  • There's some odd social media craze with dumping these into a slow cooker full of water, and leaving them to caramelise for a few hours. Real caramel is so much better, but it'S JuST So EAsY~!!!

      some odd social media craze

People have been producing caramel by heating condensed milk - probably since it was first sold (about 150 years ago).

Had a flat mate do that decades ago - can in saucepan on stove.
      (Guess he had the munchies😉)
Forgot about it until water level dropped & can exploded.
Huge sticky mess to clean up😜

Slow cooker is far better idea!
      Tastes good😋

There are other safer ways - by heating after removing from can.

Also sold prepared in a can - Nestle Top 'n' Fill Caramel. $5.90 @Woolies & Coles.

We have done this in a slow cooker a number of times

        • Hadn't thought of using slow cooker, even though I've had one for years!

          Grew up on Caramel Tarts.
But now my Dr says no!
          I would eat too many😋

    • Oh yeah…. exploding a tin of hot caramel, that will melt the skin off your face… fun times

      • Easy & safer to slowly caramelised condensed milk OUT OF CAN! See how online.

    • Try Woolies - same price.

  • Easy method to make a south asian dessert: khoa
    - Use a wide glass bowl, this is important.
    - mix a can of condensed milk, 1 tbsp yogurt and 1-2 tsp (not tbsp) butter
    - microwave on high in one minute increments, stirring in between each time
    - the texture will become grainy, usually after 6-8 minutes.
    - enjoy

Traditional method to make khoa is to reduce milk slowly, takes hours.

  • Cook in presure cooker for some delicious caramel. BTW Coles own brand for $1.80 and tastes great too. 👍

Also great to get is Nestlé Reduced Cream for some terrific creamy goodness. 🍧

    • Reduced cream is creamy
