[XB360] Xbox 360 Store Closure Discounts (up to 95% off Various Titles) - e.g. Burnout Crash $0.99 @ Xbox

981

Another round of games have just been recently discounted on the Xbox 360 market place prior to the impending closure of the store front on 29 July 2024.

I suspect many of you may have moved on to a future generation of putting up with incomplete broken releases containing constant fixes and updates as well as shoving microtransactions in your face every other minute for you to buy a blue cosmetic skin for an exorbitant price. But for those who like the simpler times before corporate greed got out of control I invite you to go back to a generation of gaming when gameplay, fun and complete experiences were the prime considerations.

Lots to choose from on the list contained in the link - many only 99 cents including Xbox arcade classics such as Burnout Crash (90% discounted) which I easily would have paid a full dollar for based on the hours I played it last night.

Many of these are not backwardly compatible so now may be your last chance to legally access and add them to your backlog.

Kinda feel a bit sad reading this… remember the days when I'd boot up my 360 into Halo 3 for some fat kid customs with 12 old's using Kinnect mics

    • +5

You know, Kinect cops some flack, but I thought it was so well implemented in Mass Effect 3. Yelling the biotic power out loud rather than opening up the radial was fantastic.

      • I did enjoy doing this

    • +1

Was the fat kid someone you knew, or did you just select one at random off the street…

      ?

      • +4

It was a Halo 3 Infection Game Type.

Original zombie is slower with many shields making them almost invulnerable while the zombies he infects are faster but die in one shot…

It was usually played on fortress type maps or maps where the uninfected had to clear obstacles…

Im pretty sure people still host it on Halo Master Cheif Collection in the custom games browser.

        • Infection on COD: Ghosts, and Infected on Halo… amazing times, with intense survival. I remember playing COD: WAW Zombies in 2007 and being absolutely terrified of the confined bunker, with zombies constantly coming for you. One time at a birthday party we set up the RC car infront of a tv, and went to another room… to play Whitehouse zombies through the RC camera screen!!! Man, those sure were sick times.

    • +2

They should have gone and extra year, on the 20th anniversary.

  • +22

Still hate this decision, especially coming from Xbox and their constant talking points about the importance of game preservation.

    • +3

100% this, it really is a cop out.

    • +19

The X360 generation finished back in 2013. You have had 11 years to buy these titles since then. MS also made 462 of the X360 catalogue playable on the XB1 consoles and on wards. MS poured a lot of resources into getting those 462 titles to work. So they have done a reasonable effort at game preservation.

      • +6

Whilst the Xbox One was released in late 2013, 360 games continued to be released until 2018.

        • +1

Games being released on X360 after 2013 would have also got a XB1 release.

      • +8

That's beside the point. The point is that digital store sales are subject to the discretion of the store owners, while physical are not. That leaves future generations who aren't aware of capable of purchasing these games no legitimate way to experience them.

Imagine if such a constraint was put on physical books, movies, and music that was released years ago and not produced anymore. A second hand market allows the artwork to survive beyknd the control or existence of the publisher. That isn't the case with digital store content beyond selling the entire console.

This is why I always try to buy physical wherever possible.

    • +4

Especially when Sony reversed their decision given the backlash from the proposed PS3/Vita store closure. I'm surprised MS decided to go through with it.

    • +1

A large portion of 360 games are playable on current-gen consoles and through the store, not sure what your point is here. PS3 (for example) was 2020

  • +9

I need Burnout 3 Takedown back in my life

    • +4

Unfortunately, one of the handful of games that the sale price isn't reflected on. Still, 10 bucks RRP is far from a rip for that gem.

Don't sleep on Burnout Revenge either, which is back compat with current gen. Absolute ripper of a follow up, and another fantastic soundtrack to boot, last true Burnout game, not that I don't enjoy Paradise for what it is, and I won't pretend I didn't platinum their NFS Most Wanted reboot on Vita and PS3. But Revenge is definitely not to be missed, online is dead, obviously, but the SP is a banger.

      • +10

Mate Burnout Revenge is one of my favourite games of all time but not sure what you're talking about, Paradise? Revenge was the last game in the series.

        • +2

Forgive me if I'm r/whooshing, and you're just denying Paradise exists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnout_Paradise

        • +1

Agree, Paradise felt like the start of a new IP.

        • The Criterion Games Need For Speed Hot Pursuit played so much like Burnout it scratches the same itch, give it a go if you haven't played it before.

