There was ALOT of remakes in that Nintendo Direct…

    • +6

The eighth year of the Switch is a deep, dark place…

Beside that, playing the remake of Paper Mario TTYD right now and it is a hella lot of fun. Remakes work sometimes for some people 🤷

      • +1

The eighth year of the Switch is a deep, dark place…

Eighth year? The Switch has mostly been Wii U, Wii, GameCube, GB remakes through its entire life.

        • +6

I've enjoy both new titles and remakes 😇

          • @muwu: Maybe because you don't already have the games on Wii and Wii U

            • @Budju: Yeah, that's pretty right.

Ones I played before the Switch are Mario 3D World, Link's Awakening, Pikmin 3, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime, Mario 3D All-Stars (64, Galaxy).

All great games, really nice to replay when you haven't seen it for ages, say at least 5 years. I was blown away by Skyward Sword in particular, it crescendos into a better and better game, underrated imo.

              • @muwu: Skyward is the one Zelda game I still need to get. But yeah, it's kind of annoying that they keep re-releasing DK games instead of just making a new one. At least Mario 3D world added some DLC, so I bought it for Switch even though I already had the Wii U game.

                • +1

@Budju: The control scheme made Skyward a bit inaccessible for some. They've made quality of life improvements to those controls in the Switch remaster that make a significant difference while still retaining the feel. Distinctive controls, for sure, and not necessarily in a positive way, but they eventually translate into muscle memory like any other game.

I want DK 64 (Rare) brought to the Switch, that's where I want to replay it for the first time in 25 years, and then follow up with a new 3D DK game. Happy enough with the Country games, they're a great series.

Did the same with Mario 3D World, in fact I didn't replay the base game on Switch because it was one of the last I played on Wii U.

        • wait for switch 2 comes out, rinse and recycle.

          • +2

@OhNoUShiz: It's why I have shares in Nintendo..

      • +4

The kids and family still loves the switch, it really is a great system.

    • How many of them are actually Nintendo exclusives though?

      • They are all Switch exclusive titles atm

Dragon Quest remake might get released on other platforms, not announced yet

        • In the Nintendo Direct? No, they are not all Switch exclusives.

And yes Dragon Quest has been announced for other consoles.

          • @Gehirn: These listed new releases (on post) are Switch exclusives.

No doubt there will be multiplatform titles across the entire Direct

            • @muwu: Right but my reply was to the comment:

There was ALOT of remakes in that Nintendo Direct…

Not to the contents of this deal.

          • @Gehirn:

And yes Dragon Quest has been announced for other consoles.

Oh so it has, PC, PS5, XBX 👍

    • +3

To be fair, that's been majority of the gaming industry for the last 5 or so years. It makes me laugh when I hear "X year was the best year for gaming" Really? That year had like 2-3 new IPs and the rest were pretty much remasters/remakes/sequels.

    • We gotta re-release the same game, again and again! And on all different platforms!

  • +14

Will they accept 4x copies of Forspoken as trade in?

    • 🤣 🤣

    • Forspoken won't be eligible but you can trade in for credit, might get $2 credit. 4 copies might be hard depends on store.

      • I haven't come across a store that will accept any trade-in for these deals <$10, they'll ask for a different game.

So you couldn't do trade-ins of 3 or more games to make up the minimum value. YMMV

        • Sorry for the confusion:

Trade 2 for free game: No, you can't do that, Forspoken is not in the eligible list
Trade in for credit/cash : You can trade in for credit or cash depends on store/state, but will be low amount. You can then use that credit toward the RRP of the game
Trade in 4 copies same game: No, but again depends on store. Most allow maximum 2 copies of the same game.

          • @akte: How to work out which games have trade-in value of >= $10?

            • @proudwanderer: If EB preowned > $38 or $44 to be safe.

              • @akte: What if EB preowned price is $44, but currently "on sale" for $28?

                • @proudwanderer: Yeah the value change too. You can always walk in and ask them what is the trade price before you buy.

  • No PS4 games eligible?

    • negative

  • +1

They can't just give me pokemon gold/silver on switch can they.

    • They did it on the 3DS before…but those were individually priced games, which Nintendo doesn't do anymore - back catalogue games now are either NSO subscription only or remastered/remade.

      • +3

I have heartgold on DS already and there's no reason why they shouldn't have these games available on their current platforms. It's just a lazy company 20 years behind the competition that really doesn't give a shit about the customers.

Wokesters turned zelda into a bloody trans. What’s next, metroid’s a woman too?

    • +10

I ready the first line and got angry at you. Then read the second line, realised and LOL’d 😝

      • -1

I downvoted him without reading the full comment, couldn't believe he had 16 upvotes. Then I saw your comment haha

    • +10

I think Metroid is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesnt afraid of anything.

      • +1

wasn't expecting John Freeman Flashbacks today

    • Yeah I thought Zelda was supposed to be the guy… (lol)

    • it should be called the legend of Link instead?

