$99 PER MONTH PLAN(T) MIN COST $2376 OVER 24 MONTHS

    • +1

      ETC is probably more important.

      • +2

        $800 ETC on a $99 plan?

        • +2

          That’s correct

          So if you’re terminating early it’s essentially a bonus $400 off :)

          • @BargainsGrabber: looks like they have closed the loophole. party over.

Used to get things at JB for (899-1400)/1400% off.

            • @[Deactivated]: Are you able to share your experience?
An employee commented on the current JB deal that the loophole still exists and many have been successful too

                • @[Deactivated]: What do you mean no idea? You said the loophole is closed but that statement is inaccurate

                  • +1

@BargainsGrabber: FFS, read the next post below.

                    • +1

@[Deactivated]: Apologies, I did see it, but still an interesting that JB plans say otherwise

                      • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Both have updated their banner as far as I am aware. Checked both a few mins ago.

Having said that, either they have implemented/updated back end system so that ETC is adjustable to close to this loophole, or not worth the paper its written on.

Would be keen to know about someone's first hand experience.

                        • @[Deactivated]: Yup :’(

Was going to head in to do the iPad deal today but don’t want to risk it now

This is definitely new on JB

Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra or Boost). The JB Hi-Fi Gift Card (referred to as the “JB Hi-Fi Voucher” in the Telstra Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be available to you instore after connection approval by Telstra. The $700 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other JB Hi-Fi mobile or broadband offer. Gift Card subject to Terms and Conditions. Gift card offer ends 5/06/24.

                          • @BargainsGrabber: Can always pull out before signing ;) just ask about the infor upfront before you sign.

                            • @[Deactivated]: Can confirm it’s still ongoing (at least for JB), the comment below relates to the “voucher” section of the CIS, not the repayment fee

                              • @BargainsGrabber: Is the voucher repayable if terminating the following day or amount in the CIS? The fineprint reads as the voucher amount instead of $800 for the $99 if cancelled.

                                • @[Deactivated]: Payable within the same month, about 2 weeks
I have received the invoices to pay in my Telstra account for the JB plans

                                  • @BargainsGrabber: But if you terminate, do you pay $800 for the voucher fee or $1400 upsizdd voucher fee.?

I used to sign up, get $1400 voucher/GC, call up to cancel the same day, and get a bill for $800+99.

                                    • @[Deactivated]: This

I used to sign up, get $1400 voucher/GC, call up to cancel the same day, and get a bill for $800+99

Whatever on the basic CIS, this hasn’t changed for a long time

                                      • @BargainsGrabber: Nice. Loophole is still there despite what the fine print says.

      (D) Available to port-in and new customers only (excluding JB Hi-Fi Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra and Boost). The Good Guys Digital Gift Card (referred to as “The Good Guys Voucher” in the Telstra Terms and Conditions) will be issued to you by email within 5 business days of connection approval by Telstra. The $1000 The Good Guys Digital Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other The Good Guys mobile or broadband offer. Gift Card subject to Terms & Conditions.

      • Looks like they have caught up.

However, I dont know if it is legal given it is not in the critical information summary.

Edit: found a summary of the CIS on whirlpool https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/cis

Would be good for someone to report back and see if it is indeed the "discounted" amount.

      • So in effect if JB HiFi offer a $1400 Gift Card (Which they probably will in July on an S24 Ultra based on previous years sales) then if I cancel on day 1 I have to pay back the $1400. Previously it was just the $800 as per the CIS.I think this sounds better for them but of course covers the loophole that existed.

  • The Good Guys Mobile and Broadband uses the full geographic coverage of the Telstra mobile network.

Does that mean it's like OG Telstra and (Telstra's) Boost, or is it more like Aldi, which uses Telstra's network, but the coverage isn't the same?

There used to be a difference, last year at least.

    • I was previously on Telstra via JBHIFI, then swapped to Telstra via Good Guys. Haven't noticed any difference in terms of quality/connection. I do recall reading some forum comments awhile ago saying the service was inferior to proper full Telstra connection but not sure if that's true or not.

      • I wouldn't expect any difference in a populated area. But may differ when you go outside the city and get "SOS only" on your phone. So there is reception, but not for you.

        • +1

Thats not generally how it works for 2nd tier providers on the network.

You will always get the benefit of reception and coverage of the Telstra network.

Where it falters is in area's or times of demand. If its busy you get throttled and speed/connection drops down, whilst they prioritise the first class actual Telstra customers.

          • +1

            @TheGiant: Thanks for explaining.

I had impression I saw multiple discussions on OzB about the actual coverage, not quality of the service, when I was moving to Boost.

            • +1

@pizzaguy: As a Boost customer who has worked in mining and oil/gas in WA for years, I can attest to having low data throughput when being in remote areas with heavy demand above the usual (e.g. on a mine during a shutdown period when there are many more workers on site). However, I can't recall not having phone reception or SMS messaging available to me - just really slow data when there are a lot of other users, especially those who are direct Telstra customers (who get priority) I guess.

              • @thisisscotts: In those aforementioned discussions it was pointed out that Boost users specifically get all the benefits just like (direct) Telstra users. Because Boost is run (directly) by Telstra, not just their customer, like eg. Aldi Mobile.

                • @pizzaguy: Ok gotcha, my bad. Well if what I experienced on-site was what Telstra customers were experiencing, then I feel sorry for them!

                  • +1

@thisisscotts: Finally found a comment mentioning it:

any difference between woolworths and aldi mobile?

                    Reply:

Network-wise, no. Both on Telstra wholesale, which has poorer regional and remote coverage than Telstra retail (Telstra and Boost).

                    • +1

@pizzaguy: Roger that - good to know. Makes sense that Telstra would prioritise their customers over others, although I'm still surprised that Telstra and Boost customers should expect the same performance/experience. That said, I never had enough reason to change from Boost.

                      • +1

@thisisscotts: From personal experience, for as long as its full network access, all are the same.

Though, Telstra has been sht for some time now… not that the other two are better…

                        • @[Deactivated]: On Aldi, with a newly bought 5G phone I still only get 4G. So Aldi does not get the full coverage. I recall reading about this 1-2 years ago and indeed Boost was the only one apart from Telstra to enjoy Telstra's full coverage.

      • Given JB-Hifi and The Good guys are the same company I'd expect their MVNO to be identical.

    • +1

It's a Telstra retail plan. You will become a Telstra customer and get a Telstra login.

  • $1300 off Samsung S24 ultra range.

    • so if we take the 256GB, it is $2963 over 2 years. Is that correct?

      (1887 − 1300) + (99 × 24) = $2963

      • And 2 years of unlimited calls and plenty of data can be as cheap as $400-500 or less elsewhere (Aldi, Boost).

        • +3

yea, looks like it makes more sense to buy the phone directly from Samsung edu store for $1375 per the other post.

  • +2

I don’t know why these deals always end up like this meme…

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/430744/113178/img_0072…

If you terminate early, the payout is $800 per the CIS.
So you receive an S24/+ for $899 (includes the first month’s plan fee).
