AOL…for a moment I thought I was back in the 90s buying magazines with AOL diskettes inside

  • Bought for $1299 from E&S, early June. Good price! That was after they smashed AOs price. I'd say contact E&S and get them to price beat again (for new buyers)

    • Yep - did the same for a Bosch dishwasher. E&S were happy to beat the price. Tempted to do the same here.

      • +2

I never heard of E&S until that Bosch dishwasher in onyx black was posted a few weeks ago. Since then got the Dishwasher, Heat Pump Dryer and this washing machine. All Bosch. Their customer service and delivery was on par with AO.

      • @Naed Can you share the model, looking to buy one for us. Thanks

        • Looks like I misremembered - actually got the dishwasher from appliances online afterall. Was looking at another model originally and E&S did a price beat on that. Anyway, AOL provided a small discount and got the below model for $1,625. It's actually cheaper now.

          https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/bosch-serie-8-60…

    • VIC only. AOL is aus wide

    • +2

      What’s E&S?

    • Annoyed that I bought a series 6 a month ago for not much less than this from E&S :( Bad timing.

NB The washer is great, though I wish it made it clearer when the cycle starts (as the buttons appear to be capacitive you need to make sure)

  • +2

I just purchased this exact machine from AOL and we are very happy with it. Highly recommend. It’s very quiet and the new door light is handy to see inside the drum when it’s dark. Our older Serie 8 drum failed after 8 years.

I paid $1365 and then contacted AOL who were excellent in refunding the difference when this new sale started. And also lodged the $150 Visa card offer. They installed our new machine and took the old one. Excellent service!

    • +1

I purchased the same machine at $1365 in last than a week and was delivered on Tuesday. Agent said they can’t refund as the machine was already delivered. Is your machine still with AOL so they could process the refund?

      • My machine had already been delivered

        • May I please confirm if you asked for the refund after the machine has been delivered? If you don’t mind, would you please share your order number via PM? Trying to negotiate with the AOL agent. Thank you!

          • @xyann: In a similar situation, machine was delivered. Would appreciate having the order number shared as well if possible.

        • What the hell… I bought for $1370 on June 5th and the AOL agent wouldn't budge on refunding the difference… any chance you could send through your correspondence?

  • -8

It is a 'German engineered' machine, purchase with closed eyes.

    • +4

      It’s literally made in Germany.

      • -7

That's what I said. Cheers. IBT

    • All series 8 washing machines are made in Germany.

I think series 8 heat pump dryers are made in Europe but this is not a dryer.

Just dine some research myself not long ago as I was in the market looking for new combo

      • Really doesnt matter where its made, its the Q&A of the company itself.

  • Is direct drive more reliable and quieter than this machine?

    • Can't speak about any machines in particular, but belts are usually quieter and less vibrations than direct drive. The flexibility of the belt works like a shock absorber.

    • Belt will always fail eventually and need to be replaced.

  • Does Harvey Norman pricematch AOL including the free delivery? I’m in SA so prefer a local supplier if possible.

    • +2

I’m in SA too but went with AO. Harvey Norman will price match but won’t include delivery and taking old machine away

      • Thanks - yeah I suspected HN would be rubbish at matching AO.

        • +1

I'm yet to encounter another retailer that do match AOL's delivery + install + removal service, obviously the biggest difference is they are not a B&M retailer, so margins are different. It's not an apples/apples comparison.

    • AOL jacked up the prices.. its now $2545 !

      • +2

        Buying the two units individually is now cheaper - $1236 + $1242 < $2545

        • But no $400 GC.

      • Bastards, I wonder if they have some algo that adjusts prices based on clicks or page hits.

        • +1

I started looking at LG 10kg model WV5-1410 as a result from good guys for $787.

  • +1

Trying to redeem the gift card but there's no set of numbers on the plate behind the door that matches the requirements on the online form?
Has to start with FD and be 13 letters? Any help greatly appreciated!

    • +4

Use the 4 digit after FD and 6 digits after Z-Nr.
The 13 letters would be FD1234-567890.

