FREE Digital Retinal Photography at Specsavers with every standard eye test.
Always been free, also be aware that all they do is take a picture. The more important thing is the competency of your optometrist in interpreting the image.
No, it hasn't always been free - I got hit $40 for it at Specsavers around 18 months ago
Is it actually free or just bulk billed with the eye test, I.e. not free.
Still gets a poitive for raising awareness that it's a good test to detect issues in their early stages :)
The eye examination is bulked billed but the digital retinal photo is not. You will find that most places charge for the service.
Except that Specsavers advertise 'Free digital retinal photography'.. So yeah, it's not a deal.
They say - "FREE Digital Retinal Photography at Specsavers with every standard eye test". So I'm assuming if you don't have the standard eye test you don't get the retina scan.
Eye tests are bulk billed my bet is SpecSavers are throwing in the retina scan with the eye test to help attract people into their stores. The optometrist looks at the scan so its part of the eye test = its bulk billed = not free.
"You will find that most places charge for the service."
really like who?
OPSM and most independent optoms. The equipment isn't cheap and the service isn't covered by medicare.
I was quoted about $40 2 months back by Laubman & Pank.
Forum?
yep. i think this is more for forums.
not a deal - this is always on offer
This has been advertised for months… nothing new…
This is news & a bargain to me!
I haven't watched/read almost any ads for years - so OB is my only source!
I was quoted about $40 2 months back by Laubman & Pank.
Checked other Optometrists (not Specsavers) & similar charge.
So refused as I am a cheap.
But a useful service as I was told it can detect important changes in eye health earlier. Would go for it if free.
Get the free eye picture but go elswhere for your test & glasses. We swapped from BigW to Specsavers this year & have nothing but regret. The quality of the lenses is extremely poor & the ever changing staff members mean that you don't get consistently good service. Plus the actual eye test was very short & not at all thorough like the BigW one. Very unhappy with Specsavers.
Um… the FREE Digital Retinal Photography at Specsavers only comes with every standard eye test. You can still go elsewhere for glasses.
Thanks for your feedback about Specsavers.
I'll stick with current optometrist for my free (Government issue) glasses but no retinal photo.
Oh well, perhaps they cut corners on the eye test then. They didn't do half of what BigW did.
Definitely stick with your free place for the glasses. The lenses are of very poor quality. We are about to return a pair for the 3rd time due to manufacturing scratches on the lenses.
Where else do you reckon we should go (similar cost wise) for glasses? I went to Specsavers last time but was wondering if there was any other good places to be aware of.
Well we will be going back to Big W. They have all price ranges of frames & have better quality lenses. They don't have as big a range but Hubby was happier with his frames from there. Sometimes too much choice is not a good thing.
er ok..this is kinda old news :-)
Can't find any previous post about this Retinal Photography deal.
FREE Digital Retinal Photography
Is there any other kind these days? ;)
As long as its nothing like a Digital examination!
I think you can only get the free (bulk billed) eye test every two years.
Nope, you get it every year even though I think it says differently on the Medicare website, it is actually every year.
Can anyone tell me what an eye test actually costs please? I had one a couple of weeks ago at Specsavers who told me my script had changed so little that it was pointless getting new glasses.
I hadn't been totally happy with them from the time I got them, got them to retest at the time but they stated there was nothing wrong with the script, so I simply put up with them for around 18 months. I was having problems with them of late, so went early (before 2 years was up) to get tested again. (Medicare covered it.) They tell me I only need readng glasses, but when cars coming toward me are nothing more than blurry blobs, I have a feeling they may have gotten it slightly wrong.
Went to another optometrist, who told me the only thing I could do was to go back to Specsavers and insist on retesting, as medicare simply wouldn't cover me again.
From memory it is about $30-40, not a huge amount, we had to pay for Hubby when he first came here as he was on a Visitors Medicare card & it wasn't covered. You don't need to wait 2 years, it is 1 year, Hubby has had one each year for the last 2 years for free on his Interim Medicare Card. I believe it may even be per Calendar year like the Health Fund stuff as he got his last Free test in Dec 2011 & then he was Free tested again in July 2012 so you may be able to get a freebie in January.
Go to Big W if you have a local one, they do super testing LOL :)
I had an eye test last month with specsavers. It was also free back then. It's not a deal.
