  • Very easy to do.

    Thanks Op ☺️

  • Does it work only for Altitude rewards, or for Qantas/Velocity as well?

    • Also keen to know. I have a qantas one

    • +1

It asks for the card number as part of the process and will throw an error if it doesn't 'match'

    • +4

Eligible as long as it's a Westpac Black Mastercard credit card. I signed up with Westpac Qantas Black.

      • I have the StGeorge version with the same but not aligned to qantas or virgin so this is the default offer

      • +3

I'm pretty sure that it's meant to be the matching benefit for the non-Qantas/Virgin aligned Black card, but it also seems to work for me (Qantas Black) so who am I to complain.

      • +2

Yep I had the black Qantas card and signed up over a year ago. Card has been cancelled but my PP membership is still valid and I got 2 new visits added to my account.

Best use of the visits will be to spend the credit on food & drink at participating bars or restaurants. I've found the lounges I went to were pretty subpar so that's my plan from now on.

      • F me, brilliant 'find' Op… signed up with the Westpac Qantas Black
4 freebies/year, inc our famous lifetime- free Citi Premier.

        • Update: received physical card, took 4 weeks exactly.

Interesting they issue a physical card for Westpac by default, but Citibank is only virtual via App (despite asking for a physical card upon renewal)

    • +2

…confirming I got it with Westpac Velocity Black.

    • +2

Can confirm, just used the Qantas version of the card and signed up

    • +2

Can confirm I got it with Altitude Velocity Black

    • Yes, I hold altitude velocity black and it works for me.

    • Be mindful priority pass has a copy of your credit card. I took my kids in thinking they won't be charged. But they charged me without informing me. Found out in the statement.

  • +1

What if you already have priority pass via citibank premier? Former citibank signature card.

Would you get an additional 2 passes?

    • +2

Yes, I have generally used a different email id/user name to secure additional priority passes.

      • -2

        Thats new…

Used to have to setup multiple accounts…which I have 4.. (very confusing). Or signed up other family members.
Awesome if it can be rolled into 1 account now.

      • Does it mean I can give it to a family member?
Can you change and give to another family later on?

        • No it's tied to your name and the card.

    • sorry, I'm a real dummy… I had a citibank premier card, but that was moved over to westpac after the buyout, and I no longer have priority pass. Did I screw up somewhere?

      • +1

        the buy out?

Citibank platinum changed its name to premier. And it did change from VISA to MC. Not sure about the Westpac connection?

        Citibank plus went to NAB.

  • +2

Priority pass has somewhat unexpectedly came in handy on a bunch of occasions - lots of lounge entries and free food at the airport.

  • +1

I just closed my Westpac Altitude Qantas Black yesterday… Priority Pass lounges can sometimes be a bit of a hit and miss. At least it is a free option, so allows you to at least try it out without having to spend any money to enter the lounge.

    • Caution that your card will be linked for priority pass. Meaning if you are not legible for free entry, they will let you in without seeing the credit card and charge you later on.

  • Is platinum better than Black?

    • +1

Usually not. In most rewards credit card programs the Platinum tier is the middle option (or bottom even if they don't have a "basic" card) and then Black is the top tier. Whether signing up for a Black card instead of a Platinum is better for churn purposes is a different question and will almost definitely depend on your individual circumstances.

    • +1

Usually not, Black is a higher tier card, with more benefits, as well as higher annual fee. The rewards are generally better than a platinum though.

I have found that a Platinum actually suits me better, as all my expenses go on an AMEX, minimal purchases are on a Visa/MC, therefore the annual fee for a black isn't worth it. The extra benefits of the black have no real use for me, as I get all of that through my Platinum Amex.

    • +1

Platinum is min $6k credit limit. Black min $15k. Higher annual fee but better benefits on the black.

  • -1

I have to say, lounge access is so extremely hit and miss. I would save these for the very best lounges (if you travel a few times a year), e.g. Centurion lounges, and skip using them on stuff like the VA lounges domestically (unless you really like scrambled egg!).

    • +4

Priority pass doesn't give you access to the Centurion lounge, nor the VA lounge. At Sydney it is only for Plaza Premium, or "The House" in T1, as well as Rex in T2

      • +1

RIP, must've used my AmEx for that then. Still, the plaza premiums (generally) suck so bad. I went to around 6-7 of them last year and they were all awful, and left me thinking geez i'm glad I didn't pay for this

        • +1

When I went to Plaza Premium at T1 last month, they told me it was at capacity and instead gave me access to the Skyteam Business lounge downstairs. That is arguably the best "Business" lounge at Sydney international, apart from The Emirates Lounge/Qantas First.

  • -2

I believe the annual fee is free for first year only and then there will be USD99 charges per year. Can someone please confirm it?

    • Will let you know in a year's time.