  • Bought this unit two weeks ago…was fine until yesterday, and now it won’t start the wash (door lock error) have to wait until tomorrow for AO to request a technician to come

    • +14

Can’t really complain, you got 2 good weeks out of it

    • try turning it off at the wall for a good 30 minutes and turn back on, sometimes that can reset it. Worked on occasion with our Miele machine.

    • I assume u close the door properly and no clothes or debris when e u shut the door even a tiny bit.

My old LG very sensitive and will give door error.

      • +1

You could try some of that sensitive detergent ?

    • +2

I dealt with AOL once on a faulty appliance, and decided to never buy anything from them ever again afterwards. Hopefully you have a better experience.

      • +2

Same with me on damaged Phillips Air fryer that they delivered. Few months, multiple calls, never again.

      • -1

Why are you contacting AOL. Contact the manufacturer directly

        • +2

ACL says to deal with the retailer, not the manufacturer. Been going through a similar case for seven months with AOL. I will think long and hard before buying anything from them again.

    • Concerningly, I also bought a Bosch clothes washer 2 weeks ago from AOL and also experiencing issues with the door lock error. I have to keep opening and closing the door several times for it to start washing.

Maybe they have a bad batch?

      • Same model? Mine doesn't start the cycle at all, despite trying to open/close the door multiple times.

    • Update - Technician said it was a faulty PCB, so AO/Bosch has agreed to replace the unit. It was a good customer experience from both companies, sorted within a week.

  • What model codes are made in Germany again?

  • +2

My 12 year old Bosch front loader still running great, no need to upgrade at this time but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bosch. I'll be buying another one when this one eventually dies.

    • Country of origin?

      • +1

After a little investigation it seems it's one of "Asian" origin, it's a WAE20262AU.

Apparently Bosch quality is still very good whether it's a German made model or not according to a bit of a google search.

        • +1

Whitegoods are one of those things…cheap ones can last for 25yr & expensive brands go to shit quickly!

          • @Ham Dragon: Yep, Our no name chinese $199 dryer from the same vintage (2011) is still going strong too. Both get a fair work out these days too with two kids.

I have had to replace the start capacitor ($25~) and the drive belt ($20) in the past few years, but other than that, works like new.

  • +1

The LG WV5-1410W 10kg is on sale again if you guys are interested, 800bucks, compared to the promo sale they had 2 months ago for 750 which was ozbargain…also check the LG DVH5-08W dryer 8kg for 999 thats also on sale…at jb, you can always pricematch a competitor at jbhifi if you find a cheaper price…i notice they pricematch alot with AOL

  • I need a new dishwasher… Any good deals guys?

  • +1

I have the older series, the only thing I regret is 9kg just isn't large enough, can't really do king size blankets etc in it, only negative is it just won't die so I can replace.

    • is 10kg enough for king doonas?

      • I suspect it would tight but would definitely do the blankets and "probably" the doonas too, Prior to the 9kg one I had a top loading 12kg and that was comfortable fit for doonas and blankets.

  • Great price, bought the idos version last week for $1417 from the good guys after price matching with their ebay store which had 10% coupons. Although the idos feature been handy, would probably go for this deal.

    • TBH, I think iDos is the most useful feature in our washing machine I enjoy (not that it has issues of its own) . I'd trade in any other feature for that.

      • Same- I think the I DoS is fantastic- I’m not sure I could go back after having this feature.
I hope it will be trouble free. (12months old now- no issues)

      • Same, once you go iDos you never go back… well I couldn't anyway :)

  • Doesn't series 8 have auto dosing/iDos usually. This one doesn't seem to have it

    • Another couple hundreds more for auto dosing

  • +1

After reading the many reviews about the idos constantly breaking and how much it costs once out of warranty , I would rather one without like this model.

