Cheapest Way to Receive SMS Whilst Overseas for an Extended Period

What's the cheapest way to receive SMS to my Australian number when overseas? Ill be gone for 6months. So price point is critical!

I plan on using Airalo for data, which doesn't include a local number. Phone is Samsung Galaxy S24 (allows dual e-Sim or physical SIM plus e-Sim)

+1 for amaysim. The $10 roaming credit is great for the occasional 2FA. Just switch your line on/off. You can also hold your number on the $0 PAYG plan.

  • Boost mobile 1 month recharge + followed by 6 months incoming validity ~ cost should be less than $5 i think if you get the 28 day pack during cashback upsizes

Also btw how much data do you really need overseas ?? if say less than 5GB, its best to just get like 5x 1GB trial Signup free esim data instead

  • If you're keeping your regular plan for your AU number, just switch off roaming, and use the data sim for data. You'll still receive SMS at no charge to your local number. Otherwise some cheap prepaid 6 month SIM. Did this recently for travel; Telstra number as eSIM, roaming off; data SIM for data. Received all my SMS including the pesky validation ones at no extra cost.

  • Lebara PAYG Standard Plan $7 for The First 365 Days

    • How do any of these work for receiving 2FA codes from banks, mygov etc. ?

  • I was in singapore with Boost and received all my texts as per normal just roaming (didn't pay anything additional) i believe it came via wifi. Worked to receive 2FA etc.
