[PC, Steam] Free - Desktop Pals @ Steam

1114

Grab it before it becomes a paid game.

Desktop Pals is a simple 2D Game which allows you to share your desktop and interact with a cute cat! Scratch the cat when it is looking for love and hear it purr!

I would also like to discuss an upcoming price change. In 2 - 3 weeks, I will change the game from f2p to paid; I am currently planning to make it cost 1$. I feel it is now at a point where I can charge a small fee for it, allowing for more support and fewer troll players.

Not sure how this could cost anything

Looks like the sort of thing that gets an update that "makes use" of your spare CPU cycles.

Also straight copy of the Apollo reddit app.

It was called pixel pals, launched just before reddit killed third party apps and then became its own thing as the developer didn’t have anything else to sell…

I swore I'd seen the graphics before, they are from here - https://seethingswarm.itch.io/catset
I wonder why the developer only added 3 cats to this instead of using all of the ones from the pack.

maybe paid feature planned for future?

        • DLC

Desktop pet games have been around for ages, they weren’t invented by the Apollo developer

Wow, remember seeing something like this as far away as windows 95 or XP. This must be a Remake

Edit: Looks to be a bit older than that

    • Neko was the best

    • My mate had one of these long his xp machine, baked girl thought and found it the hard way that it was malware/virus. Got stung pretty bad on the dial up costs

  • Anyone remember the time Kitboga used something similar with a goose, and the goose would try to steal things on your screen while the scammer had remote control?

  • The old Petz games used to have a mode where the Catz and Dogz would run around on your desktop.
    It's cute but distracting.

  • This it makes me miss the Lemmings that walked over and smashed up your Amiga workbench icons. Also seems like a good setup for a secret horror game.

  • So is this an updated malware or legit?

I installed and ran it. All it does it place an animated widget right in the middle of the screen which there's only a few selections to change the shape (called Pals). And for what i could see you can't even move it and it always stays on the screen on all windows. Right in the middle of the screen which is annoying. I can't see how this can be classed as a game. It's about as boring as i can think. Panda Dome Advanced didn't complain of any malware.

      • It seems safe enough.
If you open the settings menu you can move the cat (window) using the x/y up down buttons so you can place it.

        • Oh i didn't know that.

      • Will install and check with Malwarebytes later

      • WOW BETTER GET IT BEFORE IT COSTS MONEY

Remember kids: just because trash might cost money in the future, doesn't mean it's a bargain today

  • Free trash is still trash.

hmm… doesn't seem to do much. click it and it responds… and that's about it. unless you build it to be more like a Tamagotchi i can't see how you can charge money for this.

    installed, clicked… awwee…cute… uninstalled.

This is just Clippy with extra steps.

Reminds me of BonziBuddy from the 2000s

  • Somehow drags down gaming performance.