  • -6

I thought the general consensus of the Link's Awakening remake was that most people hated the art style? Why do it again? Ehh

    • +5

Game engine exists already = faster and cheaper to reuse + recycle the same.

    • +10

Nah. I want more of Link's Awakening style remake. Happy to replay all the 2D Zelda games in this style.

I was looking forward to the fan made Era of Decline, but of course Nintendo shut it down.

      • Spewing dude, this looked sick.

    • +3

I think most of the negativity towards that game was because it's too short for how much it was asking at release.

      • And it was a bit dull by today's expectations tbh. I finished it thinking it'd get better but really wasn't worth my time. Never played the original.

    • I liked it but felt it's a little too shiny, would prefer a matte finish haha

    • Perhaps the style was disliked (by those who I happened to be exposed to), because you had the original art to compare to. I absolutely prefer the original art to the toyish 3D look for Link's Awakening .. but actually maybe it's working for this Zelda, Zelda game.

  • Wow thanks for those screenshot of the (January) trade in list!

Might try my luck and see of my old-ass Vampire Swansong and other assorted bargain bin crap I've picked up is still eligible (As an aside wow, they take basically every Switch game it seems?)

  • Just to note that $28 preowned sale price doesn't guarantee $10 worth of trade in. Wargroove on Switch for example (before the sale started) only came out at $8.

    • Yep, only a rough yardstick, ≥$32 preowned price even more likely

  • +1

    Updated list would be great

Bunch of games I want to pick up

  • +2

Once again they dropped the ball on the minigame count in a Mario Party game.

Seriously, just put 500+ games in it. Why is it always around 100?

    • +6

This literally has the most minigames in a Mario Party game. The major complaint was the lack of boards in the previous entry.

      • "Over 110" is still very close to 100. Again, why not 500+? There's plenty of non-wiimote-specific minigames that can be remastered and put in. Sure, they weren't all hits, but somehow two of the classic controller-and-palm-destroyer minigames got into Mario Party Superstars with custom warnings and all, so there is obviously some flexibility in the minimum standard required to get a game back in.

        • +5

          Personally: Quality > Quantity.

          110+ is a lot IMO.
(Glad this MP has an online component as well - of upto 20+ online players - similar to fall guys (or I think it is))

If the game had 500+ mini games, there would likely be not much time to ‘familiarise’ with them and make fond memories of them. (eg. I and fellow friends can remember most of the mini games in MP2 specifically because they were limited in number but of fun and high quality).

Besides, 500+ would most likely be at the expense of quality.

  • Sorry, I feel like I must be misunderstanding.

I have a few of the games on that Jan list that I'm getting rid of, they didn't cost much to begin with and wouldn't sell for a lot. If they're still valid games for this purpose, I give them two of those games and in September they will give me this new Zelda game that they trying to flog for $80 for free?

    • +2

      Yes

      • +2

Thanks, I just figured I must be missing something. That's a great deal.

  • -8

Fanboys are out in force in this comments section.

    • +2

      Absolutely good for them/ us

      Good observation skills 👍

  • What is the cheapest eligible game I can get, Echoes of Wisdoms seems kinda fun lol

    • check JB deals 2 for $30, you'll find some on the list.

      • +1

I'm yet to find a game on JBs 2-fors that EB values ≥$10 and JB has it in stock.

        Haven't checked for a while.. 🤔

        • +1

Metro Exodus on PS5 is showing as $38 preowned at EB so I'd say it would be eligible and is 2 for $30 at JB and looks to have decent stock.

          • @xTobyPlayZ: Funny that EB list from Jan only has a tick for the XSX version, not PS5. But definitely worth checking..

            • @muwu: If you check in store can you keep us updated, will pick up a couple of copies if so (can't get in store this weekend)

              • +3

@freoleo: Can confirm, worked for a trade-in deal today. EB values at $16, so should still keep ≥$10 for a while yet.

                Good find 👍

I looked over the rest of the JB 2-fors, I couldn't find any others that EB values ≥$10 and JB has stock.

                • @muwu: Cheers legend

                • @muwu: The staff told me the highest trade in value for this game is $10 and only if you are the lvl 5 membership. In my case it's less than $9.

                  • @gosund: I've had a couple of stores tell me the games that are eligible for trade in must be $10 or more at base price (before membership bonuses) - or are some of you guys getting trade ins with bonuses applied?

                  • @gosund: Probably had its value reduced now, too many people trading it in

                    • @freoleo: Indeed. Checked today and the trade-in value is now $8.

                      • @silverrat23: EB work fast!! Definitely reduced price now.

I did two separate trade-in deals using copies of this Metro from JB, both valued at $16 at time (it's always pre-membership level), the last one was on Sunday (23rd).

