DOA Scooter - Mobileciti Referring Me to Manufacturer

I Recently purchased a Segway scooter as part of this deal

When it arrived, I unpacked it and went to do the setup, but it was dead. Wouldn't turn on (yes I plugged it in) or bind with my phone to activate it.
I can see it appear on the app, but it won't connect. It seems like the power button is busted.

I called mobileciti, all good they said, we'll send you an email with RMA / return details. The email was "here is Segways phone number and email"

I can see from some previous posts here that they have done this before.

This is the relevant section from their warranty page on their website

Dead on Arrival/Damaged in Transit. If your product is damaged in transit or is dead on arrival, please take a photo of the damage or issue with the product, and contact us immediately (same day).

Now I'm wondering what my next course of action should be, I never actually got the chance to state whether I wanted a refund or replacement, I was told to go away before getting to that point.

With other retailers, a DOA always seems to be a speedy exchange (and it seems like it should be with mobileciti too if you look at their return policy), but right now I'm stuck with an expensive brick.

Ozbargainers, what would you do? Anyone have similar experiences to share?

      Thanks for tag me this.

@OP, I'm sorry to hear about this issue. Our team should have no trouble processing DOA claims like we do for other customers. Could you please send me a private message with your order details, including the order number? I will look into it.

  • I had same issue! My refurbished f2pro arrived with 3 defects which is not acceptable. They asked me to wait for a few days to arrange the courier to pick up. How did you pay with your order? I paid with PayPal just in case these things happen. If they don’t get back to me tomorrow I’ll try dispute from PayPal.

Sorry to hear you're having a similar problem! I paid via cc so that won't be an option for me unfortunately.

I hope you get a satisfactory resolution. Let us know how you go

cc still protects you, under worst case you can still do a chargeback.

    • does paypal still offer purchase protection? I thought they got rid of something

  • In my experience it is way faster to deal with the manufacturer. Screenshot the email and contact Segway. Tell them you have already approached MobileCiti and they were unable to assist.

I may be wrong here but my understanding is that the supplier (in this case MobileCiti) gets to choose if they refund you or replace the item. You as the customer do not get the choice.

    • I think this falls under a major problem as it's unfit for intended purpose which opens up the option for a refund. When having another look I found this problem solver which is handy.

In your experience, how long did the process take when dealing with the manufacturer direct? I guess what I'm concerned about is waiting for weeks to get a replacement

      • Do not allow the retailer to deny you your rights under the ACL, you can still get a refund from the retailer, getting a refund from the manufacturer is close to impossible.

      • ACCC won't do anything though…

  • Just call them tomorrow and tell them you expect a refund/replacement. They know ACL, but they are hoping you don't. Dodgy as.

  • Sounds like you got a manual scooter.
