A new record low price on this M.2 2230 sized SSD for anyone looking to upgrade the storage in their Steam Deck, ASUS Rog Ally, Surface Pro 9, X, Surface Laptop 3, 4, Laptop Go and more.

Edit: Now back instock for US$88.50 (~A$133.60) or US$86.52 (~A$130.62) with AliExpress Coins. Was US$92.04 (~A$138.84).

Since this is a Gen4 SSD you shouldn't use it with the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 7+ due to stability issues. Both of these have no issues with Gen3 SSDs.

This one offers a sequential read up to 5150 MB/s, sequential write up to 4850 MB/s and uses Toshiba BiCS5 112l or SanDisk TLC flash. Unfortunately 2230 sized SSDs don't have DRAM cache, but this one uses pSLC cache and HMB to make up for it so it's perfectly fine for gaming. Especially when a lot of other similar SSDs are QLC.

Nice, looks like my newly purchased ROG Ally will be getting an upgrade :)

EDIT: used SCA12, final purchase price was 144.02AUD Inc Tax.

Of course my 1TB 2230 just arrived yesterday.

  • +5

I paid $153 a few days ago, like a stooge.

Awesome, been considering upgrading my Surface Laptop 4… this price is a no brainer.

  • Work on the Legion Go? Easy to upgrade the Legion Go? Will it void the warranty?

    • +1

Will need a cheap adapter for it.

    • I 3D printed one.. works great :)

  • +2

I'm hesitant to buy things like this from AliExpress - does anyone have experience with this particular store? Are the items confirmed legitimate?

    • +3

This store is run by AliExpress and there's never been a case of any fakes.

      • +4

My biggest problem with purchasing electronics from AliExpress is the lack of any warranty or recourse past the initial 14 days… Got burnt once twice and now I am hesitant.

      • Awesome, thanks. Wasn't aware some stores are run by AliExpress themselves.

      • This store is run by AliExpress

        Really?
        Name: Cutesliving Store
        Store No. : 5250057

Wouldn't an "own brand" store be more like
        Name: AliExpress Tech
        Store No. : 3

@anonym: I presume it's to avoid angering other sellers as they would be competing against them?

            • +1

@eug: No clue. @Clear might have a better idea?

            • +3

@eug: Pretty much. They often sell products below cost as loss leading. Thanks Temu!

              • +1

@Clear: Hard to say why they are making it less obvious who runs the stores. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more to do with customers than sellers.

Note that Factory Direct and Cutesliving sell nearly exactly the same stuff. (There has been once or twice when I couldn't find the same product in the other stores.) Stock likewise is generally the same, once one runs out so does the other. But prices vary between them so you should always check both and see which one is cheaper. And one could be on Super Deals but the other might not be.

If you're doing special coin deals these can also vary. Actually in this case Factory Direct has a better 12% coins deal compared to Cutesliving 11% at least for me in NZ.

Probably not a coincidence but during sales they generally do the buy 2 for 5%, buy 3 for 10% specials on many items from those stores. But since these are per store, if you want to take advantage of them you need to buy from the same store, so it may or may not be better to buy from the cheaper store if you're also buying other items. (And you also have to consider the coin deals which cannot be combined except for multiple of the same items, and AliExpress coupons you might be just slightly short of etc.)

Other AliExpress stores I'm aware of are Digitaling (who sell buy 3 for X in NZ), Shop5370096 and AliExpress Collection but there is less crossover. And actually I don't think it's ever worth buying items from Digitaling's normal store front, only get them from the buy 3 storefront. You can get SKUs on the main Digitaling storefront not available on buy 3, but I'm fairly you'll find these prices better somewhere else.

I wonder how they came up with the name Cutesliving.

        • Translation app what else

    • I have been using this for my Steam Deck for a while now and haven’t had any issues. You will find others who have been happy with theirs too. Of course it will be nicer to have local manufacturer’s warranty, but you will be paying for a premium too.

    • +1

I bought multiple items from this store in the past. This store just seems to undercut other stores in terms of price. Bought multiple wireless cards, LAN cards from the store before. Awaiting a mini PC from the store currently.

If you are concerned or worried about after sales warranty, then probably don't buy.

  • +2

@GTG @drmarshall I believe this is something you guys have been looking for?

HODLING for a 4TB for a gaming pc.

  • +3

Any good deals on 2280 M.2s with a DRAM cache?

  • +1

Ps5 compat? I know the speed is not what Sony recommends, but will it work?

    • +3

No. Too short physically. You want a 2280 (22mm across, 80mm along)

      • +1

Or anyone with a handheld, laptop, or desktop PC made in the last 7 years who wants to upgrade their storage?

        • +1

Those SBC Linux such as raspberry pi, or rockpi. Mini PCs, Dell SFF optiplex deals that's pretty popular here. NAS boost cache. The millions of USB to M2 portable storage adapters. Yeah M.2 is mostly made for PS5 anyway.

  • Anyone experienced Aliexpress tracking issue from cashreward?

    • nope. but not finding that i can apply this code…

    • Yes, but I think it is an issue with AliExpress rather than cashrewards itself.

