  • Energizer or IKEA rechargeable is better

Good deal if you don't live near an IKEA store. Otherwise I'd go for the 4 pack of Ladda AA batteries for $12 https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/ladda-rechargeable-battery-hr06…

I hear what you're saying, but I disagree, even if you live close to an IKEA.

For most people, I suspect getting delivery from Amazon is worth much more than the price difference. Say if you are buying 5 packs, purchasing from IKEA will save you $4.70 (compared to S&S price), and you're up for a bit of petrol money to travel to IKEA, and a minimum ~30 minutes of your time. Realistically, it takes 30 minutes to park at IKEA, walk through IKEA, and get back out of the carpark.

Only if I was already going to IKEA for something else, would I consider buying the IKEA batteries in preference to these.

        I beg to differ 🙇🏻

•Immediately buy $100 worth of AA and/or AAA mix and match, that $12 becomes $9. (AAAs are $8 shelf price)
•LADDAs are supposedly JAPAN made; better cells.

Tummy full and cheaper better batteries 💯

          Well, like I said,

Only if I was already going to IKEA for something else

If I was going to IKEA for lunch on a Friday, I'd have to take time off work. That costs more than I'd save.

The IKEA batteries may be better quality, but I've been using multiple brands of NiMh batteries for decades, that aren't eneloop nor IKEA brand, and they're still working. I think the "better quality" of eneloops and IKEA batteries is overstated, particularly as a significant number of OzBargainers will charge them in a dumb charger, and throw them out after three years because of the damage caused by the dumb charger.

I've even got ALDI NiMh batteries that still work fine, in fact I just charged some today, and that's a brand that seems to be despised here on OzBargain.

          • @Russ: @Russ can you please link me a smart charger? I've been using the $25 charger that I bought from Aldi 4 years ago.

            • @lordra: The Aldi chargers that I've seen are smart chargers, was it the one that could charge 6xAA batteries at once?

However, they all lack a proper display, that will tell you the capacity of a battery as a number. I find that feature really useful to know when my batteries need a bit of "maintenance", for example I find that using NiMh batteries in clocks and remote controls sometimes makes them "lazy", they don't accept a full charge. A couple of discharge-charge cycles on the charger restores them to close to their rated capacity. And few smart chargers have the ability to discharge the batteries.

I've been using the Liitokala Lii-500 charger for several years, and it has all the features you could want from a smart charger. I use it's "Fast Test" mode to recover "lazy" batteries, and also as the mode I normally use for charging, as it discharges each battery to flat, then charges it and tells you how many mAh went into the battery. It also has a longer, more accurate "NOR test", that charges each battery, then discharges it while measuring the mAh that came out of the battery, then charges it again.

Shopping for Liitokala chargers has two problems though: many sellers will sell you just the charger but with no mains power adaptor, and it's extremely rare to see the chargers sold with a mains power adaptor that has an Australian mains plug. I'm only aware of one seller who sells with an AU plug, here:

Currently says $41.99, and appears to have free delivery.

You may be able to taste horse meat too.
That aside returns are better with IKEA.

        • 32 batteries!?
OMG. Mate, that's you sorted for life!

  • Can these or the LADAA be charged with the Eneloop ni-mh charger?

    • +1

Yes. I charge mine with the smart charger. Works fine

    • Just be aware that not all eneloop chargers are smart chargers, most of the ones listed on OzBargain are "dumb" chargers, and they damage your batteries so you won't get the rated number of charges from your batteries. Typically, using a "dumb" charger will have you throwing out the batteries after a couple of years, due to the damage caused by the charger.
