. im just going to stick with unshielded i think. keep it simple and easy.

seems like this is the lowest price its been on Amazon, according to camel camels…

*thanks troyww for commenting about how that this is a 'non pass through rj45 crimping tool'. so if your like me and didnt know what that was.. watch this video about it..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMAyDHISgxw
… a lot of comments on the video also say 'pass thru rj45 crimping tool' is easier etc.
so if you want it easier or your a beginner, then don't get this tool.. should probably get a 'pass through rj45 crimping tool' instead. thankyou

97 51 10 is available for even cheaper, and does RJ11.. (not that RJ11 has any use)

    • nice! that one doesnt say that it is designed to do shielded though

    • going to run shielded so my cameras don't get as much/any electrical interference with the video feed etc

Your domestic household wiring is not going to affect Ethernet…

        • yea probably not, i just like to future proof things.. cause you never know hehe

          • +4

@JURBA: Even with CAT6A it is only rated for 10Gbps @100m.. Need Cat 8 for 25Gbps, which we wont be seeing at consumer level for a long long time.
By the time it filters down to consumer, fibre probably will take over.

CAT6 UTP is fine for domestic…

            • @Ragnarok1983: yea thats good advice thanks Ragnarok1983

            • +2

@Ragnarok1983: Heard using shielded when no required or having shielded equipment that they plug into is a even worse for you than unshielded as they act as antennas.

In saying that, does anyone know if both devices on either side need shielding or just one?

              • @RtN: yea i think end connectors and stuff need to be sheilded/ground etc.. got technical so i'm sticking with non shielded. now.. thanks for bring up the shielding being worse if not done properly

Does anyone know how the "release" mechanism works on this particular model (not the one in OP, but this cheaper one).

I can kind of get it to work to release and hold together. But it feels flimsy/inconsistent.

One of the reviews states "do not do pass through plugs" .
Not sure if it's just me but I'll never go back to non pass through plugs .
I only do cabling a couple of times a year and find pass through sooo much easier .

    • thats some good advice there.. seems they're better for begginers, the "pass through RJ45 crimping tool".. thanks troyww

I did about 8 ends , none of which worked using crimpers and plugs that I had used successfully before . Just never with each other , Took me a minute to figure out that the pass through plugs were incompatible with my old crimpers .
I have Klein crimpers for pass through and they work well .

    • Oh yeah that is going to be a deal breaker..

    I’d fibre the whole house

    • +1

problem is power if you fibre, so you might also need to run a copper cable anyway to power the device on the end.

      • true! because you cant run fibre direct to tv's.

I would buy anything 'German engineered' and/or 'Made in Germany' with confidence, though I do not need this one.

      I mean it's knipex…

Everything I own knipex is so much higher quality than my cheap stuff it's almost unfair.

My knipex bolt cutters are insane

    • +1

yes europe is a tough market, if you make rubbish you don’t last long, e.g france facom too.s are great, german stahlewille vs snap-on. pity we don’t see much of the knipex electronic precision on special though for electronic vs electrical work.
