I normally buy Ajinomoto MSG Seasoning 500g for $5 but they tripled the price

I haven't tried this one but should be the same shit that gives people headaches or whatever. Not saying some people legit are allergic, or have a physical reaction to MSG, but it has been proven to be safe and is in everything.

The Lucifer's sugar in the Westerner's mind!

Can you snort it? Asking for a friend

    • +3

      Sure.

    • +1

Yes. Answering on behalf of my friend.

  • Great on your popcorn to help keep you awake during a movie marathon.

    • Why would it keep you awake?

      • +1

I find if I eat anything high in sodium it has the effect of preventing me from sleeping properly. Dunno if anyone else experiences the same. YMMV

        • +1

100%. As i get older, the appeal of anchovies on pizza lessens as the poor sleep afterwards justnisnt worth it!!

    • +4

And I am sure you are okay eating foods naturally high in msg. 🙄

        • +10

It is chemically identical to natural msg. This myth has been scientifically refused over and over.

    • +1

      Racism in a comment

    • +5

      Hayaaa, why so wik

    • -1

Did you ever stop to think the headache came from the copious amounts of salt that you are also consuming in "MSG added" foods like asian takeaways?

  • +1

This is great ! My aunt only likes the powder one but not the Ajinomoto's crytal texture, been looking for them everywhere since Asian shops don't sell them anymore.

    • Yeah, powder is easier to snort.

      • +1

i dunno, crystal is another level

        • nah, fishscale

          • -1

@rosebank: I am always whipping this… Msg… on my stove

  • +13

    @Uncle Roger do you approve?

    • Niece and nephew 1 kg only good for one week with halal pork

He is responsible for the tripling of price mentioned by OP.

  • +9

Nice find! I might finally be able to appreciate the Mrs' cooking

  • +13

This has been a staple in many cusines for long time, but outside Asia it used to be demonised and people still get phantom headaches from it.

Reminds me of those European mums genuinenly scared for their children dying of pneumonia if they don't put on scarves, while Aussie kids go to school in shorts in 5 degrees.

    • +2

Haha we had a friend who got into that hysteria as a kid when it was all in the news. Was definitely way blown out of proportion then. And he also lives off spicy instant noodles and other asian food now, the stuff that has MSG in.

    • and yet if aussie kids go swimming within an hour of eating they will most certainly sink to the bottom and drown!

      • +1

        Organs will explode

  • +2

Taking your cooking to the next level. ;-)

  • 1kg…yum!

  • +2

    So cheap ungle roger.

  • +1

Always add a little bit of "yum yum"… courtesy of Uncle Roger and DimSimLim

    • +1

Just FYI, YumYum that DimSimLim always talk about is actually not pure MSG. It is a product he created that mixes salt, pepper and MSG.

      • It also has mushroom powder

        • Isn't that basically just a lot of extra (naturally occuring) msg?

          • +1

@TEER3X: Mushroom bouillon adds a different flavour. I have mushroom bouillon powder purchased from my local asian grocer. It's fantastic and rich in umami but far less versatile than MSG.

      • +1

I always thought it was msg and DimSimLim didn’t want to say msg on his videos!

  • +1

    UNCLE ROGER APPROVED.

    • +3

      Fuyoooooooooooooh

  • +3

Been cooking with MSG for a few years now- it's brilliant. No complaints from anyone. For the majority of people affected, but like the taste, they can take two placebos before a meal and it will counteract the MSG nasties, so they can enjoy the meal.

  • Looks like it just sold out.

  • OOS

  • +3

    Fuiyoh!

  • Elburritomonster puts this on everything.

    • Even steamed hams?

  • +2

Very cheap at Asian grocers. Get the Indonesia made Ajinnomoto. It will be of similar price for 1kg.

  • Thank you for posting OP
Uncle Roger will love this ! :P

You're on your way to achieve your Uncle/Auntie title.

