Was curious where the pickup locations were for NW Tas, turns out there's one in Tas (Hobart), 300+ km away

The pick up point is so weird and far from my place but I managed to change pick up point closer to my house at check out with the code on. Their initial location suggestions are weird

      • Won't work for me :(

They're price matching The Gamesmen who have all colours @ $67

    • Why are they only price matching two colours?

      • Amazon will probably adjust all prices if you wait… ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Bought one at Jb for $80.40 with extra cover replacement warranty for 3 years. I think the extra $13.40 is worth it, given I've gone through 2 controllers due to stick drift in 2.5 years.

    • I stopped doing that because I had the thumb stick rubber bits come off and they wouldn’t replace it because they didn’t cover physical damage. But yeah I’ve been through a bunch of them in just a few years. The drift is annoying af

      • +2

I see, I just use the stick extension add ons such as kontrol freeks. On sale you can get them for roughly $20 last time I bought some. It prevents the wear and I don't game that much so it lasts a while. Also, I find using them makes the stick feel gripper due to the rubber in addition to being easier and smoother to move around, due to the lever effect.

        • +1

You can get off brand kontrol freaks on aliexpress for like ~3-4 dollars (spend $15 total to get free shipping). Never had an issue with them personally.

      • The rubbing bits keeping coming off my controllers. What did you end up doing?

        • You can buy replacements apparently but eventually I got jack of it and stopped using the controller. Think I just got a replacement when they were cheap.

    • +6

I'm JB staff and I had someone come in today and price match this $67 deal. As a fellow OzBargainer, I recommended doing exactly this (and even mentioned stick drift). He seemed to not believe me though :)

Oh well… Guess he'll be back in a year again lol

      • +2

Yeh I don't know whats up with the dualsense. The dualshocks from my ps4 and ps4 pros never had stick drift and I used those for 4-5 years and had a lot more hours on them as well.

        • I had stick drift with a black controller I purchased, I just reset it and connected back up to the console and fixed

          • @BatmanAU: That was one of the first things I tried. Then I opened it up cleaned the board with with an IPA solution and removed some stray hairs which got inside the stick modules. I did this at least 3 times. Each time it helped temporarily but it came back after some time. The next option was be to remove and resolder in some stick modules which are only around $5 a pair on ebay, but I found out my soldering iron was no longer functioning so couldn't be bothered buying a new one and going through the effort.

          • @BatmanAU: Hmm, that's honestly a surprise to hear… Usually stick drift is a hardware issue and can't be fixed with any software fixes.

            • @Zackeroo: Maybe I’m just the one in 8 Billion people that Sony let fix it by software reset

        • Recently acquired stick drift (always wants to move left…. which is funny as my Xbox controllers either want to move up or down) with the white controller that came with the console itself - so about 1.5/6 years of sporadic use. I purchased a purple controller (the V2 design) a few months after getting the console… so I'll have to look out for that one failing soon as it's the one I primarily use for Rocket League on the console lol.

I was actually going to wait for a period such as this (days of play, or the EOFY sales) for the controllers to be $79 or under. Alas I opted to get a controller via the Telstra Plus Rewards program (had thousands of points that would have expired if I didn't use them). But the next controller that I do buy, I'll be hanging on to to the receipt so I can just get an exchange instead.

          • @hawktalk: PS5 controller drift is a common issue. Before getting a new one search YouTube for fixes. Including press down rotate, reset controller poking with a PIN, and rubbing alcohol around the joystick

It worked for me. My one also had static noise from speaker after firmware update. Factory Reset to default cleared it

        • PS5 controller has a bad design. Prone to stick drift

    • +1

i shit you not, since my last comment about stick drift (16 hours ago) i've just discovered it happening to another one of my controllers. That's either 3 or 4 now.

    • +1

I do not think you need to purchase extra cover replacement warranty. You have Consumer guarantee that covers any major faults of the controller beyond manufacturers warranty of 1 year from Sony.

I’ve exchanged a total of 5 Dualsense controllers (4 for faulty headphone jacks, 1 for stick drift) through JB over time. Most were under a year old, but the one that was 18 months old I was able to exchange after invoking ACL in-store.

I never had to involve NSW Fair Trading, but if I had, I suspect the maximum period easily covered under ACL would be 2 years.

I paid the $13 for JB Extra Cover because for me it’s a worthwhile trade-off for:
        A) Not having to waste time and energy arguing with JB staff or Sony, or lodging a case with NSWFT.
        B) Not having to put up with a faulty controller until the matter is resolved, or waiting for it to come back from being repaired by Sony.
        C) Getting a third year of coverage that goes beyond the predicted ACL entitlement.

