FYI, this only works W Samsung phones.

      https://youtu.be/61_L4lO4cUI?si=G_UoVZoUqzKHD3-F

In Australia Samsung wins and outperforms Apple Airtags.

Too many unsubstantiated Apple fanboys posting shit

      • 2 years old. Things may have changed since then and I say this as Samsung S21 owner. I agree ref fanboy comment.

        • +2

Most work provided phones are Samsung in my experience. Very few jobs will provide an iPhone and that alone should more than tips the scales in favor of Samsung in this regard.

Remember, it works with Samsung phones. Not only Galaxy phones!

          • -1

            @educalifa:

Government workers are all getting iphones for *security"

            • +1

@Headless: I'm glad you used large fonts and bold or I wouldn't have understood it.

Also, not ALL government workers are getting iPhones. My gf works for the govt and was given a Galaxy 3mths ago, so I highly doubt this will change anytime soon

              • @educalifa: No idea how I bolded it, and forget to say Federal and state government workers

                • @Headless: You'd best tell those departments as they're not doing it. And given the utterly woeful security across a lot of them, worrying about which phone they use is like being concerned over which front door key to use while a JCB rolls over your house

            • @Headless: I have one for work but the software is ripped apart and is overlays with a VPN so doesn't run much of the original IOS. I also have a Samsung S22 ultra and these smart tags. I have competitions with my daughter and her air tags and the Samsung wins nearly every time.

      • +1

Just giving people heads up as google find my supported tags are available now and that's what I am waiting to buy.

  • +14

Going to hold out to see if these join the android find my device network.

    • +2

At the moment only two manufacturers make compatible trackers

      • Pebblebee
      • Chipolo
    • There are plenty of samsung phones around.

  • I hear people are saying these are now become as, if not, more accurate than the apple airtags - how true is this? I think iPhones are still the most proliferous

    • +2

until they can be used and sensed by any android device, not just Samsung, they will never compare to the Air tags

      • +2

Unfortunately, I have to agree…but seemingly it depends which country you're using it in
        Example

      • +7

they will never compare to the Air tags

        Source or just BS?

The internet is literally awash with people "never comparing them to the Air tags", to comparable results.

        • -3

simply, the pool of devices that can potentially help locating something lost is much smaller when you can only use samsung devices, compared to Apple

If they would be compatibe with Google find my device, the story would be quite different of course and the number would match or even exceed Apple's

          • +6

@liongalahad: Please share some evidence similar to this
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15340640/redir

Otherwise refrain from sharing your misinformation

            • -1

@0 0 0: Im not talking about accuracy, Im talking about the chances of someone pinging your tracker. Many more iPhones than Samsungs in Australia, simple as that.
Also, I am a non-Samsung android user, so personally I have zero use for Samsung tags.

              • +4

@liongalahad: Meh that's useless information. The point of pinging the device is to accurately locate it.
I think the test also evaluated actual Samsung users vs Apple users in a practical sense. You even your claim in unsubstantiated in real world usability results. Who cares if there's 1000 Apple users in the CBD vs 500 Samsung. The 500 Samsung still give enough coverage. The main point is also customer/device distribution. If all Apple users are in the CBD then the Airtags are only usable in the CBD. If you have greater distribution of Samsung devices then it doesn't matter about volume of devices, it matters about coverage.

                • -1

@0 0 0: Cool story bro! But they remain useless to whoever doesn't own a Samsung phone, which is over 70% of the population, in Australia.

                  • +3

@liongalahad: Still more useful than anything else. Only marginally ahead of Airtags but i wouldn't bother with anything else yet.

                    • -2

@0 0 0: Not really, unless you are the 25% of population who owns a Galaxy. Literally no use.

                      • +2

@liongalahad: That's where you're mistaken. It's not only Galaxy phones. Most Samsung phones will ping it.

                        • -2

@educalifa: Galaxy or not, doesn't matter, Samsung is just 25% of phones around. Eveyone else, 75% of phones in Australia, cannot use this product.

                • -1

                  @0 0 0: You're completely missing the point.