  • my mouth is bone dry now just from reading this deal…

      Naturopathic. Lol

    • +3

      Different point of view:

From a "naturopathic doctor". We don't call it "different". We call it "alternative".

Why would you follow her business?

      • Naturopathic and doctor don't belong in the same sentence unless they are also a doctor by training

        • Seems that person is a self-proclaimed doctor.

    • Oh my god, it creates a man-made additive because it's processed! Must be bad eh? Don't cook your meat! That Maillard reaction is a man-made additive! The salt you're ingesting? Unless you've gone and licked it off a salt flat, it's a man-made additive!

FFS, these naturopaths are something else.

      • -8

Unless you've gone and licked it off a salt flat, it's a man-made additive!

Not really, but you do you…

        • Read the criteria from the posted article. Essentially, they claim that if it goes through any sort of processing that changes the original material, it's a man made additive. Even table salt goes through processing for purification, iodising etc.

            • @jv: Blame Dr. Melina Roberts for the use of that term. She's clearly internalised misogyny so deeply that she isn't aware she's doing it. Either that, or it's only men that do nasty things to food.

      • That Maillard reaction is a man-made additive

What about the crunchy flavour it gave the wooly mammoth when lightning struck it.

Before they invented fire the cave people couldn't get enough of the unexplained crunch

    2018 -
"In many countries MSG goes by the name “China salt”. Beside its flavour enhancing effects, MSG has been associated with various forms of toxicity (Figure 1(Fig. 1)). MSG has been linked with obesity, metabolic disorders, Chinese Restaurant Syndrome, neurotoxic effects and detrimental effects on the reproductive organs."

    2019-
"Critical analysis of existing literature, establishes that many of the reported negative health effects of MSG have little relevance for chronic human exposure and are poorly informative as they are based on excessive dosing that does not meet with levels normally consumed in food products."

    • longitudinal data for most food ingredients are sparse

    • +4

What is this TLC you speak of? How much do you use, 1 for 1 replacement for MSG?

      • +2

What is this TLC you speak of?

        Thyme, Lemongrass and Coriander.

      • +1

I don't want no scrubs doing the cooking

    • +1

Or perhaps do all of the above and use MSG as you would salt, pepper etc. i.e. as appropriate to enhance the flavour. Nobody is claiming MSG makes bad food good.

      • -4

and use MSG as you would salt,

Unless you are allergic to msg.

        • +1

You not read the "i.e. as appropriate to enhance the flavour." bit? If you're allergic, it wouldn't be appropriate.

          • -1

            @banana365:

            it wouldn't be appropriate.

            fair enough…

        • +1

I'm only allergic to the msg I get from you on this website.

          • -2

@zzymurgy: I don't sell msg. That would be irresponsible.

    • If you need this for cooking then your skill sucks, learn to use proper ingredients

Do you add salt to your food?

      • I guess flavour enhancers are cutting corners, I better throw out my spice rack- I didn't realise I was such a rookie.

  • mmm MSG

  • Uncle Roger approves - but then again, he is a bit of a tw@t

  • Don’t eat spoonful of MSG or table salt every day , you’ll be alright.

  • OOS :(

  • Msg is in so much food I don't see what people fuss about

    Just written in different forms

Msg can be used to lower sodium content in food. Salt is a flavour enhancer just like msg is

Laoganma is S tier chilli sauce and exceptionally popular .. it has msg in it

    carcinogenic 💀⛔️🚫
If not sure ask from a street food eater from a developing country!

    • I think you will find western diets eating highly processed trash have higher rates of cancers

I would expect Asia to have higher levels of cancer due to smoking (anecdotal observations based on the rate of smoking in Asia versus 1st world western countries)

      • Yeah I agree with that, but the people I said know it better as their close ones have suffered a lot from eating those foods for a long tim.

  • Doh out of stock…

  • Unless you have truck loads of msg you're probably unlikely to have any long term serious health conditions
