  • Where does Hisense rank among the brands?

    • +4

No. 4 after Sony, LG and Samsung according to Canstar Blue.

      https://www.canstarblue.com.au/technology/tvs/

Bauhn is ahead of TCL. Wow.

      • +11

Which means that list is outdated. TCL are decent TVs especially the 8-series, much better than Hisense let alone Bauhn.

        • Selling slow and buggy sets previously has definitely tarred TCLs reputation. Customer sentiment will be slow to catch up.

    • +1

I think HIsense is the best China brand compared to the rest. Have a 85" 4k Hisense. My relative in Singapore sells electronics and he agrees based on returns and repairs history..

      • +13

I was under the impression Hisense has gimped Australian models of their TVs for years now

  • +2

My parents have the 85" model.

it's better than you think for what they paid, around 2k 6-months ago.

It's a very bright VA panel, great motion handling. not sure about this 100" but it's honestly great value.

    would recommend.

  • Do these still get delivered in a wooden container?

    • Trying to answer my own question, it seems they brought the weight down from 100kgs to 71kgs… So probably still needs wood over cardboard to secure it during shipping.

If you buy it ensure it'll fit through your doorways! I have the. 85. Great tv. Some backlight bleed. And the wall mount bent under its weight.

      • +1

Wow that’s crazy shoot the wall mount. Was it made to support that much weight?

      • +1

How on earth would a flat screen tv box not fit through a doorway?

        • Have a look! https://youtu.be/cuodwy8h7is?si=r49yKALHd_WakiDj it's massive! (Also seems they only use wood for the base of the shipping box now)

          • +1

@Shon: Yeah, they leave it in the garage. They don't need to get the shipper through any doorways.

          • @Shon: lol the guy in the yellow top look like he sprained his wrists lifting that.

Also what is going on with the mount? Was it built into the wall when the house was built?

  • +1

It's 2.54 metres diagonally. In case 100 inches doesn't sound that big to you.

    • +3

      That's what he said

    • Damn so

  • +1

this or the 77inch OLED..decisions decisions

has anyone had this mounted to gyprock wall? I'm a bit nervous about them installing it properly

    • +3

OLED is still a superior panel. I would really go in store today and see them both if you could.
I feel like your mind would still be based on picture quality vs size.
I'd probably get something like this for the kids lounge lol but I'll keep my OLED for my media room

      • +3

or the 85in TCL.. for 1k less

    • +7

You realise that behind that gyprock are wooden studs… that is what you should be mounting to… who would mount to the gyprock…. would last 5 seconds….

What's your worst case here… the professional installers blue tack it to the wall and run away… sure….

      • yes. that's what I mean. not sure if I can trust them to mount it properly to the studs

        • +8

If you’re paying for installation - this is what they do, mounting to studs behind gyprock is common.

What you’re saying is like hailing a cab and wondering if they know how to use the steering wheel

          • +2

@andresampras: Exactly. Id certainly trust a certified, insured installer to do it more then myself lol.. Plus if it falls off the wall, they are liable to pay for the damages, if I did it myself im up sh*ts creek

          • @andresampras: yes I'm aware of that. for a 70-100kg weight on your wall though you'd better make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing, that is all I'm saying. thanks for your input

            • -2

@May4th: You are aware of that from his example: "i wonder if the cab driver can use the steering wheel" yet you continue this stupid comment train…what makes you think that even a standard wall cannot hold 100kg… news flash… some of the walls in your house are holding up the roof… or even a second flour… so they can probably handle a 100kg TV hanging vertically.

              • +3

@fefris: who said walls can't take the weight? I said I'm nervous about a 100kg weight on the wall hence to ensure it's mounted correctly - why is that so hard to understand? there's lots of gung ho fb handymans going around and not all are authorised installers

      • +4

Many professionals don't always do a professional job. But at least they will be liable it does fall and kill your kids.

    • Last time I checked, mini LEDs are much brighter, but have epic blooming issues. OLEDs have infinte contrast, but may have burn in issues. Thn again, it's been a few years since I was looking into the tech, so maybe each have got better now 🤷🏾‍♂️ Pretty sure OLED is still King though.

    • Wait for Micro LED TV..

  • +2

This is a lot of tv for your money.. still more of a quantity vs quality when compared to OLED panels though

  • +3

    Nice find OP!

One advantage is that this is a 5.5 star energy rated TV - running costs will be almost half that of the TCL 98in C745 (calculator for own usage available here https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/TVDetail.aspx) which could be several thousand dollars over lifetime ownership.

I have not seen this particular model, only the older Samsung QN90A and TCL98C745 setups at Harvey Norman stores and they feel very niche - quality not as good as the smaller and higher end sizes but good for a home cinema experience in the right room setup.

Not a fan of the Hisense OS but for this price and hooked into a 3rd party device like an Apple TV or Nviai Shield it is a lot of TV for the money.

Quick search shows the TCL being run out for $3,287 at several stores however as above it is a power hungry beast compared to this model.

  • +4

Have this tv, unbeatable big screen bang for buck at this price. Confirmed myself it's miniled 1620 zones so is the same as overseas model, and plenty bright. With basic settings tweaked and filmmaker mode provides quite an accurate picture.

  • +2

I’ve bought this one las year and it’s amazing. Never go to cinemas anymore.

  • Will they install it free with your own wall mount or do you need to buy from them?

    • +2

Just got a call that you need to supply your own wall mount or buy from Harvey Norman, what’s the point of that, it’s deliberately made confusing af

      • that's disappointing. at least they aren't making you buy their overpriced mounts. anyone have any sturdy mounts for 100inch?

  • +1

Insane bang for buck. I want a 100" for the living room but it needs to have a centre stand.

  • +1

    i have 85" model. it's been great.
If you don't mind vidaa it's a good TV and brand

    • Do the overseas versions still come with Google TV? I wonder if you can sideload it over VIDAA?

  • +1

The downside to this deal is the Smart TV OS being VIDAA.

    • But if you have something like a 4k google tv dongle, apple tv or nvidia shield, would having VIDAA even matter??

      • +2

Nope, with NVIeld & Google 4kast you don't have to put up with VIDos.
Best thing is you do get latest updates.

    Giving nearly 4k to Gerry?
    Meh I pass.

    • -1

The lower the price to cost, the less Jerry receives in profit

      • -4

Bet in a week or so other retailers have this for a lower price.

        • +1

Or just price match it now 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • Are the pixels getting obvious at this size? Hows the 1080p viewing experience and upscaling on this eg FTA?

  • Can anyone who purchased this please tell me the distance between the feet?
