The Chronicles of Narnia Complete 7-Book Collection includes: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950), Prince Caspian (1951), The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952), The Silver Chair (1953), The Horse and His Boy (1954), The Magician's Nephew (1955), The Last Battle (1956) Journeys to the end of the world, fantastic creatures, and epic battles between good and evil—what more could any reader ask for in one book? The book that has it all is The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, written in 1949 by C. S. Lewis. But Lewis did not stop there. Six more books followed, and together they became known as The Chronicles of Narnia. For the past seventy years, The Chronicles of Narnia have transcended the fantasy genre to become part of the canon of classic literature. Each of the seven books is a masterpiece, drawing the reader into a land where magic meets reality, and the result is a fictional world whose scope has fascinated generations. This edition presents all seven books—unabridged—in one impressive volume. The books are presented here in their originally published order. Deceptively simple and direct, The Chronicles of Narnia continue to captivate fans with adventures, characters, and truths that speak to readers of all ages, even seventy years after they were first published.

By Ernest Hemingway, 77 pages, published June 17, 2024

Amazon's Description:

The Old Man and the Sea was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953, and the year after, the Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Ernest Hemingway in 1954. It was the last major work of fiction written by Hemingway that was published during his lifetime. One of his most famous works, this short novel is already a modern classic. It is the superbly told, tragic story of Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman in the Gulf Stream and his struggles with a giant Marlin far out in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Cuba.

We love the chronic-what-cles of Narnia!

Loved these books as a kid… as well as the BBC tv series adaptation.

Still got my paperback collection somewhere… not sure if it's in a readable state though… so this free kindle copy from Amazon is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: FYI, Amazon uses the publication ordering of the books:

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)
Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia (1951)
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952)
        The Silver Chair (1953)
The Horse and His Boy (1954)
        The Magician’s Nephew (1955)
        The Last Battle (1956)

So anyone who like me who is use to the chronological order may find it a bit weird. Here's the chronological order for those who don't remember:

    The Magician’s Nephew
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
    The Horse and His Boy
Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
    The Silver Chair
    The Last Battle

can't believe you still have your books lol. I got them through primary school when they used to send around the lists of books available to purchase and you would wait for them to come in…prob early 1970's? I don't still have mine lol. I still have two of the ones done by BBC on VHS lol….they were given to my kids for Christmas one year when they were young.

I still have quite a few books I bought from Scholastic (who ran the system in primary schools that you are talking about) dating back to 1967-69.

      He gets better

      • Spoiler: But he gets better

  • I've read both The Chronicles of Narnia series and The Old Man and the Sea and can recommend both. C. S. Lewis uses strong Christianity symbolism in his writing, but his writing style is very fluid and engaging. He weaves these themes very cleanly throughout.

Ernest Hemingway has very simple prose, but it's impactful and meaningful. It is a little unnerving at first, but you will soon adjust to his straightforward style.

Lewis also wrote some explicitly Christian books, such as "The Abolition of Man" (Christianity/morality in the education system). He wasn't a heavy handed conservative Christian like G. K. Chesterton though.

Hemingway was awesome on how men should live in the modern world. His books often end in tragedy though, just like real life. "A man can be defeated but never destroyed".

  • Read these to my kid recently and there are sections that haven’t aged well – about how girls are delicate flowers not like boys, and a rant or two about how schools have gone downhill since they stopped beating children with sticks.

    • Caning as a school punishment is still routine in a number of former British territories including Singapore, Malaysia and Zimbabwe. It is also common in some countries where it is technically illegal, including Thailand, Kenya, Vietnam and South Korea.

It is good to understand that social norms have changed instead of assuming wrongly that everyone grew up with the same. You don't have to support those norms to understand them as a product of their time.

and the school system is a complete mess now.

    • It's almost as if you can't judge people of past eras with the standards of your time?

  • Perfect for a lazy Sunday.

  • I just re-read (for the umpteenth time) the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time in a while. It's such a little book. You could cruise through it in an hour I reckon, but still holds up. Very readable, very powerful, very entertaining.

    • Google says it's about 200 pages. Surely you're not crushing a page every 20s!

      • Copy in front of me is 170 pages and I just read a sample page in 22 seconds, so very do-able. That being said, I was reading it in small chunks here and there. It's a kid's book, definitely easy to read.

  • Narnia no longer available and old man and the sea is $1.64 I think in US and AU.
