  • Wow that’s really cheap

    • and its electronic as well

  • +1

    Lovely timing, thanks OP.

  • Helly cheap

  • +8

Looks like the BEKANT Range is being replaced by the MITTZON Range.

    • +1

      Finally, height presets

      • +1

What does height presets mean? For the electric stand up?

        • +13

You can preset the height of a desk.

      • +16

If you're tech savvy you could have a look here if you're keen on doing this with bekant: https://github.com/gcormier/megadesk

        • -1

interesting! But I'd rather buy one with the functionality built-in, if i was in the market.

        • +1

As a hobbyist I would happily diy to save $$$

      • woweeee, i can't believe they managed to sell any desks at full price without at least two preset heights.

    • +4

      The rounded edges look nicer

  • +2

Crazy pricing. Shows you the markup and they are still making a profit!

    • +15

its 3 pieces of metal and a piece of wood, ofcourse they're making a proft.

      • +11

It's not even a piece of wood. It's a printed veneer over a honeycomb core.

    • +15

Not saying this is definitely the case, but they may be clearing these at a loss to make space for new product lines. Shelf space costs money!

    • +7

and they are still making a profit!

      You know this how exactly?

      • +1

When the same company makes 53 Million dollars profit in a yea then you know exactly how.

        • +30

That's not much considering nearly $2 billion in revenue

But they also didn't make $53 million in profit

In their FY23 financial statement, a loss of $48.5 million AUD is reported for IKEA Australia.

This loss is due to the early settlement of long-term interest free loans with parent company, Ingka Holdings Overseas B.V. Excluding this, IKEA Australia generated a profit after tax of $53.3 million AUD in FY23.

IKEA Australia seems to be 'laundering' money.

Between 2017 and 2023 the Ikea business generated $10.63 billion in revenue from Australian consumers, but only managed to deliver $89.9 million in profits, with unexplained expenses, franchise fees and payments ever-growing net losses pushing the bulk of their revenues into the coffers of their tax haven subsidiaries.

@spaceflight: Transfer pricing and tax minimisation strategies. Pretty common stuff if a firm has a foreign entity parent.

          • +7

@spaceflight: It should be illegal for Aus companies to borrow money from their own foreign-owned parent company. That said, there are plenty of other tax minimisation strategies that should be illegal as well. Companies campaign on all sorts of social-good and sustainability virtues, but never once seen a big company say "we pay our fair share of tax" lol.

Yet another great reason to support local businesses. They simply don't have the means or motive to engage in funneling all their revenue through offshore tax havens.

        • +1

You've got some flaws in your logic there…

    • Furniture game is around 400% markup, standard

  • What is the max weight it can hold?

    • +1

      it's under measurements
      Max. load: 100 kg

    • +2

I know what you're thinking and it is not a replacement for a cherry picker.

      • ha?

  • +4

Wish I needed one! Great prices

  • +3

Sit stand sold out in NSW it seems. Except some corner frames

    • Yeah, but not the desk.

    • Sold out in vic as well

      • +1

sit stand out of stock in Perth as well all models.

There seem to be a few corner desks and the basic desk in oak is in stock (9 of them)

  • What do people recommend for desks for home use?

    • +15

      BEKANT

  • +4

$150 delivery fee is pretty wild. I was excited for a second there thinking I could finally upgrade my desk from the wobbly poles currently holding it up.

    • -4

How much should it cost for two drivers and a truck to come to your house?

      • +1

Well I was able to source a third party service who was able to deliver my order for $55, so use that info to figure out how much profiteering IKEA are doing in their delivery charges.

  • Sit/stand seems to be sold out in VIC.

    • Still available in some colours for the large 160cm x 110cm one.

I dont need one but I bought it anyway…True ozbargainer spirit.

      • +1

just tried a few that say available for delivery and none were available when i put my address :(

  • +2

  • stock gone

  • +10

When I was shopping for a desk months ago I found the style of the BEKANT desks were quite wobbly when I checked them out instore. I ended up getting the TROTTEN instead.

  • Bought 2. Thanks.

