[WA] 46% off Gas Usage Charges for 1 Year (New Metropolitan Customers only) @ Alinta Energy

90

Kleenheat just sent me an email about gas fees and rates increase from 1/7/2024. I was doing research to get a better deal. Alinta Energy posted this promotion to me and it seems cheaper than AGL (correct me if I am wrong).

46% off the usage component of Alinta Energy’s standard residential gas price for 1 year. T&Cs and eligibility criteria apply. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other offer. Only available for customers within the Coastal (Metropolitan) region

  • My AGL had 56% discount and now at 40%, but for both supply and gas usage.
Still turns out cheaper than Alinta as it only discount gas usage. Supply charge is still full priced.

Stick to AGL in my opinion unless your usage is alot more.

    • same here, when it reduced the discount I checked other provider AGL was still the cheapest otherwise I would switch to other one

    • still better with AGL for the same reason.

This is off topic but I just got a sms from AGL asking me to submit a meter read myself? When did that start…?
Login your AGL account and see if you're already opted in(right side of main page). To opt out @ https://www.agl.com.au/information/ssmr-sms-optout?

    • I was on 41% but hopped over to Origin as they have 10k Rewards points and 38% off. Will do a few bills then hop back

Alinta's usage charges are 9.66c/unit for the first 12 units and 8.66c/unit thereafter. which is significantly cheaper than AGL's 17.25c/unit for the first 12 units and 15.65c/unit for the rest. I calculated mine and Alinta came to be 35% cheaper.

      • Can confirm the rates you stated about AGL are before the guarantee discount. Check your bill again.

        • +1

You are right. Those sneaky bastards.I recalculated my bill with Alinta's 17.88c (first 12 units) and 16.14c(thereafter) with 46% discount and its $1 less than AGL's 41% discount plan.

    • Mines still showing 56% guaranteed discount, I didn't even realise it included the daily service charge.

I'll wait and see if/when it drops to 40% then revisit.

    • I was on this 56% supply n use for the past two years ago, huge deal. I’m pretty sure the new AGL rate at 40% is a better deal. Need to run the calculator, linked below

  • Whats better 46% off for 1 year or the fair go 35% off for 2 years?

    • Fair go 35%. However AGL has 40% off which is better than Alinta.

  • Not sure other states. For WA, agl is cheapest as the discount apply both gas usage and supply usage.

  • Is it worth transferring from energy Australia to AGL? I have never done a transfer in 5 years but my friend told me to consider it. How do you compare rates etc?

  • -1

Alinta is foreign owned. Kleenheat is Aussie still.

  • Alinta is back in business?

    Wow, sign me up!

  • This looks better with $50 bonus

    • If anyone is curious, I spend around $154/quarter undiscounted on gas stove and hot water.

AGL is currently 41% off, so 35% off with alinta is about $9 less, with no discount on supply is another $9.

So $50 credit is approximately as valuable as 2.5 months on a greater discount.

Therefore 46% off for a year is betterer.

      • $50 is only available if you are moving house?

"We will apply a $50 credit (including GST) to your Alinta Energy residential gas account. This credit will only be applied once per supply address in any 6-month period, and can’t be transferred or exchanged for cash. Only available for customers within the Coastal (Metropolitan) region who are moving home"

      • Your usage sounds similar to mine, my last bill shows $151 gas usage and $27 for both the daily service fee + account keeping fee

Got about $96 in credits with the 56% guaranteed discount

Not sure when this is due to drop to 40%

Atlinta's quoted rates include GST, so this may be why people are finding it hard to compare.

    Atlinta: 9.66 c/unit is 17.875 (or 16.25 * 1.1) * 0.54

Their quoted daily supply charge 25.91 c/day is 2c higher than AGL for some reason.

If you're on AGL 41% discount like I am, then this deal will be advantageous for you if you burn more than ~1000 units per quarter.

    • I had a look again. Daily supply charge from AGL is 24.992c per day and Alinta is 25.91c per day.
      Alinta is 0.918c higher.

  • What are the usage charges, admin charges and daily feed charges for this rate?

Some Ozb hero put this up a few years ago. Keep spreading the love

  • I was on AGL 56% not they gave reduced it to 40%, Kleenheat is giving 45% how is that compared to this or AGL. Any idea?

    • Does kleenheat discount apply to both supply and usage?

If so, 45% with KH will be better than 40% than AGL.

If not, it will depend on your usage.
