  • OzBargain's favourite frozen pie?

Sounds random. National Pies vs Four'n'Twenty on Ozb.

  • Dumb question - are these fresh or frozen. My local WW states they sell them (single versions anyway) but I've never seen them.

I tend to make my own now anyway after Harbert Adams went downhill but am keen to try these.

    • Depends

At one Woolies I go to it’s in the open fridge , so not freezer. At the other it’s in the freezer section.

At Costco I saw them in the open fridge (so again not frozen)

    • +1

in my WW it's at the end of a open fridge amongst the raw meats, which is pretty much the opposite side from where the rest of the pies are

      • +2

Thanks - I see Garlo's in mine but they still they're in stock. Will checkout next visit.

BTW - had Garlo's low fat versions a few days ago. Never again. The filling was "ok" but the pastry was terrible, flat, hard and tasteless.

        • +2

Garlos fresh has NSW, National pies only in freezer in nsw

    • looking at the woolies app
single pies are frozen, multipacks are in the deli.

As I said to Jimothy below, try the Aldi 2pk frozen pies.

  • +4

I don't rate these pies. Watery over-seasoned mince.
    Not all that great

    • +4

Agreed, and the last one I had didn’t have a huge amount of filling. More pastry than filling

  • +2

    Showing as $7.49 for me?

    • +1

For me its saying "out of stock". Which is sort of right, isn't it. Beef pies ARE made out of stock. Or at least there's got to be some "stock" in them for them to be called beef pies.

    • They might be National pies but the offer is not. Title says QLD and SA only.

      • Title originally didn't specify states, it's been updated

  • Delivered fresh to store

Mostly not frozen (I've never seen them in the freezer section)… Best supermarket pies imo, but each to their own.

Unfortunately full price for me in Melbourne, maybe only half price in QLD?

  • I quite like these. Flavour feels a lot cleaner

  • +2

My current fav brand for supermarket pie. You can’t compare these to a good bakery pie fresh outta the hot box…

    • +1

try the Aldi 2pk pies, I reckon they're the best frozen pies. Butter Chicken & potato top are my 2 favs.

  • These are good, I like the sausage rolls too. I’ll see if I can find them for this price in store.

    • +1

Sausage rolls are probably the best you can buy, save for an extremely good variety…. Even better than the pies.

      • Couldn't agree more. The sausage rolls are great

      • Yeah the sausage rolls are great. I very often find them marked down in store. I think this is because they often show as unavailable online even when in stock.

  • First Woolies in Brisbane searched showed "unknown"
    Next store shows 5 varieties
Bigger local store shows 9 varieties (including sausage roll)
At 2 for $4 - will give it a try.

  • What happened to Sargent's pies? Couldn't find them anywher anymore :(

    • +2

      Long gone.

Industry Consolidation, aka buy up all the competitors and then dumb down the product.

Or look for "Synergies" in Consultant words.

  • Woolworths stores outside of QLD and SA are selling these for either $7.49 or $8.

Not true, they're half price for $4 in the deli section at my local in NSW.

    • That is good to know, because when I checked Town Hall, Wagga Wagga, Leeton, Queanbeyan, Alexandria, Roselands, Dapto, Warrawong, Dubbo, Tamworth, Glen Innes, Crows Nest, Tuggerah, Newcastle West, Warabrook, Broken Hill, Albury Central, Cooma, Bowral, Bega, Ulladulla, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie, they all showed as $7.49, $8 or not stocked.

Is there a part of NSW I did not check that stocks this at $4?

      • +2

Northern Rivers. Stores in towns such as Tweed Heads, Ballina, Lismore and Grafton have them in stock for $4.

  • How do these compare to Herbert Adams which are my goto. HA cost about $7 when they are on discount, so if these are 70% as good, would be worth spinning for

    • HA are $5.70 atm and at that price they are hard to pass up or beat.

  • Never even seen these in our local so no, not a favourite.

  • +1

Frank Walker should do ads for National Piiiies.

  • +1

Used to buy HA for years.
Picked up 3 packs in Brisbane - impressed given the price.
Will buy more. Plenty left on shelves.

Sausage rolls recommended by some are not on special - still $8😢
