Anko Magnetic Finger Grip Stand - Black or White $4 (Was $10) + Del ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass/ $60-$65 Order) @ Kmart & Target

170

Bought one of these today and glued it to the wall to hold my MagSafe Apple wallet above my keys.
Pretty damn strong magnets, was genuinely surprised for the brand. Tested it as a stand before gluing it to the wall and it worked rather well, but I don’t have a need for that.

        Genius.

        • I have my moments aha

@linkindan: Looks like a solid deal

          • @linkindan: This was clever. I don't have a wallet, but my phone case stores 3 cards at the back, seems similar.

            • @kiriakoz: What do phone you using? I have a Samsung S23 FE and for a magsafe case, then you can use any magsafe wallet, like Op. You can also charge through the case.

              • @pformag: Don't roast me too hard but I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I have a Bellroy case which allows 3 cards in the back. I like it because it negates the need for a wallet (I used to have a George Costanza - like gigantic wallet back in the day).

                  @kiriakoz: I’m on a 15 Pro Max, no case
I realised one day I was carrying my wallet all day and literally not using it cause nearly everything was on my phone. I set up two menus in Shortcuts, tied them to the action button and now all my cards are available in the Apple wallet or app shortcuts in a menu. I just keep physical gift cards and receipts in the magnetic wallet as I need

                  • @linkindan: Oh that's cool. I am practically the same. I have the 3 card case usually for physical cards plus I always keep one credit card just in case something happens to my phone (I don't remember the last time I needed to use that obviously).

I like the extra tip of tying the action button to Apple wallet as it is a bit finicky to use when I need it. Thank you.

@kiriakoz: I’ve tied the action button to a folder of shortcuts, which opens this menu and then the “Wallet” icon is a menu shortcut that opens this list which is full of shortcuts to apps that have cards/barcodes etc that can’t be added to the regular Wallet app

                      • @linkindan: haha, I was going to ask for this information but decided not to push my luck and figure it out myself when I get home. Thank you again.

@kiriakoz: I only found out how to do the first menu last month - the Shortcuts app is great, but requires a reasonable knowledge of scripting to get the most benefit

Happy to share the methods that make the phones even better - can’t wait to see a “Function” button turn up on Androids aha

  • How does the finger grip adjust? By twisting it?

    • It’s a sort of twist and pull motion, but I’m not entirely sure how I did it aha
I was fiddling with it and then it came out, then got it to go back down after playing with it for a bit

    • It's just a knock-off PopSocket - You can see how it works there

  • So that big oval part is magnetic?

I was thinking of putting that on my work cubicle (magnetic) and hanging my headset off that

    • +1

Yeah there’s a magnetic ring in it, same size as the MagSafe ring in iPhones 12 and onwards

    • +1

Might be late if you’ve bought it and it didn’t work, but I just remembered it was strong enough to connect to my phone and wallet through the packaging - might be worth trying to stick it to the cubicle and hang the headphones over the plastic to see if it holds the weight?

  • Nice one.
Looks like a pop socket clone.

I’ve actually been looking for just the plate bit to stick a flygrip to. Will take a chance to see if i can use this

    • +1

Ye, it's just a knock-off pop socket, but you can't switch out the tops. So if you need it without a top, you'll have to cut it off.

      • Thanks for the heads up.
At $4 I'm willing to give that a try :D

        • Just as a follow up, mine arrived.

you can pull off the pop-up part without cutting it (so that's good)

          BUT

it seems like while the magnet ring is pretty strong, the vertical magnet at the bottom is pretty weak, so the bottom can slide around (like rotating around the ring)

I am using a ESR plasticky case so maybe it would be better with a grippier case (eg. silicone)
          for $4 its ok

  • Strong enough to use on a selfie stick?

    • I’m not sure how you’d attach a selfie stick to the finger grip, but the packaging does specifically say not to carry the phone by the grip (although it is pretty strong)

    • +1

Finger grip comes off easily, and a hole can be drilled through the centre to fasten the MagSafe to something.
However, I'm not certain the the magnet is strong enough to be as safe as a clamp holder.

      • Yeah I wouldn’t be counting on it to be strong enough aha

  • Do MagSafe cases on phones that don't have MagSafe damage the phone?

    Because of the magnets?

    • They don’t damage it, but the compass won’t work because it hasn’t been calibrated to compensate for the magnets

      • Which means Maps will not know which way I'm facing?

        • It’s a strong possibility

          • +1

@linkindan: Thanks. I didn't even think about that. Here's hoping Samsung puts MagSafe on their Galaxy A phones one day.