      • +2

As someone who very recently went back to play Revenger after learning that Takedown isn't BC, you may be suffering from rose tinted glasses on this one.

The track design is a huge step down from Takedown, and the visuals are from the 'brown and bloomy' era which is rough to deal with now.

Honestly don't think it was worth the 15 dollarydoos I paid for it. YMMV.

      • +3

Revenge just wasn't as good as Takedown unfortunately. Everything from the tracks to the music was just better in Takedown. Burnout 3 and NFS Underground 2 are seemingly forever lost on consoles.

      • +1

        Burnout 3 says 90% off….but $10! Weird.

    • +1

      Amen, my brother.

Burnout 3 remains my favourite racing game ever. Made me very sad that they chose to remaster Burnout Paradise instead of Burnout 3. This needs to be remade / remastered / whatever for modern hardware.

  • +1

Thanks for reminder and good of Xbox to decently discount these games. I'll be picking up a few.

  • +3

There's not a shitload of back compat games in there, unfortunately, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 and Black being the only two I've bothered to add to my library (did finally pickup Burnout Crash, but my old ass 360 doesn't have WiFi so I'll have to plug the thing into the internet to actually play it). Space Invaders is down to a buck fifty too, but it was free for years due to an error so is that really anything of note?

Here's hoping the July 16 additions go all the (profanity) out!

…and then here's hoping they announce "(profanity) it, we decided the lawyers can suck my dick, and every single Xbox/360 game will now just work as is, throw the disc in, redownload it, whatever, IDC, here you go, 100% back compat for all!"

    • +1

Get the wifi adaptor for your old ass 360 (and apologise to it for that unwarranted insult!)

      • Goddamn wifi adapter costs more than the whole Xbox is worth.

Paid 19 for it 8 or 9 years ago and it's served me faithfully as an attic guitar hero machine.

        • I remember when the WiFi adapter was 159 and you could pick up an xbox bundle on all for 199. Some crazy pricing.

If it helps anyone from memory china started making aftermarket ones for around the 50 dollar mark, but I have never tried one

  • +8

Good to see Puzzle Chronicles on the list of discounts. I was one of the developers of that game :)

    • Is it any good tho?

  • So cannot download owned games anymore after 29 July?

    • +6

i thought it meant no longer be able buy rather than download.

    • +6

My understanding is that you will still be able to download your content for the foreseeable future*, you will just not be able to buy anything from the Xbox 360 store front after the 29 July 2024 so, if there is any game or DLC that is not backwardly compatible and only available on the Xbox 360 store front, now is your last chance to legally buy it.

      • Foreseeable future could be the rest of your lifetime or could just be a couple of years, it likely depends on Microsoft and when they think they can get away with pulling the plug and nobody noticing. Unfortunately Corporate Greed will always be greater than Game Preservation to these companies. If Ubisoft can steel The Crew back from its customers who knows what the future holds.
    • Definitely can still download them, you just won't be able to buy any new ones as the store will be gone.

      • Aren’t they taking down the xbox live servers for 360 as well?

        • +2

          No

  • +3

It's not even on special, but considering we're on the topic of X360 arcade games can I recommend the Brisbane developed Raskulls. Just classic h2h arcadey platform racer that will always hold a very special place in my heart.

  • Any worthy xbla/x360 exclusives that didnt get next gen remaster on this list?
    Thanks for post OP

    • +1

It might not exactly be a list of 'exclusives' as some of the digital games were/are available on the PS3 and other platforms however there is quite a handy list here of what 'Digital Only' games will likely never be available again for the Xbox 360 once the digital storefront closes - https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/analysis-more-than-…

  • +2

I fired up my 360 the other day and my purchased downloaded titles reverted to demo status until i connected to the Internet and signed in online again. I'm assuming one day when the 360 can't connect to Live any more these legally purchased games will just stop working. Then I discovered the disc drive wouldn't read any of the old game discs! Meanwhile my Super NES boots straight up over 30 years later…

    • +3

We may not be able to envision it now but likelihood is there will be a 100% compatible Xbox 360 emulator at some point down the track and it will be left to the community to backup and preserve all these game images.

I have no doubt that one day somebody will also be playing Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X games perfectly on the go on a chinese handheld game console.

If past me knew that I would have all the original arcade classics of the 80s and 90s on a single arcade cabinet in his house and go on trips with an Odin 2 that played all the game console games I have ever owned up to the likes of Gamecube, Playstation 2 and Wii, my little mind would have exploded but yet here we are!