    • +2

as long as you have your westpac card it's free. 2 visits every year.

      • Thanks for your reply.

  • +1

Its part of the signup perks when you take out the card no?

Its not a stand alone offer.

    • +2

It isn't mentioned with the Westpac Altitude Qantas Black, only the 2 Qantas Club Lounge Invitations. So this is a nice bonus.

    • +1

It’s for people who don’t elect qantas or virgin alignment, I think the OP found a loophole

    • Yes its a standard part of the credit card, just like many other cards.

  • Thanks OP - travelling next week!

  • Will they link to my name on the credit card or can I throw this to someone else?

    I already have unlimited PP

    • +2

I just tried to link my card to my parent's, no issues so far

      • HI Did this work? Do you reckon the parents can use the priority pass card that they get issued without the westpac credit card during lounge visits? This would be great if it worked.

  • +1

I am getting an error when I try an sign of with my velocity black card. Anyone else in the same boat?

  • When I login, it says my PP membership expired in 2019 but I've always had a Westpac Alt card. Anyone know how I can re-commence it? I have updated my CC details in PP but that hasn't triggered it.

    • Hi @DarkDawg did you manage to renew the card? Could you share how you did please? My one is expired last year and I still have my Altitude Black. Thanks.

      • Yes I did. I think I just re-did the sign up process from scratch and used the same email and it wasn't smart enough to realise I already had an account so it let me create it again under the same email but with my new card details.

        • Perfect… thanks for the info. Just about a time before travelling :-)

  • Wow never knew i had access to this. Velocity Black

  • Is this NEW benefit???

  • Is westpac platinum eligible for this offer?

  • Are you sure extra entries are still $US27? My Citi PP charges $US35 these days… (EDIT $US32 now it seems)

  • Can you include your wife and kids for free, or you have to pay 3x27$ for them?

    • +1

you can take a companion but they need a pass / pay

      • dependents are companion?

        • +1

It depends on the policy for the lounge.

Some charge for dependents and some have varying ages below which it is free.

  • Wow, great deal/perk. Just signed up on my Altitude-aligned black card.
    Thanks OP!

  • Sometimes you can request a refund on the annual fee for cancelling these cards early.
Does anyone know if it makes a difference that you've claimed things like free lounge passes?

    • +1

Not for Westpac. Funnily, I cancelled my card two years ago and they're still giving me 2 free lounge passes via Priority Pass per year.

      • Have you actually used them?

I had unlimited Priority pass through the AMEX Platinum Charge card. Which was closed, but I Activated Priority pass on my Platinum Reserve, which comes with 2 entries.
When I log in to the Charge card PP account, it still shows active with unlimited visits.

But recently I tried to use it instead of the one via the reserve card but the machine didn't like it.
A few seconds later, I got an email from AMEX saying something along the lines of "There had been a payment authorisation attempt on a closed credit card which was denied. Please update your direct debit payments bla…"

So I'm guessing at the time of entry PP does a check to see if the card is still active.

        • +1

Note that cafes only accept non-Amex PP.

          • @bruceclipse: Yup, this wasn't a cafe. I could use the other PP account to gain entry.

        • +1

Yep, used the 2 free passes last Dec in Taipei, more than a year after I closed the card.

  • +6

I have unlimited visits with +1 guest already so won't benefit from this, but wanted to let everyone know that it's worth noting this works for more than just lounges. Check the app, many cafes/restaurants will give you $36 worth of food and drinks for free. Sure, it's overpriced airport food, but when you don't have to pay a cent for it, it makes everything better.

(If you have the +1 guest perk, you both get $36 worth of food for $72 total)

    • +1

Agreed. I have the unlimited + 2 guests. People often think I am crazy ordering so much food at the airport lol.

    • What gives you that benefit? I have Priority Pass through Amex Platinum, but I can only access the lounge not any restaurants within the airport

      • +3

Citi Prestige US version of the card.

        https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/citi-prestige
Aus version gives you self + 1 guest only

      • +1

If you are enrolled with PP, then you can navigate to the Eat or Experience section inside the app to see what nearby restaurants are on offers other than lounges. You can choose to eat and redeem from there.

        Example:

        Sydney KS restaurants

        Terminal 1: Mach2, Peroni bar
Terminal 2: Bistro Bar 2020, The Fat Yak
Terminal 3: Luke's Bistro & Bar, Wok on air

    • It’s even better than this, you can go to multiple cafes.

I had a travel companion at Adelaide airport so it was 72 per cafe/restaurant and there are three of them.

If you have unlimited PP+ guest that’s $216 worth of free food.

  • Hi OP,

-> 2 x complimentary lounge passes per year, with extra entries at US$27/head.

The extra entries look a bit cheaper. Is there any fee reduction per head? Last few months ago, I paid around ~USD35 per head.

