Do Aussie Broadband and Superloop Allow Port Forwarding?

I just received an email from Origin Broadband saying they are incresing the internet price and now removing additional $15 discount (Bundle Plus) that had been applied in the last few years. Initially, i was verbally informed that Bundle Plus discount would remain with my account as long as i keep my energy and internet plan bundled, but i guess they now changed their mind. I cannot find the fine print of this anywhere, so challenging may be a waste of time.

Up until today, the $25 bundle discount (standard $10 + $15 Bundle Plus) made Origin Broadband's price very competitive. However, with the price increase and removal of the Bundle Plus discount, the new price is no longer attractive. If anyone is on the same boat, are you challenging their decision of removing discount? Do you have any proof of the T&C of the bundle plus discount?

Now, i am looking for a new ISP. I have two ISPs in mind, Aussie Broadband and Superloop.

All i need is an option for port forwarding.

I remember Aussie Broadband used to allow its users to opt out of CG-NAT, so we can access our local network with port forwarding. Do they still allow this?

If anyone is using Superloop, do they offer a similar equivalent?

Thanks

Yeah by default superloop uses CG-NAT. However you just need to contact them and ask them to switch it off, they do it within minutes and it is free.

    • Aussie also uses CG-NAT by default, opt out via phone support.

The price change is probably because Origin Broadband are moving from Aussie BB to Superloop to supply nbn.

Aussie BB and Superloop use Carrier Grade NAT by default. You can ask them to turn CG-NAT off for $0. If you switch between Aussie BB and Superloop you have to get CG-NAT turned off again.

Thanks. Just checked the price of Aussie Broadband and Superloop. Price of Superlook seems more appealing, so i guess i will go with superloop.

I heard the contract between Origin Broadband and Aussie Broadband is ending, so Superloop will be providing the internet on their behalf. So i was kinda expecting price drop, not increase. I was really surprised Origin decided to increse their future price as Superloop's price is lower than Aussie Broadband.

Yeah Superloop are cheaper. Aussie is $15-$20 more on the sub 100Mbps speed tiers but only $10 more for 250Mbps and Gigabit with the 12 month EOFY deal. Leaptel is another option for 12 month deals.

Superloop ask for 30-days cancellation notice. I don't know if this is still accurate but as of 2023 the Superloop tech support was in Adelaide and sales team is in Sri Lanka. Aussie BB sales and tech support is in Victoria, you can cancel whenever and get a pro-rata refund. Leaptel is also in Victoria.

        • Thanks for the heads up for the cancellation. I did not think 30 days notice would still be required with superloop.

          • @Summoner: Superloop never used to but now they do.

I'm using More Telecom which does not have CGNAT (by default). If you got Commbank Yello, there's a pretty good deal for members (30% off for 12 months)

    • Thank you i will check them out :D

  • superloop allows you to opt out cgnat. takes 10 mins. call them. thats it.

  • Even with CGNAT you can use PCP

  • Be ware that there is a difference between DCHP allocated public IP (aka non CGNAT) and a fixed IP for port forwarding. DHCP allocated does not allow external access using the same IP address forever.

Most RSP's allow you to opt out of CGNAT, but some of the top 3 do not. All decent ones give you the option of paying extra for a fixed public IP per month.

    • Thanks for the comment. Yeah, currently origin does not allow you to opt out of cgnat even thought it was managed by Aussie Broadband. So i was stuck with their Bolt on fixed IP.

However, if i decide to proceed with other ISP, i am planning to use free DDNS, so i have that covered.

    • One of the reasons I've been with Exetel for over 20 years now. That said the pricing for Superloop 1000/50 has me trying to find out how much for a static IP from them.

      • Exetel also have 1GB plans if you call the sales line. No idea $

  • disabling CG-NAT or getting residential static ip won't unblock all ports with ABB

you can call them up disable port 80, 443, 25, etc…

can you do this with superloop? considering changing since the price increase announcement

  • Superloop charge $5 per month for static IP according to their support https://support.superloop.com/article/Can-I-get-a-Static-IP-…