      • The compatibility of Xbox360 and PS3 emulators are really good now with the majority of games being playable.

        • Unfortunately not for Android devices like the Odin 2 and I haven't been able to justify $1000 for my likely limited use of a steam deck….. yet.

          • @Wuggle: No I wouldn't expect them to work well on ARM devices for now. You might have to wait another 5-10yrs to play them on an Android device as the hardware will have to catch up.

    • +1

I fired up my 360 the other day and my purchased downloaded titles reverted to demo status until i connected to the Internet and signed in online again.

This would only happen if your 360 isn't set as your "home" console. Your designated "home" console can always play all of your digital games without license checking.

    • +1

You need to associate them with an individual Xbox 360 to play them offline. When you buy content from the store via web browser it doesn't associate the game with your console. There are instructions on Microsoft's website for migrating them. I'd do that before the store closes just in case it doesn't work afterwards.

  • +2

Forgive my ignorance, but is any of this forward compatible, i.e. if you buy this stuff does it work on your later XBox One or whatever?

    • +2

Not for most, if not all of the games in this sale. 360 games that are playable on the Xbox One will mostly still able to be purchased through that marketplace.
This sale is for games that you wont be able to buy digitally once the 360 store closes next month, and only playable on the 360.

  • How do we get Skate 2

    • Not sure if it's still possible, I Googled 'Skate 2 Xbox 360' and it came up with a marketplace link. I purchased skate 1, 2 + 3 to always have digital :) and Session too

      • Looks like a physical copy for the Xbox 360 is only the way to get it nowadays on its own. Guess that explains why it sells for around $50 on Ebay and is also $48 on CEX.

  • +3

Thanks for the deals, but lol at the Xbox 360 generation having only complete experiences and being without corporate greed. Mass Effect 3 comes to mind.

    • Are you one of those people that focuses on a few examples instead of overwhelming trends?

Must be hard thinking the world is flat

      • I honestly think everyone forgets of the days of Diablo 2 and earlier when whatever game you bought was it, no updates, no bug fixes…nothing.
We’ve come a (profanity) long way in a short time.

        • +1

Very poor example, Diablo 2 is renowned for being patched for more than 15 years after its release.

      • +1

Are you one of those people that starts of with a comeback with "Are you one of those people that" I can easily label and stick under a category cause I'm triggered by your opinion therefore I have to attack you.

  • +2

    Nostalgia is a beautiful thing.

People always like to say current games release broken but older games don't… When many games did indeed release broken on them regardless of the platform.

It's funny OP says Xbox 360 was before it all when it was the generation that introduced patches for games and concepts like paying for multiplayer. It was a great time for games sure, but I think it misses the mark that most of the last 30 years have been great.

Again, nostalgia is a beautiful thing that helps you forget all the bad stuff.

    • +2

I have not forgotten about red rings of death, the Xbox 360 was not without its faults - but as an overall trend of gaming unfortunately corporate greed and digital rights nonsense is marring the current generations for me. Admittedly there are bangers like Elden Ring that will be classics of this generation but generally there are very few bright diamonds in the dung pile of current gaming.

Personally my nostalgia goggles favour cartridge based systems before the Xbox 360 but certainly the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 is the last generation I believe it is genuinely worth collecting physical media for - yes I know there was still patches but at least v1.0 tended to run fully from the disc.

Buying a physical game on the Xbox Series X has to be done with the full knowledge that the disc will be a useless drink coaster in a few years time.

    • You had to pay for multiplayer on the original Xbox too but the online service was 1000x better than the PS2 offering which left the entire online experience up to each individual developer.

PS3 online play was fantastic as a free service and one of the reasons the PS3 is still really popular in low economic countries today.

    • Keep telling yourself that when you "enjoy" your 100th open world game with melodramatic story telling.

  • +1

Next gen? There is only one gen. Xbox. Forever remember 14/03/2002.

  • I own most of these games already on disc. I can still play them in several decades once MS has shut down their servers. Don't trust M$ not to do this within the next 5-10 years because they will.

    • A substantial amount of these games are not and have never been available on disc…

  • old skool Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat titles for pennies…nice

  • Is there a list of digital only ones that might be reduced? It's pretty damn easy to get these on disc otherwise…

    • +2

You can cross reference it to the list on this page https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/analysis-more-than-… as I agree, I prefer to have them on disc where possible just for if/when Microsoft closes the old Xbox 360 servers down fully. However if it is a disc based game on sale for less than $1 I'm still always tempted to add it to my account digitally as well.

