  • Can the base/router be used just as a point?
I already have the 3 pack, and need a couple more points to extend the range in my house.

    Thanks,

    • Do you have the same model?

        Excellent.

    • Yes and you can backhaul to it to get better speeds from other points.

Wow…. how big is your home? I'm in a average 4 bedroom house and my telstra gen 2 modem works great on terms of coverage for entire home.

Coverage doesn’t mean you’re getting good speed every where.

      • Agree, lucky that my router is in middle of house. So I still get 49 mbps on the corner of the house where bedroom is located.
My NBN plan is 50/20 with superloo6

    • how big is your home?

      Solid internal walls reduce coverage

  • Wonder if this is a better deal for around$160 or $130 with eBay plus, wifi 6 as well

Yes imo if you comfortable installing openwrt.

      • I am interested to get this D-Link one. Do you really need to intall the openwrt? Can you not just use the D-link firmware?
        Thanks

        • The reviews are hit and miss. The positive reviews maybe from people using newer versions of the offical firmware that fixed things.

You could certainly give the offical firmware a go.

  • Code needs to be eBay Plus member to use.

    • Thanks, updated.

  • I had this set and just had endless problems. my first set had constant drop outs where it would just drop the WAN. I tried changing between PPPoE and DHCP and both had the same issues, also, switching between PPPoE and DHCP (PITA when you want to swap providers) was a massive pain in the arse because the app would just become unresponsive and not save the settings. Got that unit replaced, my second unit, the mesh point constantly degraded to a point where it would go offline, I would just notice my throughput was terrible in the upstairs and eventually I was forced to reboot the mesh unit just to get reasonable speeds. The final nail in the coffin was recently my throughput was slowly getting worse and worse on my 100MBps connection, it ended up being throttled to about 60MBps, no amount of rebooting, factory resetting could fix it. Bought a TP Link Deco X50 and the speeds were close to 100MBps off the bat.

Really annoying experience, being locked to use the google home app to manage it was hugely frustrating too because at times it would just take forever to actually save settings.

  • I have this system and it has never missed a beat. Love that the mesh points are also Google home assistants. I'm always using them to play music.

If I had the choice between this and the new model I would still choose this one for the Google assistant in the speakers.

  • Can this be used a modem to connect to my NBN box? I need some better range at home and planning on ditching optus so need to bring a new modem along to my next provider.
