Will I Get a Fine - Red Light Camera

Hi all, I was driving from Webster St turning left to Lonsdale St. Dandenong Victoria.

Pretty sure I turned while it was in amber but looked like a flash in my rear view mirror (not sure if it was for me). Will red light fine be issued for turning in the next intersection?

I know RED light camera is at the Lonsdale St road towards the Princess Hwy & not on Webster St. Red Light Location

My driving direction

Cannot find similar info anywhere else, hoping OzB community could help.

Thanks in advance!

You could always just wait and see if you get anything in the mail…

    Just a thought

Don't see why one would do that when OZB should be able to answer it sooner…. :\

Foolish to think they'd get any sort of decent response without an MS Paint diagram provided though…

    • OB Knows better than that LOL

      Just a thought for OP

"Pretty sure I turned while it was in amber"

An amber light should be considered as a "STOP if its safe to do so" light.
Not a "quick rush through before it goes red" light.

      Hence GUILTY regardless

      • Only OP was there and knows if he thought it was unsafe or just didn't want to be delayed by stopping at the light. There are lots of reasons it might be unsafe like another car close behind and unsure if they would brake in time, or OP didn't think he could stop fully behind the line in time.

Thankfully these matters aren't determined by random Ozbargainers yelling "GUILTY!".

    • OP should have used a Magic Eight Ball

    Maybe.

Come back when you get something in the mail mate.

    • Bro never comes back as he's still waiting for the fine in the mail 25 years down the track.

Pretty sure I turned while it was in amber

Pretty sure your supposed to stop on amber

    • +10

Pretty sure it means go faster.

      • +2

Real answer is seeing amber you have a split second decision to decide it’s definitely unsafe to stop

        • +1

“By the time I decided, it was not safe to stop”

          Officer: how long was that?

          “3 or 4 seconds”

  • looked like a flash in my rear view mirror (not sure if it was for me).
Will red light fine be issued for turning in the next intersection?

Only time will tell if you saw a flash and if it was for you or not!

But looking at the direction of travel, the camera would be on your right/rear side, so not taking a picture directly of you. Someone else might have rolled over the line triggering the camera.

    • Yes, I am turning left towards the princess hwy and there are no cameras behind me. No contact with Lonsdale st as I am away from the camera.

    • +3

But they are a red light camera, not red and yellow light camera.

  • +2

You can't do much about it now so no point thinking about it. It either comes in the mail or doesn't.

You should get a dash cam if you want the ability to check next time.

Looks like the camera is facing a different direction. Generally they need to photograph you crossing the line with the red light also in frame.

  • Yes, I am turning left to the princess hwy from webster st (far away from camera) whereas the camera is in Lonsdale st.

Forums need to have an option for Report Reason = Pointless
I regret the OzB community member assigned to monitor that intersection stepped away for a latte at the moment you traversed.

  • 10+ years ago a camera flashed me for speeding, but I never got a fine.

Not even an MS Paint diagram :(

I'm still waiting for one from 18 months ago. I'm guessing I was saved by a truck blocking the camera.

Red light cameras only work to record you from the front or rear, otherwise they can't get a clear view of your registration plate.

As the only camera at that intersection is on the side you will be fine.

Also, that camera's view into Webster St is obstructed by half a dozen signs, poles, and litter bins, so it has no way of reasonably confirming when you entered the intersection.

There is no circumstance where you're getting a ticket from that camera even if you had run a red light.

Sometimes red light cameras are triggered due to weird environmental factors, however these never get issued as tickets as the photos are reviewed by a person before posting a ticket.

    yes no maybe

    • I don’t know… could you repeat the question…

Nice knowing you OP. Enjoy your time in jail

    • OP is in Melbourne, Dictator Dan Junta Allen will put them to death for this.

I spent a month waiting for a fine I was sure I would get last time I was in a similar situation. It never came.

Life is pretty miserable if you sit and stress about it before you have received anything. Just wait and deal with it later.

  • If the intersection does not have red light cameras, then you will not receive a red light camera infringement.

Oh, for god's sake, how can you be booked by a red light camera when there's no camera there. You've only got to rotate the google image and look back from the direction you are travelling and you'll see there's no camera there. They don't hide them.

The camera is on the other road. It can only book drivers running the red light on the other road.

    Youi won't get a fine.

How stupid can some people be.

  • Depends how quickly you turn the corner. My father got two red light tickets for turning left. If they can see the number plate you will get one. They won't miss that revenue.

  • Oh the long wait of despair :) If you haven't receive any letter after a month I think it safe to say all clear.

  • I'll wager a 50/50 if you get a fine.

  • Overheard a phone-call with someone who was wanting more info/hoping to dispute. To actually get a fine your front wheels have to cross the white line 1 second after the lights have turned red. So if your wheels first crossed when it was amber, you should be fine. My friend had crossed it 3 seconds after (admitted he just wasn't paying attention) and so he did get the fine.

  • That flash wasn't for you. You're not travelling in the direction of camera , so it can't take a photo of the car rego plate crossing the stop line on red. This camera works for vehicles travelling on Princess Hwy going straight towards Foster st intersection or taking a U turn on Princess Hwy only.

You will be fined if a fine arrives in the mail.

    You're welcome.

I have consulted my crystal ball and it says, "I have no effin idea mate!"

Please set aside some money for an impending fine and if it doesn't come, then breathe a sigh of relief and put it towards driving lessons or something.

Crystal balls are expensive. Hand in your Ozbargain card. You should be using a knock off magic 8 ball from K-mart. ;-)

  • most traffic cameras can not catch turning left vehicles
