Dune 4WD Low Smoke Fire Pit - $129 Free Delivery or In Store @ Anaconda

80

Much cheaper than a Solo Stove or the otherwise competively priced Kegland version.

Not stainless steel outer but I personally prefer the black. Feels much more substantial than the low smoke fire pits at bunnings.

Features
• Low smoke fire pit
• Powder coated matte black finish - High temperature resistant
• 430 Stainless steel inner layer
• Steel outer layer
• Easy to clean ashtray drawer

I think the steel outer layer would be the biggest difference between the Solostove and this. I've had the Solostove for a few seasons now, and the grate has some oxidisation on it, the main body is free of rust - and it's been sitting in my damp shed a lot of the time.

Obviously this is way cheaper and for the price of a Solostove, you could replace one of these several times. But if you want something that is going to last for more than a few years, this may not be it.

    • How well do they work.

It burns hot and clean because it’s pulling air up through the bottom and through the holes at the top of the double wall. With decent firewood, it’ll be basically smokeless. The downside is it goes through wood like crazy because it burns so hot.

        • Bit of a silly question but does a solo stove radiate enough heat to keep people sitting around it warm? I've read a few comments on Reddit where people complain that it looks great but doesn't really provide much warmth.

@eswes: It gets nice and hot when it gets going, I've a bonfire and had 7 blokes around it in my backyard without complaints. Most were drunk however so perhaps that was that

@eswes: Yeah, it gets plenty hot. No complaints here.

You do need to feed it enough to keep it hot enough to keep it sucking air in, which in turn makes it burn hotter.

    • I think it'll be alright actually. Outer layer is decently thick and a bit insulated from the real high temps by the air gap to the inner skin - and allegedly high temp powder coated.

I'd guess a bigger risk would be the inner stainless layer being lower quality or something and eventually rusting, in theory it'll be fine but time will tell.

This is kinda ugly IMO. I just want a nice simple rusticated steel fire pit at a decent price. Most of the ones in Bunnings are total garbage and prices are extortionate. I remember last year they were clearing them out once winter was over, half of them were broken.

I've been using the drum from my previous washing machine for around the past 2 years and it's still going great.
No ashtray drawer, but pretty much the same features as this one. It even has a nifty concrete block it sits on that came out of the washer so it doesn't roll down the hill.

  • The smoke must flow.

  • drum from my previous washing machine is good. i find it gives out lot of smoke. not sure how to fix this issue, maybe need to drill holes on the bottom or cut out a side hole for a tray to empty instead of tipping it on its side? how easy is it to cook on top of the Dune Low Smoke Fire Pit?

Yep, needs more airflow. Keep drilling 20mm holes until it burns clean