    • +3

Our idos detergent pump on a German made Bosch HomeProfessional WAY32840AU died after 7 years. The replacement is $400 (it's two times dearer than in Europe): https://wamelectrical.com.au/products/bosch-11018807-spare-p…

Even at that price, this may not be the fix as the fault may be with the corroded contacts on the other side: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058282608/bosch-i-dos-fixi…

For now it works with the manual detergent and idos softner, but we could have had it fully manual - would be cheaper and more reliable.

We were never happy with the quality of washing of our Bosch as the finished laundry would sometimes have dry patches, despite not being overloaded (it has a built in scale/load detection), and with all the water and fabric sensors it has. We had much better washed laundry with cheaper washers, when travelling. Simpler may be better.

  • Anyone know what the typical wash time on this is? and is there a count down timer?

    • We normally used mixed setting which is 45mins for 4kg

  • Wanted to get this deal but our 19yo Electrolux just won’t die 😭

    • Retired a 28 year old Miele recently.
Could of kept it going with a new part but figured it was time.

      • |Could of kept it going with a new part but figured it was time.

Ha ha .. it took 28yrs…!!!

  • Where can the Visa eGift Card be used? Can it only be applied to future purchases from Bosch products/AOL purchases?

  • With this winter, good dryer I can purchase? also so many types, vented, heated.?

    • +2

heat pump is way to go

  • 13YO bosch classix died - with about about daily use
for last 5 years (kids!) so overall can’t complain. Was tossing up about this or 10KG series 6 for $998 on AO - went with the later

    • Chinese made

      • A merc or bmw not made in germany is probably not much different to one made there. The engineering and QA is still from the same (german) company IMO

        • +3

I’d rather pay an extra $100 for German made

  • Why not save around $400 and get the equivalent Series 6 9kg front loader? Looking at specs there's almost no difference.

    • +1
      1. Series 6 is made in china, series 8 is made in germany
      2. You don't get $150 e-gift visa card with series 6, not really $400 difference
      • +1

You don't get $150 e-gift visa card with series 6, not really $400 difference

Wrong. You do get a $150 GC with a series 6 washer- for instance I bought WGG2449RAU, and the claim has also been approved. And WGG2449RAU is also under the Eligible Product Table under the T&Cs

  • Is the 10kg a good price at $2099 (plus $150 gc redemption)? I need a bigger machine, the price is just so much higher

    • +2

For the extra kg, that's essentially double the price… I'd say no.

If you really need a bigger machine then you'd get more value with an LG with their 10+ kg range.

Otherwise, this is a deal with a 9kg German bosch for around 1k with the GC

      • Thanks. Considering a Chinese made series 6 Bosch 10kg for 1k

  • +1

    +1 for the LG ,
I have the 10kg and it’s pretty much unkillable .

I think there’s always going to be dud appliances ,
and reviews reflect that reality , but unless there’s people crying out for a recall over a common issue it’s probably normal .
Hoses splitting and/or working loose and leaking is generally a normal failure point .
Probably 90% of the Bosch & LG will make it to 5years and maybe 70% to 10years .
Don’t know a great deal about the Bosch other than it used to have a great reputation ,
when I last looked at one it had a very plasticity front panel .
If I was buying again I’d try to get a good model 10-12kg or 14kg LG .

This 9kg Bosch is probably the only affordable one in the Bosch lineup with a half decent capacity .

    • +1

what model LG are you using? i like this one, but 9kg is just a touch small..

  • Heads up to anyone looking to purchase and hold stock in advance. Bosch requires Final Tax Invoice which Appliances Online will only issue during delivery. Initially planned to have it shipped by end of Dec due to an expected move, but might store it unopen in the garage to earn the $400 deal. Do you guys reckon its a good decision?

  • I bought the AEG 8000 series for $900

  • Got Electrolux 10kg for $937 price matched with Harvey Norman.. When looking at the Bosch models in E&S you can see the drum is very small, and shared for the 8kg and 10kg models. Electrolux and others have much bigger drums..

  • Has anyone received their $150 Visa card yet?

  • Thanks OP. Got the dryer as well with the stacking kit and install. Never owned a dryer before but should be handy in melbourne weather.
