@Jimothy Wongingtons: neil : there was about 200 ozbargain account deactivations today. WTF is going on?

scotty : Jimothy purchased a sub $600 panda today

neil : that makes sense. I guess for a lot of members their ozbargain journey is now complete

scotty : um, while you are here, let's say you were doing 104kmh and stuck in the right lane…

            Office door slams shut

Congratulations mate, finally! You've demonstrated remarkable constraint.

Stop posting fake panda watches. This is the real one https://www.seiko-design.com/powerdesignproject2024/en/panda…

    • Not sure why you got downvoted. It is, indeed, the only true 'Panda' watch 😂

      • "shrug" I haven't seen a more panda watch than this one linked.

    • +1

      where 2 cop?

    • "A watch exclusively for masking tape enthusiasts"

There's niche, and then there is niche.

    • Need

    • That's cool, any idea how much?

  • +3

Surely they can replicate their $649 SSC911P Panda deal from May last year (or better) soon ~wink wink~

    • The 911 is the best one.

I have to say though, I'm warming to the new releases (SSC939,941,943) and wouldn't be unhappy with any of them.

    • The New Years Eve deal was the best 🤣

Yeah don't like the 41mm as much with the red highlights, but also the 39mm fits me perfectly (6.5 in wrist).

    • @StarBuy let’s do it!

911 didn’t reallly speak to me…maybe I need to see it in real life.

      • +2

I tried both of them on in person a few months ago. On my 7.5" wrists the 813 looks super tiny.

I like the splash of red making it seem more like a sports/motorsport watch and prefer the hands/bezel.

        • Fair enough, at 7 inch wrist I felt panda was justttt right. I agree it is a little on the small side.

      • +1

        I see 82k yen, that's nearly au$800

        • Thanks Joe. $546 came up on Google shopping search. Must have been $US. Didn't think it usually did that.

    • +3

Am I imagining things or is it $611 here?

  • +2

Must resist … already have a Tissot that I barely use

    • +8

      its good for the economy!*

(may not be good for the economy)

    • +2

Seriously. No point having so many watches. Save up and treat yourself to a spring drive and that will be the only watch you need/wear - well, or the citizen cal. 0100.

      • I have a few GS with Spring drive and that Panda still looks nice. Tempted but i know i shouldn't as i already have too many watches.

Also the Accutron that Starbuy sells has insane accuracy. Very close to the Spring drive and a mesmerizing dial to look with the electrostatic generators.

      • +2

I have a GS SD and GMT, and 3 variations of the Seiko speedy, but not the panda. I'm wearing the night vision one today. You can own and enjoy multiple watches.

      • +1

Been through that dilemma as many people would, chopping an changing buying and selling to refine their collections.
Even so, one GS or Accutron etc vs 20-30 good but affordable watches.. Depends what you want.

If i was shelling out 10k it probably wouldn't be for an Omega or automatic. I'd want a precision quartz movement I think.
Always feel differently about it though.

        • Yea. Mine were all sitting in the winder initially and now all in the draw after moving houses. Then snowflake is the daily and hulk on occasion when heading to the beach.

If any, the cal. 0100 will be the final purchase for the reason you have mentioned.

      • I'm still very fresh to the world of watch collecting but can't justify buying something big yet.

I've got 15 watches (most of them entry level) and have spent probably ~$3K on all of them.

I've told myself next time I change jobs or get a big raise I'll buy myself a nice daily (Tudor BB 58 or Omega Seamaster) but in that same regard - I could spend that 6-8K on 10 decent watches to rotate.

  • Does this model come with Automatic movement and size >= 40mm dial?

    • +1

This model no. There is a slightly bigger speed timer but not the same.

  • +5

Nice work JW. Also today's DOTD which has a light green luminous dial -

    Citizen Eco-Drive 44mm Chrono CA4507-84X$249 delivered.

    • +1

Cheers WN - I will update when I’m back to my desk

    • This is kind of cool, but a bad design. If the Whole face is glowing how do I tell the time then… they should have left the hands black.

    • +1

@WatchNerd it would look good on you.

  • +2

    Any deals on Invicta Joker?

    • +3

Ha no they are massively over priced. I had a look on Aliexpress & the most popular (178 sold) is this one for… US$20.54 + GST.

      • +6

        Make that 179 sold!