EB usually have the JB 2-fors valued <$10, this one just seemed to catch them out for a bit 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • Reckon there will be a special edition of this game similar to links awakening?

    https://www.vooks.net/the-limited-edition-edition-of-links-a…

    • +1

      Would of been announced already

      • +2

I think the special edition of LA was shown later on - not during initial announcement….Here is hoping 🤞

  • Don't go off the trade list image . It's extremely out of date. Better just to call in.. a lot of the games that are in there are no longer eligible eg dying light and wild hearts to name a few

    • +2

True, tried trading in LEGO Incredibles and Harry Potter but they only accepted the Harry Potter game

  • phew

Thank goodness no more Amiibos announced to make a gap in collection.

  • Can you only trade the games on release?
And are you able to trade multiple of the same game?

    • +2

Can trade-in now, up to 7 days post release date.

      Yes, multiples okay.

  • Trade in your crappy game for the $0 game, within 7 days, return it to EBgames and trade it in with other games for the same value of theinitial game you got. I got my persona 3 reload (worth $77) by trading in 2 crappy game with this strategy. Had to pay extra $5 though

    • I don't understand. What's the net result?

      • +2

I believe it's his strategy for getting a new game that you can't trade in for.

E.g. trade in is only for GameABC

He trades two games he doesn't want.
He also didnt want GameABC so trades that to get GameXYZ

  • Shouldn’t it be called “the legend of Link: echoes of wisdom” if you play as Zelda? 😅

  • +7

I checked some Switch games to see if they're eligible if this helps anyone

    No
    Sayonara Wild Hearts

Can't remember No's but to add to Yes:

      Little Dragons Cafe
      Wonder Boy Dragons Trap
      Azure Striker Gunvolt
      Doraemon Story of Seasons
      Longest 5 Minutes
      Fallen Legion Rise To Glory
      Bomber Crew
      Any Atelier game
      Bendy and the Ink Machine
      Coma The Recut

My personal value was, if it nets $50 on eBay, I'd rather use it for this deal. Don't dismiss things you feel are "valuable" because $50 on eBay is roughly $35 in your pocket after fees + postage. These games all trade-in for EB @ $36 credit (but they also charge RRP). Still….way less hassle and don't have to wait weeks for the right buyer on some pretty unpopular titles.

      • If I've got a copy that's about a $50 resale on eBay, I'll usually find a buyer on Marketplace for $40 (fair price considering feeBay). But you're right, these more niche titles mightn't have much demand, so making back that price and in a reasonable timeframe is more difficult.

I typically use secondhand titles that can resell for at least $15 (sometimes $10) or bundled 2-for-$30, which EB only values at ~$10-20, for my trades. It means I get these Ninty first-party new releases for at most $30 cost, and using games that EB is valuing at trade-in for as low as $20 total across the 2 titles, so feel like I'm getting good value there. Just a matter of running a search on Marketplace, sending offers, and picking-up (I only travel local, set a limit for going out of my way).

  • +1

Civ VI for Switch is a good trade-in option at the moment, it’s on sale for like $4 on the eshop but the physical version is eligible for this deal (I replaced my physical with digital and used it towards Zelda). There might be some other titles in the current eshop sales that are a similar story.

    • Yeah I used Civ VI last month, it's secondhand prices are fairly low, pretty sure the one I picked up was $15

  • Damn, my random-ass copy of MONARK that I still haven't broken the seal of came in at $9 and was ineligible.
Managed to pawn off Peach Showtime and AC: Mirage for Luigi's Mansion 2 though.

    • +1

Yeah, I was looking at some cheap secondhand copies of Monark before I called an EB to clarify its not eligible.

Peach has great trade-in value, better with the secondhand price or collect longer term. The AC value is crashing (typical Ubisoft), always good to flog that soon as possible lol

      • I think I got Peach for $50 initially, not that long after launch either (Must have been another Ozbargain Post about it here. From Target I believe)
And yeah I binge-played Mirage over the last ~3 days after thinking the same thing about it's value dropping. Incredibly short and clocked in at about 20 something hours.
Only paid about $27 for that also so I made out alright.

I imagine if you play the cheap-ebay hunting game and have loads of trade fodder you could really make out like a bandit from these EBGames deals, but I'm not a collector and am just happy enough with swapping stuff that I've played through like this. Hell of a lot better than buying NSO vouchers and getting them digitally like I use to do in any case!

Looking forward to doing the same for Zelda in September 👍

        • +1

have loads of trade fodder you could really make out like a bandit from these EBGames deals

Yep, that's been the game plan. I'm a big Ninty fan and follow all their releases, so getting their schedule at $25-30 per game is great value for me. I collect all my trade fodder locally, so just clearing out the neighbourhood's unwanted lil titles for pocket change I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️

Zelda was my first trade-in here, always psyched for that series. I've done Mario & Luigi and Mario Party too, so not far from finishing this Direct now

    • Is this PS5 or switch? Also they are having sales now, so all trade in will have lower price. I'm waiting to do the trade ins after the sales.