Some people might want to call that a “convenience tax” or “stupidity tax” and I won’t disagree - I lead a busy life, and for me the convenience and reduced stress outweighs the cost.

        • Yeh these are my reasons also, mainly points A and B. I've heard repairs can take up to a month. Once I had to get a PS4 pro replaced from EB games because it failed in about 17 months, they resisted so hard and it took a bit over a month to resolve and would only give in once I threatened to take it to tribunal after addressing it with NSWFT first. The first replacement they gave me was faulty and appeared to be used and only then did they give me what appeared to be a new one. It was better than paying $550 out of pocket but it took quite a bit of time and energy. For a $70 controller I'd rather pay the $13 and have a hassle free on the spot replacement within 3 years, which btw you can just pay the $13 again for the replacement, which will start the 3 yr cover period again. So $13 every 2 or 3 years after the initial purchase if it fails, for a new controller, is very worth it in my eyes.

    • I have 3 controllers, have used them a lot, 2 since launch, and other than one of them getting mauled by a puppy, they haven't exhibited any stick drift or rubber issues, they look pretty much as new. Regarding the people with faulty headphone jacks, I wouldn't know on that as have never tried it.

      • Seems like you're a bit lucky. My first controller had stick drift within the first month, which JB replaced. The replacement then failed due to stick drift, around the 2.5 year mark.

Currently have two white and would like to have a set of four…. but two more white, or go for some colour, why must they give us so many choices!

  • +7

Combined with an Amazon $10 off for using pickup point this was a fair deal.

  • Come on purpleeeeee

Always been keen to try it out compared to xbone controller for pc/steamdeck

    • +1

      Nice.

      Reminds me of GameCube purple.

    • +1

      Purple, gogogo!

  • Damn it bought the Big W one for $71….

  • Waiting for eb to have the trade in deal..

  • Great price, I'd just bought at $79 yesterday, devastated.

  • what games do y'all use additional controllers for anyway?

    • i'm wondering as well. unless for for multiplayer games using the same PS5.

    • Before online gaming became the rage, the in thing was to have couch multiplayer sessions with friends 2-3-4+ controllers were the go back in the old days!

For myself currently it's nice to have a spare 2-3 controllers around for such adventures depending on the game of course. I've got a fair few Xbox 360 controllers laying around (mostly due to having 7 consoles during the lifecycle of that generation - and most of those consoles came with 2 controllers each lol). Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers wore out pretty fast (more the dpad than the analog stick(s) - as I lovveddddd my fighting games on the Xbox haha). I only used 2 PS4 controllers - the Arkham Knight controller + a camouflage V2 controller I purchased years later. I have a third controller (the 20th anniversary design, which is still unopened in original packaging!).

I've gone through 6 Xbox Series S/X design controllers thus far - have 7 in total.
Only up to 3 so far on PS5.

    • Don't have PS5. Bought one for our Tesla. Hope it works over Bluetooth

      • Just don't drive your Tesla into the deep of the ocean.

      • Update: it works

    • Works great for Steam Deck and some Windows/PC games where a controller is nicer than keyboard + mouse (including Hades, Mark of the Ninja etc).

    • Super Stardust

  • Tempting but mine's still going strong.

    • +2

      Bought one. Red looks cool.

Cobalt Blue has dropped to $67 too

I just dropped into my local JB HiFi store and they price matched with The Gamesmen for 2 Sterling Silver PS5 Dualsense controllers for $67 each. I didn’t really need them to be honest, I already have 3 white, and 2 midnight black dualsense controllers, and pretty much only ever use one controller… I have the white, midnight black, and sterling silver official face plate covers for the original PS5 disc edition, so I wanted to have matching controller colours for each console colour I have.

I went into EBgames first to ask whether they would price match because I walked past there in the centre first on the way to JB, and the staff member at EB Games said no to the price match because The Gamesman isn’t in the centre and is approximately 45 minutes away according to Google when he checked (which is hardly a long distance away, and I go past there regularly enough for it to not really be an inconvenience to go there to pick my order up). I swear it seems sometimes that some businesses don’t want our money, and would rather hold on to their stock.

Was looking for a PS4 controller cheaper then $78(amazon) or is this working on the ps4 properly now?

  • +1

Galactic Purple is now $67 too, and still in stock. Get in quick!

    • I'm lost as to Amazon's logic… are they rolling a dice to choose which one to reduce to $67 next.

  • Hold off. Rumours are that this year will see a new make of the controller which has 2x the battery life!

    • +1

Dualsense V2 will probably release with the PS5 Pro which is still a while away.

  • Ordered and collected today. Thanks OP

  • Black is now $67 too
