  • Bought this phone from JB Hi Fi having very poor battery life lasts only a day with moderate use

Just checked user reviews. Is this 8a? Unfortunately poor battery life seems to be an issue with 8 & 8 Pro too. Not good esp for the price they are charging

    • +1

I grabbed the 8a and it's better then my pixel 5 in terms of battery.

I'm at 89% at the moment with 1 day, 1hr of battery left!

My Pixel 7 goes hard for two days. Strange. I guess it could depend on a range of factors.

    • Check battery usage by app. There was once an issue with Spotify draining our Pixel 7's battery rapidly. Uninstalled it and the issue disappeared. Eventually reinstalled Spotify again and no issues since.

    • Did you find a solution, battery life is really poor. I don't even have any additional apps installed apart from standard google ones.

      Disappointed with pixel 8a.

    thanks op. bought the 8a.

  • Is anyone else still getting an option to pay on repayments + points?

Eg, pay x amount of points and the go on 12/24 months repayment of device only with no plan?

I cannot see the option anymore, but it did used to be there

    • I don't have this option but don't remember seeing it before

    • +1

I can't see an option to use points. I have 100k points I need to use but the only option I have is repayments or upfront. No points option.

Edit: using the link on this page works, but going direct through the Telstra App doesn't give the option of using points.

Another Edit: using the link in the text in the deal above doesn't show the points option, but clicking on 'Go To Deal' does

One more bit of info. I dicked about for ages trying to get this to work but the Telstra site just sucks balls.
I tried ordering a case with the phone but it wouldn't let me use points if I ordered a case. So I had to order the phone separately, then when I went to order the case after it said it won't deliver to my location. Then tried again and said it would, but then the site kept erroring out. I tried variations of desktop browser website and app and it failed multiple times until one time it just worked. After many attempts I finally got an order through for the phone and case using points/cash mix, but had to do two separate transactions to get it to work.

      • @1st-Amendment Sorry to hear and didn't know the Telstra site is so bad. I would have probably given up earlier but glad that you persisted and ordered the phone and case in the end. Thanks for letting us know.

  • Is this definitely unlocked? I can see where it says so anywhere

    • Pretty sure all Google phones are unlocked

    • +1

It's unlocked if you purchase the phone outright. I checked with Telstra messaging today.

I also asked Telstra and they said it comes locked. So who knows the real answer. Maybe someone out there is willing to gamble $650 and try a non-telstra sim and report back

        • Oh no! Looking at previous Telstra posts here, when it's not written anyway, it appears the phones are not locked.

Would have to ask @PissLUR when the phone arrives if it's locked or not. Thanks

          • +1

@trixieb: All non prepaid mobile devices are unlocked. The only ones that are locked have 'Telstra' branding, usually prepaid devices i.e. Telstra Samsung Galaxy A15

    • +1

outright phones shouldn't be locked, unless its on a plan (sometimes telco doesn't bother locking them) or prepaid.

Good to know that the Pixel 8a goes for 650 already.

  • Did anyone else have issues with purchasing via the Rewards website? I don't have an 'add to cart' option - "You need at least 0 more points to redeem this reward.". I also tried purchasing it in store and the rep couldn't give me the phone for $649.

    • @driver9464 A purchase was made but with difficulty. The website is not working well.

Edit: Did you use this link: https://plus.telstra.com.au/rewards/explore/25226

I was able to add to cart and checkout with either the outright cost $649 or pay with points + $

      • Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I am getting the same result - "You need at least 0 more points to redeem this reward". I am a prepaid user and purchased a 7 day plan to get access to the Rewards/Telstra Plus membership portal. I wonder if the issue is related to this.

Also, FYI Google won't price match the Telstra store because they are not an "Authorised Retailer".

        • @driver9464 Has it been more than 24 hours since you signed up to Telstra? The website does not seem to recognise you as a member yet. Maybe try again tomorrow.

From Telstra website: Please allow up to 24 hours for your Telstra ID to be activated before you can join Telstra Plus.

Great deal using telstra points for me the 8a was almost free considering how easy you can earn testra points with some of there promos when you only need to subscribe for a x months. I recall sighing up for 5g home mobile getting 100k points then cancelling 3 months later due to low speeds , kept the points and the modem i sold for 400$ !

  • Is this deal dead? Checking the Store now and the 8a is $849

    • Unfortunately the deal for 8a ended early :(
8 is still available but it is cheaper at JB Hi-Fi if you don't have Telstra points to use