      • So raise a ticket everytime for inappropriate tracking?

        • I use to but now I cbf.

    • +1

No issues here. Make sure you always confirm your order once received as that releases the funds to the seller, the affiliate income is paid to Cashrewards and thus your cashback is confirmed.

      • It is the tracking issue for me. Cashrewards tracking from Aliexpress for me worked well since Feb. Every oreder was tracked. However, all my orders from Aliexpress were not tracked since last week…Both Cashrewards and shopback…

    • Adblocker?

  • This appears to be a laptop size M.2. SSD. I assume that it would also fit on a desktop motherboard if you change the spacing?.

    • +2

It's usually used by compact/slim laptops and gaming handhelds. If your motherboard doesn't have the right holes for 2230, you can get an adaptor.

      • Yes it's an M.2. 2230 which is much smaller than the standard size M.2. 2280. It's the smallest size M.2 SSD that there is by actual dimension size. That adapter may be required if your desktop motherboard can't accommodate it by default by changing the spacing to fit. It's some thing to keep mindful of.

  • Gen 4. Does this mean it's restricted and will only work in certain installations?

    • +3

Gen4 is backwards compatible with Gen3.

  • +3

thanks op - my final price was US $88.46 or 133.44 via paypal/credit card. Steamdeck is getting a nice big upgrade :)

  • -3

It looks cheap but I wouldn't buy storage and alike from AliExpress.
There is no way of knowing how good the memory chip is, sure it will work but how reliable??

Unless people bought this and did a true hardware check on the chip level which nobody does but check if it works and if the capacity match, you are taking risks.

    • +4

Yep tested and all good here mate. I wouldn't intentionally post something if I knew for certain it's fake.

      • That is awesome, will keep an eye on your future posts.

        Thank you

  • +1

Thanks, my final price came to US $86 with the use of coins and discount code, so effectively $129 AUD. Figure I can sell my 512GB SSD that came with my Steam Deck OLED for at least $60 on eBay so effectively $70 for a 2TB upgrade makes this it an excellent deal in my book. I also enabled cashrewards but not sure if I'll get the 4.5% cashback as I haven't yet received a confirmation email from CR which I typically straight after the purchase is made. Has anyone been successful in getting cashrewards confirmation email for this deal?

    • +1

didnt even occur to me that i could recoup some cost by selling the 512gb ssd! thx

    • Good idea! You sure that you can sell the 512 for $60 though?
I didn't sell mine thinking it wouldn't fetch a good price.

      • +1

$70 seems to be the going price if you look at the sold prices on eBay (SK Hynix branded ones which the Steam Deck OLEDs use) so yeah should get $60 easy

        • Nice! If I get to flip my 512, I'D buy a 3rd SN740 too.
It's a bit strange that people are buying 512GB for $70 without a proper warranty.

    • +2

I'm keeping my original in case I need to do a warranty claim. Don't want to send it back with a 2TB and get another 512GB returned if they replace the unit.

  • One of the reviews on the AE page says

"Disk speed, capacity are all good. The WD software recognizes the drive as valid, but the WD website won't register the drive due to an unrecognized serial number for this drive. The packaging is also poor."

    • +3

but the WD website won't register the drive due to an unrecognized serial number for this drive

That would be expected as the SN740 is an OEM drive. A genuine SN740 from my Dell laptop also fails to register on the WD website.

    • +2

The SN740 is an OEM model, that’s probably why. The retail equivalent is the SN770M and it’s priced higher.

  • +2

Final price usd86.52/aud130.52. time to swap out the 1tb in steam deck with this!

    • Same. Bought another for my laptop after replacing the one in my steamdeck previously after this since the performance is pretty good for the price.

  • Thanks.

Seen many deals for this, considered buying several times but realised I hadn't even filled the 512GB of storage on the current drive. At this price though, thought I'd finally pull the trigger.

    • I filled up my 512GB within the first day :( I like to bounce between games a lot though

      • Definately a sign you need more storage, maybe at least 2TB for games and daily use.

  • Why my final price is US $98.77? It includes US $10.07 tax.

  • In case someone is considering getting this for a Surface 7+ or 8, they ABSOLUTELY can be used, but you need to be comfortable doing some cmd line changes:
    See https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2024/01/01/upgrade-sl3-or-…

There are many, many threads about this.

  • US$88.50 (~A$133.60) Delivered

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate, GST inclusive, stacks with cashback and a further US$1.11 off with AliExpress Coins.

How are you getting that price inclusive of GST? My cart shows US $102.76 - US $12.20 with the coupon and 20c of coins + US $10.26 GST = US $100.82 which works out to something like $152 AUD.

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

    • Yes the deal is now expired.

      • Drat. The timing with the Steam Deck deal was too good to be true, unless you nabbed one of these beforehand I suppose.

Though, looking at past months, $152 isn't awful, just clearly not as good as this deal was.

      • the sale doesn't end till tomorrow?

        Coupon says "restocking"

edit never mind, realised the price actually went back up

  • Mine turned up today, packaging was a bit shit. Hopefully no issues when I do the replacement tonight.