      • +2

        Haha I don’t know what I expected when I clicked that one…

  • +8

    Oh, that Presage…must resist.

Nice work, though JW. Love your commitment to the community.

    • Cheers mate

    • That Presage is a steal at that price :)

      • was tempted like..oh while im here i might as well save starbuy the postage and just let them combine postage for 2 ! but nah… i kinda feel the SRPB41J more.

  • +2

As someone who just bought the Lasoo deal one from a few days ago.. I am sad

    • On the upside at least you didn’t pay over $600 for it.

      • +1

        It was $607.5!

        • +1

Haha, sorry - my bad - that’s what I get for replying comments while also in a meeting… still a decent saving over the original 670 ish tag like what is currently on watchdepot (though I guess to be fair watchdepot iirc still has a $20 sign up voucher which can be abused)

      • I paid full retail for mine (over $1k) on the first day of release because I couldn't wait for the price to come down 🙄

        • +1

i know its impossible for me, but damn how good would it be to be in a position where i could pay rrp for a seiko :(

wear it in good health my brother.

          • +1

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I rarely pay full retail for things but I had been wanting a good Daytona style Seiko for a long time and jumped when Seiko decided to release one 😅

  • Probably just me, not a fan of watches spelling out "TACHYMETER" on the bezel, "UNITS PER HOUR" makes much more sense, and doesn't have to care about "TACHYMETER" or "TACHYMETRE".

    • +2

That is getting VERY picky hahaha.

    • i kinda see where you're coming from, but the limited times i tried it on it didnt jump out at me..hope that dont change!

    • Not a fan of the moonwatch either I take it?

    • +1

Let's face it. 99% of people don't need it or will use it, it's just the overall look that is cool.

  • +1

Thanks JW. I have been looking at the SRP841J for my wife, any chance of a deal on that one you think?

  • I wish this was 40 or 42 mm

    • +2

I think these go good on up to 7 inch wrist generally (I am just on 7 inch wrist size)

  • +2

    @Jimothy Wongingtons
What a dilemma. When everything will look good on you. 😄

On the site note, a personalized Ozb exclusive code e.g JIMOTHYW , would have been nicer.

    • +2

Haha a code was in the talks originally but they decided this would be easier to facilitate. No complaints and thankful etither way I can cross this baby off my list of obsessions.

  • Started researching on watches couple of months ago via Chrono24, Youtube ( Teddy etc). I can't make up my mind which watch to get :(
How do you guys decide which one to get? I love spring drive GS but can't afford it.

    • +2

if it's on sale and I like it, i sleep on it then i buy it if i still want it

    • +2

Not that I like Teddy but this panda was in a few of his videos - he has it in his ‘top iconic’ watches video too if you care

    • +3

Everyone has different rules (and budgets!).

I look at a watch and think: Do I really want this? Does it bring something to the table that I don't already have? Is that desire and difference worth the cost? Does it spark joy?

And, also: will I wear it? I don't want a collection of box queens, they have to ones that I want to wear and not just have for the sake of having.

      • LOL - ‘box queens’ made me laugh. I agree with the sentiment, I buy watches I want to wear. If it’s not getting wrist-time then that’s a sure indication the time is ripe to pass it along to make space for something else instead.

    • +1

Casio F91W is the only watch you need

  • -1

Give me Prospex or give me death

  • Damn, shame that Presage isn't THE Presage.. 😪

I think I sorta like WatchNerds post though.

  • Panda SSC813P Speedtimer @ $579

    Nice, but Im poor now.

    • credit card brah, thats a problem for 30-45 days in the future Trishool

      • +2

OMG you said the C word.

  • +1

I paid $599 back in may 2023!! I didn’t think it would get better!!!

Maybe buy another one for my right wrist

    • +2

$20 for 13 more months enjoyment than anyone buying today is a pretty good deal.
Though what value does @Jimothy Wongingtons place on the passion, desire and chase for that period?

      • +5

the release after hitting that MF' paypal check out button was unreal.
i dont know if ill be able to match that dopamine release for a long time

  • +1

Man why Deepak gotta edge me like this again?

  • +2

Thank you so much!! Couldn't have been better timing.
Just picked one up for my fiancé's birthday at the end of the month. He's gonna be stoked (and so am I, with the price).

  • +8
