    Tell em the price, son

    • And
      Tell em the specs, son

  • Wot……..

    Wow. 7% off.

(Edit: Same price as from Rakuten, who afaik is the global distributor for Kobo.)

    • Only released 2 months ago

  • I read the colour screen is not great for black text?

    • Yes, apparently is darker than a regular black and white due to the extra colour layers, recommended to always have brightness on at 10%

  • If only it had Android inside …:(

    • +3

That's actually a plus for me and some other people…having ADHD while trying to focus on a book in Android means frequent distractions.

      • +1

Not sure what is the difference: this still has a web browser, on Android you don't have to install everything you don't need. So usually readers with Android have all exact same features out of the box.
But I got the point 👍

    • Have you looked into Onyx Boox?

      • yes, I did, they are expensive :(
I cannot find the AU price for ONYX BOOX NOVA 3 Color, maybe it is not available on AU market
And I would definitely get Note Air3 Series if I don't need to pay the full price for it

        • I've had the same issue that they are pricy. They are much cheaper on the Boox website when you factor conversion then local retailers by ~200 for Nova 3. You've to select Hong Kong warehouse as the US one doesn't deliver to Australia

I've been considering Nova 3 B&W over colour bc heard bad things about colour screen regarding battery drain and higher brightness required

  • Looking at the inkpalm 5, anyone tried both?

    • +3

I haven't tried both but I have the inkPalm 5. Think they fit different needs.

For me colour eink has limited benefit on a device designed to mainly read text, given the darker screen when purely reading B&W. Although, the front light will mitigate that.

      • Good insight, was getting english on the inkpalm easy?

        • +1

Many sellers on Ali Express now sell them already converted to English. I got mine via https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006376325378.html

I did intend to follow this guide to convert it, and used it to uninstall unneeded apps, replace launcher etc https://github.com/philips/inkpalm-5-adb-english?tab=readme-…

            @GeekitTillitMHz:

            I got mine via

            Happy?

          • @GeekitTillitMHz: I've had this on my Wishlist for ages. The idea of always having an eink book in my pocket is great. Do you like it?

            • +2

@theguyrules: Personally love it, taken over as my main reader over the 11th gen Paperwhite. I just use the Kindle and Libby apps on it.

Has compromises but the main benefit is its size; fits in my pocket at all times with my iPhone Mini.

              • @GeekitTillitMHz: I love the idea of having it sync with my Kobo Libra but it seems that'll only happen if I buy all my books thru Kobo and use the app

                • +1

@theguyrules: That’s probably going to be the easiest way; which is what I’ve done for Kindle.

          • @GeekitTillitMHz: this is the old one with Android 8, right?
they now have the one with Android 11

            • @kanu666: Yes. I believe the larger plus model is the one with Android 11. But the Mini is Android 8 based. Not really an issue for my needs though

              • @GeekitTillitMHz: true, the issue will happen when apps will stop working on Android 8.
I still have my Nook Simple Touch with Android 2.3, unfortunately unusable :D

    • What's the use case for a device this small? I have a Kindle 6” and wish it was bigger.

      Plus, https://podclips.com/c/reading-on-a-smartphone-suppresses-si…

      • It's not a smartphone. It's a mini eink reader which has the same benefits of a bigger one.

  • I picked up the Libra Colour recently from Booktopia on ebay for $279 delivered last week. Link if it comes back in stock while a decent discount code is available: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/296422338193

The Clara Color is probably a little small for comics, the Libra Colour is borderline for me.

You can view comparisons online between the colour and non-colour screens. The colour is definitely darker but I don't think it's too bad, backlight certainly helps.

If you're not reading colour content then probably a b&w reader would probably be better.

    • I know unrelated but just starting read demon slayer manga on surface pro tablet and its amazing experience lol.. easy on eyes . Portrait mode

      • I recently purchased The Boys and Ninja Turtles packages from The Humble Bundle. I also have the 4 Walking Dead compendiums to read.

        • My backlog are massive… tintin lucky luke asterix and many2 others (re read ofc)

  • I should have bought from Booktopia ebay the other week as the price was excellent.

Read today that Booktopia is in dire financial straits so I suspect they were moving stock as quick as possible.

$239.00 is the std price via Rakuten.

    .

  • I'm looking for a bigger screen e.g. 8" or above. Colour preferred. What's best budget bet out there. I've seen a couple and they were quite expensive.

  • my Kobo bought from 2017 now showing the dreaded blank screen with 3 dots.

So not confident in getting another Kobo.

However, they are easy to import external pdf and take all ebook formats.

my wifes got that one after being dead for a while. It wasn't too hard to revive - I think I needed to plug into a computer.

      • Oh ok. That's great to hear.

I did try plug into a computer as well but didn't see anything changed. still blank screen.

So what happened with yours when plug into a computer? it came back to life? blank screen 3 dots disappeared?

        • +1

I wish I could remember, sorry. Try looking on /r/kobo
All I can safely say is that hers is still working now.

glad your wife is doing better now!