  • +10

I wouldn't recommend this even at this price. Unless you can find a use for a wobbly table

    • What would you recommend instead?

      • +13

        A non-wobbly table

      • +2

Idasen. The legs are heavy as. Expensive but with the 365 day return plus 10 year warranty. Why not? We're using it for crafts, office (computer etc) and as a dining table. It caters to all height as well. I think it has Bluetooth too… Ticks all our boxes. Wish the actual table top was bigger but it's perfect for apartment living.

    • Thanks, saved me some $.

      • I'm using it now as I speak. It's not that bad. Some slight wobbles but nothing dramatic

  • There were about 4/5 left of the 120x80 sit stand at Adelaide ikea just now. Click and collect would be pointless in this situation as they won’t get around to being processed before someone buys them in store,

  • Added $100 gift card, page refreshed bcz store went out of stock, only delivery option for $39, as a result of refresh my gift card vanished and locked - then had to pay with credit card as stock was running out :( now i have a gift card with no use

Also paid $39 for delivery which I didn't plan to

    • That's why I never bother with GC with deals like this. Too much risk

  • +2

I ordered the sit stand delivered. The order just got cancelled and refund coming

    • How long did it take

      • +1

        Ordered 5:30 cancelled 20mins later

    • Me too, waste of time..

  • Amazing timing. Thanks

  • Purchased one few months back can i go back for the price guarantee

    • No such thing at IKEA Au. Tried with a king mattress earlier this year. Had to re-purchase at reduced price and then return the new one with old receipt. Bit of a hassle but saved almost $200

  • Saw this coming a month ago when the new range got introduced. But bought Bekant anyway knowing a discount would be forthcoming, but would sell-out straight away and therefore be unavailable, especially with the popular colours.

I just looked through what's available. Glad I bought when I did. Some offers just aren't worth waiting for because of the limited stock.

    • Now you can go back to ikea and claim price protect for the Bekant stuff you got before

      • Never done that before…. I do seem to meet the criteria… Is it just a matter of going to the service desk and talk to them? All my purchases are logged in Ikea Family account.

        • Actually, Price Protection appears to be a USA Ikea policy. Not Australian Ikea.

          • @Jinster: oh yeah apologies, just read it in more detail.

Next best thing to try would be to rebuy it then return with old recepit if your items is still in stock.

  • Unavailable online for selected areas. Is this out of stock. I looked at 30 different sit stand desk. All are unavailable

    • -2

      You snooze, you lose.

  • Thanks just picked one up for my kids in Perth. Stupid click and collect was broken and lucky i only live 5mins down the road. Was still about 4 bases left when i got there.
The other big win was there was all the KUNGSBACKA anthracite panels were on clearance for $10 each. Bought one that would fit the DISKAD dishwasher until i can get matching panels made up for the kitchen!

    • I think this is why our order got cancelled…

When we ordered online there was still stock for click and collect. However before the staff could process the click and collect order, walk-in customers went in store and bought the stock down to zero…

      • I find click and collect at IKEA (and also Bunnings) are often decided by luck when it's a popular sale, as they are slow to put the item away.

  • -1

Any deal on sound dead proofing?

  • -4

Thanks op bought 9. Only had left and right type tables though.

  • Saw these last night even tho they said the started 20th. Tempted but not really need it.

  • +1

Is it true that going in-store to purchase trumps buying online/click & collect orders?

    • Yep

  • During checkout it was pulled from cart. How come stores can't work this out in 2024.

    • Someone took the item in store and paid at check out

  • Wow I paid full price like 6 months ago 😞😞. The bargains giveth and the bargains taketh away

    • +1

12 months return - buy it again and return it on old receipt

  • +1

Just bought an Oikiture Dual Motor (150cm) off eBay as I was on a budget of $350 max and didn't know about this. Wondering how this would have compared :o

    • Yeah I am returning a desk I bought at the cost of $40 return shipping to pickup this one instead. Not ideal, but hey this has warranty and the net cost is lower.

  • Ordered a desk but cancelled it 2 hours later. Great deal for those who want it.
