I'm really curious. What makes the Theragun 20x better than my $25 Taijima massage gun?

Why would something need to be 20x better if it's 20x the cost.

Diminishing marginal returns exist in practically everything.

The theragun isn't immune to that, but an athlete or someone with injuries would definitely pay $500 for something that will actually penetrate to where it's effective [16mm amplitude] and has a stopping force that's significantly higher than most cheaper massage guns.

Much like a massage isn't 100x better than a theragun, but that's the cost difference over say a decade [vs 2-3 Theraguns replaced every 3-4 yrs].

It actually feels like you're getting pounded instead of vibrated, definitely noticeablefor larger muscles like leg muscles and glutes etc. General quality like its build and battery is good too. I had a $45 generic one and now got a theragun mini 1st gen so unsure how your brand compares.

      • Agreed, we have one from Amazon similar to the Taijima one and a Theragun Mini and the Theragun is noticeably better.

    • Maybe not at $25 but you can definitely find much cheaper guns that have 16mm amplitude, exactly like the Theragun.

  • I have just listened to the guy talking about how Therabody started on How I built this podcast (the founder). Very very interesting story. Much like Dyson he was trying to fix his own problem.
So if you are short on cash and have some powertools around the house, Makita can do the same thing theragun does, thats how he first did it

    • i started with a bosch jigsaw, a jigsaw blade with the teeth filed off, and epoxied in to a golf ball with a hole drilled out.

jigsaw was noisy but worked amazing until I sliced my thumb open getting caught in the mechanism. After that I invested in a $600 massager after that. Was a new thing and no one else was making them at that time. Must be about 5.5 years and its still going strong, lot more variety now but still working perfect was worth the investment for me. My migraines thank it everyday.

Edit : Couldn't remember the name , was Hypervolt Hyperice.

  • Great price on the Theragun Pro G5

    • Oh but didn't realise the G6 is out now… So perhaps to be expected and in line with G4 pricing when G5 was released