    • You're right, it's $35USD per head. Description corrected!

  • Anyone tried to sign up additional cardholders for a separate membership? I.e. can two adults obtain four passes from two credit cards linked to the same account?

  • how to use cancelled card expired date

  • Hey there! I have a couple of questions about lounge access. If I travel from Australia to an international destination, can I access the Australian Lounge when departing and the International Lounge when returning, or is there only one access for each (either in Australia or at the international location)? I'm planning a trip at the end of the year and will have a layover of about 5 hours, so I'm not sure if the lounge access is valid for the entire trip or just a one-time situation.

Also, does anyone have experience with the AMEX lounges? What is the entry process like? I currently have a card, but it will probably be expired by the time I travel. I'm concerned that they might not let me in if the card is expired.

Additionally, anyone using the above method can get free travel insurance, but you have to input your details via the Westpac link on the account page for it to be validated.

  • Anyone else getting an error trying to sign up? Imagine if the error was more helpful….

"Only retail members may opt in/out of receiving a physical directory."

    WTF lol

  • Signed up for Priority pass and logged in to the account. I can lot of lounges per each airport, how do I book/prebook any lounge?

  • I've never been in the demographic that had access to these lounges. How do they work? I can see there's food venues where you get a voucher but what about the lounges? Is it free entry into those and is there free food? E.g. the plaza premium international lounge, says soft drinks but nothing about food

  • Thanks Op, got my priority pass. Whats the difference between priority pass lounges and qantas lounge??

    • +1

It probably varies considerably. In my experience, priority pass lounges aren’t very good. It’s basically just somewhere quiet to sit that others don’t have access to.

The drinks on offer is basically a self serve coffee machine and filtered water tap, and food is prepackaged biscuits (if you’re lucky).

It puts very little shade on Qantas Club.

      • +1

Not my experience travelling overseas. Pretty sure all of them had alcohol and some lounges are excellent. Self serve buffet type food, some will have cocktails. Definitely a nice way to spend the wait.

        • I used mine in Bali. No alcohol, but the food was ok

      • +1

Agreed, I've been to some incredibly nice and fancy Priority Pass lounges and some terrible ones. You kinda have to look on the Priority Pass site for what options you have for the airports you'll be going to, then you get a general idea on what's on offer or if it looks any good. Direct airline lounges are more better in quality generally.

  • Hi all, has anyone had any issues signing up to priority pass using Altitude Velocity Black? I'm trying to create a new account as my old one was tied to a citibank card but when I enter the card details (payment card number), I get the error "Bank card has failed verification". Could it be that they've fixed the loophole?

  • I've had a Platinum for the longest time, is Black worth it? I don't suppose I can just upgrade, I'd have to get a completely new card, right?

Planning to travel to Europe at the end of this month and some lounge access might come in handy

    • +1

You can call the bank to request a change of card type, but they might need to reassess your income/expenses if they need to raise the credit limit to meet the minimum limit of the black card.

This level of membership with the black card gives you 2 complimentary lounge entries, additional entries are chargeable at ~$55AUD ($35USD) per visit. If this is the only reason you want the black card then you should consider the additional annual fee vs. what you are currently paying with Platinum.
IMO it's probably not worth it. Often lounges will turn away priority pass cardholders if the lounge is near capacity in favour of full paying lounge members/airline alliance guests.

  • Users have reported that the priority pass membership is still valid for cancelled Westpac credit cards

dont understand how this would work as any charges (e.g. guests) would be applied to the westpac card. Inadvertently got charged - guest fees depends on lounge! First time - 2 pax, used 1 visit, guest was free. 2nd visit, guest was not free :S. Some lounge has free guests so you can use this as 2 visits (instead of 1 visit with 2 pax)

    • Just signed up successfully using my closed Westpac altitude black Qantas card. On my app it shows I have no annual fee + 2 visits available.

Will just need to be careful to make sure I don't incur any charges which would be put onto the (now cancelled) card as it won't be worth the potential hassle it'll cause.

      • yes i know, but im just saying - any charges you DO (carelessly) incur will be put on the now (cancelled) card as you mentioned. be curious to understand how that would work if that happens.. The charges isn't even immediate, took a week for the charges to show up - they do not swipe your cc at lounge entry.

  • Just tried with a altitude platinum and no luck. says enter valid card number. RIP :"(

  • Does anyone know if these lounges in Tom Bradly terminal in LAX?

  • Can you bring dependent children for free? Or have to pay $35 extra?

    • It depends on the lounge (some might be free under 2 or under 5 etc). Always best to ask the question.

  • +1

Not shitting on this deal but priority pass is pretty useless these days, considering how overfull airports are. Have tried to get into these lounges on several occasions and can't get in as they are full. YMMV of course.
