  • Nice cheap mesh network… is the home base gigabit?

Currently have a Nighthawk r7000 tucked away in a corner of the house. It reaches the whole house but towards the end of the house is a bit of a struggle.

Would this be an upgrade? Or alternatively what would be an upgrade path to the r7000 without spending 500 bucks.

Whats your ISP speed? If anything above 100/20 plan then dont consider this one.

      • Only 50 now. But might give it a miss for a bit of future proofing.

    • This will give you full service across your home

  • Would this be an upgrade over a Tenda MW3 mesh 3 system. Not happy with mine.

    • What is the issue? Mine are working ok.

      • poor coverage, low speed, microwave kills connections

        • I put one in the lounge, one in my room, and one in the garage. Seems to cover ok. Think of an upgrade when I upgrade my NBN so I'd look at wifi 6 ac1800.

          • @Bii: truthfully coverage is not the biggest issue. just slow for me.

            • @jastreb: MW3 comes with 5GHz wifi which should max out NBN 100 ok. I haven't had a chance to test the max speed yet. Maybe try give them a reset/schedule reset.

              • @Bii: Its on a nightly scheduled reboot. anyway, I am not going to go for this deal until something else comes up that's obviously an upgrade. Thank you

        • Regarding the microwave problem, I find the only effective solution is to either use wired backhaul or find a mesh setup with a dedicated band for it.

Found out the hard way that microwaves also live on around 2.4Ghz and cause some nasty interference when in use. Use 5Ghz on your devices when you can.

I bought a Deco S4 setup for my grandparent's house and we ended up just moving the microwave far away

I put a set (3) of these into my sisters house about 2 months ago. I paid ~$150 and they were good buying at that money.
Coverage across a large-ish 2 storey home has been great, and extends to the front driveway for smart controllers (Genio) on the gate and garage doors.

No real downsides. They are smaller than what I thought they would be, very plasticky/cheap feeling, but do the job and were easy to setup. LED's are super bright at night but my sister (not an IT person) worked out how to turn them off at night but have them on during the day.

  • Would this replace a modem? And, would it work with VoIP?

    • People still use VoIP?

      • Why would you not use voip? Whats alternative?

        • My mobile which is on an unlimited plan?

@Spootage: Some people are stuck in their ways and want a 'landline'. Hence, the question.

  • Shame this deal finished. I just finished installing this at a friends place. super simple setup and solved all their coverage problems. Must have just expired as I had another friend wanting to go with the Deco and the price reduction was still there this morning I think

  • Found you can still get it for $90 delivered via a different amazon link >> https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07TV5WQ78/ref=ox_sc_ac…
