[NSW] Samsung 32" Odyssey G51C QHD 165Hz VA Gaming Monitor $284.99 @ Costco, Marsden Park (Membership Required)

300

Was in Costco, Marsden Park yesterday and saw they had a few units (10 or so boxes) of the Samsung Odyssey G5 32" QHD VA panel for $284.99

Unclear how long this is on sale for, but thought for a QHD panel and being Samsung, seems pretty good deal.

The closest is on Mwave/Scorptec at $299

Price and Store missing in title

    • My bad, fixed.

  • Fantastic price.

    Hey @justkev,

Costco print their receipts a little differently. It will always show the original price and then any temporary price discount (often denoted by TPD) directly below it. In this case the full price is $499.99 and discount is $215.00, meaning the price paid is $284.99.

    • Oh I see! That makes a lot more sense! Bugger I have the wrong price in the title then. But hopefully a mod can change it. And thanks for the tip!

    • Not if Officeworks price matches ehehehehehehehehehehehe

      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/samsung-od…

      • Do they match though. I thought the membership fee would ruin any chance of thst

        • Possibly

        • I confirm that you can price match with Costco at Officeworks. Price matched for my Apple Watch a few months ago

@khanggy: Good to know, I thought they would shut it down based on the membership fee straight away

        • Needs to be advertised on their website and show in stock for a successful price match including same model, colour etc

  • I paid $270 for this last week from Bing Lee fyi for anyone thinking of buying these.

  • Great price

    1440p + 32" = same sharpness as 1080p
165hz samsung/AUO VA = black smear + worse motion clarity than 90hz ips

if you are ok with those then this is a pretty decent deal for a big panel

      32 inch 1440p will never be 1080p

      • It's the same ppi as 24" 1080p, which isn't exactly sharp.

Giving you an upvote because you're mostly right with respect to a standard 24" FHD monitor, but you're throwing all VA in the bin again without cause. There's a $299 27" QHD 165Hz VA deal over at Scorptec that disagrees with you.

As you scale up, IPS is the slowest tech in play today, not VA. Each tech has its caveats, but right now VA at this grading seems to be in a good spot.

I know this isn't the motion 2.0 test, but this specific S32CG50 model seems to be not very good in terms of motion and has pretty bad smear.

Keeping the trend of the Samsung G5/budget lineup being not very good in general.

I don't know if you've seen the 240hz VA CRG5/G5 in person or not, but that was one truly horrific experience. It visibly smears when pressing the windows key.

Wasn't a dig at VA in general, just Samsung specifically, only the G7 onward are actually good.

The gigabyte panel you linked should be far better - hell, even the last-gen S2722DGM up yesterday should be better.

Yeah you’re right - personally the G5 is okay at 27” for QHD but yeah you really wanna get a G7 or better if you want good results and their are better options out their such as the LG UG or the Lenovo Legion.
I however use this as a a vertical monitor for purely emails and it’s more than efficient for that.
But for proper gaming it’s….as you said haha.

I wholeheartedly agree on the G5 and lower VA models from Samsung, but see them as an outgoing thing rather than ongoing.

We're quickly reaching 100Hz being the minimum across all panel classes, if not higher.

FYI, those are curved (G55C), this is flat (G51C).

Depends which a person wants, I'd prefer flat at 16:9 anyway.

I think HPdeskjet might want to say the DPI of 32" 1440p is same as the DPI of 24" 1080p

    • Aye. Unless you put the monitor like 1.5 arms length back it'll be quite blurry.
