This has to be the first time I've seen a portable air purifier actual do the incredibly obvious move of putting a washable dust filter in front of the consumable filters

    • Yeah that's a no brainer hey.. replacement filters are only $50 which is pretty good too

      • where do you find $50?

The legendary Ikea FÖRNUFTIG has always had a washable pre-filter/screen!

      • I've seen the FÖRNUFTIG before but it never clicked to me until now that the front panel was actually a cleverly disguised dust filter!

      • Is this FÖRNUFTIG the ‘go-to’ filter for home/personal use? And is $99 a decent price or is there regular sales?

I am looking at investing in an air purifier but have little idea about whats good and what to avoid

        TIA!

    • Really? The Phillips purifiers have them too

      • Not all the ones I just looked at on their website. If you are referring to the grill, those don't work as a dust filter (all air purifiers have a grill of some sort). A cleanable dust filter is removable and resembles the cleanable dust filters that come with most ACs.

Looking at all the Phillips ones, only the expensive combo dehumidifier/purifier has a cleanable dust filter

        • My older 1000 series has a washable dust filter, but it's rectangular like this one. Probably lost them in the switch to the barrel versions.

          • @Crowmanz: That makes sense, I haven't seen the old ones, and it would be tricky to make a washable filter for the barrel ones they now sell.

I have a couple barrel purifiers and I wrap them in electrostatic cotton to keep dust off the HEPA filters.

But then you wouldn't have to buy filters as often (:

Chiming in as always to say air purifiers should have a price and location for filters in the description, maybe some commentary for how easily obtainable the filters are. Some are not at all.

    • Agree here

    • 100%. One of my air purifiers seems to only have it's filters in stock a few months out of the year.

      • Damn what brand is it?

        • Homedics, the machine is discontinued so the only place the filters aren't gauged is the official website which is often out of stock. At least the filters are still cheap when they are in stock ($30) so I buy a bunch every few years

          • @meeowth: Damn. I sometimes wonder if just cutting a random other filter to the same size would do the job.

            • @gakko: I think one of the advantages of these purifiers over the barrel purifiers is that you can do just that in a pinch. Use some cardboard and duct tape if needed for a seal

  • Ozone?

  • Anyone know how this compares to xiaomi 2s?