  • +1

    Google for Xenia and myrient

    • No need I have a rgh360 collect dust in my I set 😂

  • So many games here that I would love to try on my XSX, I never bought a 360. Unfortunately I guess they are not going to work.

  • Xbox 360 was a killer console but get your hand off it mate.

  • Excuse my ignorance - so these only work on a physical xbox 360 console ?

  • Up to 95% discount…. Will check it out when I unpack my r2d2 xbox 360.

    • No matter how much the House of Mouse tries to destroy the Star Wars franchise, at least that model of the Xbox 360 will still be cool!

  • People crying about these games going away now, just wait till you see how long the current gen of games last. A lot of people play online titles that disappear as soon as they pull the servers. My guess is no one will be playing Fortnite or current COD titles in 20 years. It shouldn't be this way. This is one of the guys attempting to do something about it, though to be honest I don't like his chances at all.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXts7rj4cSk

  • Shame Ridge Racer 6 was only on the US store. I must change the region to play it, even though I purchased it (from the US store).

  • If you delete the game from your 360 console, can you still download it after the closure? Or does the closure only affect new purchases?

    • +3

You can still re-download your content after 29 July for the "foreseeable future" aka until that point in time when Microsoft believe they can pull the plug and nobody will notice.

      • Literally zero incentive to keep the games active since they won't earn any more money. They'll just wait till even fewer people care.

        • There’s zero incentive to ever remove them. They take up a few gigs of space on their thousands of terabytes of server space and if no one is downloading them they’re not using any bandwidth.

          • -1

@MrFunSocks: Everything on a server requires upkeep/maintenance. I won't predict exactly when but they will be removed.

            • -1

@syousef: Digital data on servers doesn't require upkeep/maintenance.

              • -1

@MrFunSocks: The service providing that digital data absolutely requires upkeep. You have to pay for the data center space and bandwidth and keep those servers running. Certificates and underlying operating systems have to be kept up to date. You have to keep staff available who know how to troubleshoot if the service goes down. That just scratches the surface. I don't know what you do for a living, but I hope it's not IT related.

                • @syousef: Like I said, Microsoft own those servers and are already doing upkeep/maintenance. They are self hosting this data. The service is Xbox Live, which they have a massive team for. Microsoft don't have to worry about operating system licenses and certificates when they own literally the entire stack from top to bottom.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I hope it's not IT related.

It's IT, and I hope you're not in IT. There's no need to ever remove the downloads. Each game is like <4gb in size. They don't use any bandwidth if no one is downloading them. The storage cost to store the entire Xbox 360 library of digital games on their servers would cost them probably 5c a year.

                  • -2

@MrFunSocks: You are the IT manager of my nightmares. No planning or maintenance until everything comes crashing down. "Just throw some files on there and don't worry about it." That's NOT how a modern datacenter is run, champ.

                    • -1

@syousef: That's not at all what I said and you know it.

What I said was that these servers are already having planned maintenance and everything on them. Having 1TB worth of 360 game files on a few HDDs in one of their many thousands of servers isn't causing them any extra costs or maintenance.

What about this do you not understand?

                      • -2

@MrFunSocks: Oh the sheer irony of asking me what I don't understand. You don't seem to understand the difference between your MP3 collection and running a service like Xbox Live with all the technical and legal maintenance required. Honestly I don't have any more time for your nonsense. Stew in your ignorance.

                        • -1

@syousef: You're missing the point that Xbox Live is not being shut down. You seem to think that the Xbox 360 Xbox Live and game download files are sitting there on their own dedicated servers that require people specifically maintaining and looking after them. They aren't.

                          • -2

@MrFunSocks: I'm missing nothing. You're missing the point that I'm not wasting any more time arguing with someone who has demonstrated they don't understand the basics.

There's a bunch of Xbox 360 games which aren't backwards compatible on the Xbox One. For example so far i've found that Metro 2033, Metro Last Light and Devil May Cry 4 aren't compatible on Xbox One. So unless you've still got an Xbox 360 you're all out of luck. Oldest i've got is the Xbox One X.

    • +2

Most of the games aren't compatible with Xbox One. That's why they are on sale… after 29th July they can never be sold in their current form again.

  • Can anyone recommend some quality games from this list? Either kinect, couch co-op or something with a great story kids might be into?

On a side note, why not put the prices in the table? Have to click into each one, painful