There are people who don't use Apple or Samsung phones.

You keep asking for evidence: I am literally a real world example of this.

My sister and I have LG phones and my mum has a Motorola phone.

Apple AirTags and Samsung SmartTags are worthless to us.

                  • +4

@brotherfranciz: Yep and I don't understand why you're posting in this thread then lol

                    It's like a [Targetted] promo.

            • -3

@0 0 0: Much like your misinformation of using a single example in Victoria being representative of the whole of Australia?

Before calling out other people’s behaviour, maybe look at the example you’re setting

    • +3

iPhones are still the most proliferous

      Reference check please.

      • +10

        Reference: Trust me bro

    • +3
    • +6

I have both, the Samsung works much better

    • Depends where you go, in Europe android rules the roost.

    • +1

These work better than air tags and you'll actually find there are more samsung phones than Apple. My daughter has air tags and i have samsung and mine out perform hers 9 out of 10 times at least.

    • They use UWB

  • +1

When the eff is Google going to make an Android tag that can be sensed by every android device, same as Apple Air tags work?
I find it amazing that in 2024 there's still no such product. Currently andorid users, including myself, are forced to use Tiles, which are lame compared to the Ait tags.
I wonder if it's something so hard to design?

edit: seems like Pebblebee's can currently do this already, it has been annonced just lats week https://help.pebblebee.com/article/p02yddq0tt-google-find-my…
    which is amazing actually

    • Looks like Pebblebee’s work with iOS as well.

      • +1

yep that's really good actually. So virtually any phone can ping to your tracker and send its location. It woul dmake it a lot better than the Air Tag even.

Had no idea this happened last week, it's huge news actually.

        • Probably wait a couple of months to see the shake out :)

        • My phone got the updated Google FindMy app via the play store two weeks ago. I think they are doing a low key rollout now and will launch their own tags later in the year.

Chipolo also makes compatible tags- Chipolo ONE Point & CARD Point .

The one small downside to the Pebblebee and Chipolo devices is that they are Bluetooth only rather than Bluetooth + Ultra Wide Band like the Apple and Samsung tags. UWB can help with location at short range.

    • Pebblebee and chipolo.

I pre ordered a chipolo last year but it was delayed until just recently because apple delayed their side of making notifications for Google the trackers following iPhones.

These are great for most of my uses - ie find keys / wallet / bag at home or track luggage at airport and play a sound track at request. Can track luggage all the way onto the plane and in one instance knew it had been left behind when taking off which saved a lot of time once arriving at destination airport.
Also have one on my keys - double press that and it makes phone ring loudly if I can't find that.

  • Any luck with other places price matching?

  • +1

these worked great for me as i was travelling around japan, definitely gave some peace of mind when i left my bags at the hotel for ta-q-bin

  • any comparison with airtag?

  • any deals on 1 ? cheapest I found is $35 https://www.centrecom.com.au/samsung-smarttag2-black-1-pack

    • +2

Price match at JB and pay with the discount gift card. Sign up to JB Perks to get an extra $10 code.

  • Can you track these if you're logged into SmartThings on a non Samsung phone? I have a Samsung account from a previous Samsung phone and seem to be able to log in on my Pixel.

  • i use it as a remote to turn off my TV when I am leaving home

    • you can use phone to control the TV remotely, I play random things on TV as a joke when wife is WFH

  • +2

The discussions about these are no good because they don't use the google find my device network is weird. `

Think of where you find these most useful - is it more that you've lost it and need to rely on other phones pinging it via bluetooth? then sure, it would be nice to have the google one available. Every samsung device post android 9.0 is still a lot of devices.

However right now, Chipolo and pebblebee do not have an UWB option. If you've lost it in your house or nearby, that indicator that not just it's near, but 5.5m away and off to the left is pretty awesome. Yes an airtag does have this too, but puts it in a similar level for airtags for actual accuracy - locating a tag that is nearby but lost.

  • Been waiting for a bit of a price drop. Thanks OP!

  • Code can't be used on this order, ebay says.

    • I suspect you need to have Ebay plus membership to access the code.
