      That's not the same oil

      • Oh wow I stand corrected, its 5-40. A very good price then.

      Spec sheet says otherwise:

      • Yea NFI what rant terrywang is on……….

    • Hey? It says it right on the back of the bottle (Industry specifications API SP and ACEA A3/B4) and BMW LL-01 approved.

    • Says API SP on the bottom left of the bottle?

    • Apologies.

      Amazon says: Technical Specification: ACEA A3/B4, API SN/CF, BMW Longlife-01, MB-Approval 229.3/ 229.5, VW 502 00/ 505 00
Apologies for the misled info. should have read official spec. Again, I'd recommend Shell Helix Ultra over Castrol Edge.

One thing to point out: Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 5W-40 HTHS Viscosity @ 150 degrees 3.68 mPa·s vs. Castrol Edge 3.5 2.9 this may be out-dated but you see the difference. Sad thing is neither Shell nor Castrol publish this spec any more.

Mistakes happen, all good. Oil isn't always about the viscosity, a lot of it is about a good additives package which prevents wear.

        • True, it's good price. The reason why I mention HTHS is that it's often ignored KPI but it's really critical for modern turbocharged (twin, sometimes tri-turbo…) Direct Injection engines that operates at very high temperature.

I've watch some interesting but practical and honest tests on YouTube, plus the word of mouth based on BimmerPost forum posts, made me believe that Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 (rebranded as Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 in US) is the best option for the engine in my car ;-)

      • But the price son!

        • Agree, can't beat the price. Last time I got 2 Shell Helix Ultra 5L bottles for ~$52.5 each (that was combined with eBay one-off voucher). They used to be ~50 but the QE significantly weakened AUD (SCA no longer stock Helix Ultra for a long time)…

The last time I got Helix Ultra 5w-40 5L from SCA was $39.9 (additional 15% off with gift card) back in Apr 2022…

  • why there's never good 0-20W oil on sale? it's always thick oil for older cars
