    • You can get pretty decent headlamps on Aliexpress with an 18600 battery built in for about $7. You can't even buy one of those batteries in Aus for that price.

Got an example? I've bought some with built in batteries before and they were terrible

I've tried the super cheap ones from AliExpress and they're terrible. The battery compartment was at the back and the cable came loose, I tried putting it back and it started smoking..

Maybe try the convoy h1 with the 519a emitter if you don't need a red light. Around $30. Convoy is an actual flashlight company.

I bought these ones a little while back, pretty happy with them, great for the price. They were cheaper back then too, I think it's a moving feast with this sort of product.

          • @illogicalerror: Despite the downvotes, these are great for cheap lights that you can let the kids run with and keep hanging round in the bottom drawer for whenever. Way better than last gen cheap lamps.

Not nitecore or sofirn, etc, but horses for courses.

This is about $46 on aliexpress if your not in a rush

Good price. Bought these July last year for $59.85. Very good piece of kit.

Nitecore headlamps are rock solid. I had had the original NU25 as well as the larger NU30, and got the new style NU25 as shown here last year. They are well made, lightweight and bright. (BTW the red LEDs are great if you have gnats in summer as they aren't attracted to the light). This one has a spot and a flood lamp which you can use together or separately. They are comfortable to wear when out in the backyard getting things done, walking the dog, and so on. (They all still work well, I just have them in front and back of the house so they are at the ready)

Good detail. would also like to add for people looking,

      • The original NU25 (non usb-C) is very popular (possibly most important) among ultralight bikepacking and sometimes even preferred over the new version for various reasons.
      • As user 'selka' also says, Aliexpress sells these for ~$40 but also ultralight variant for NU25 (i prefer the ultralight one as it fits in the pocket more nicely)
      • I recommend people looking at entire nitecore range [for headlamps] and choosing a model that suits their needs. But as stated above, this is probably the most popular model.
      • Then there's all the other competing brands like wuben, sofirn, wurrkos but I think nitecore offers a good starting point

These are good headlamps, but you're better off getting one with a replaceable battery. You can swap in a new battery when the current goes dead, and you don't have to worry about the capacity of the in built battery degrading - forcing you to buy an entire new headlamp.

I've got both the Nitecore UT27 and HA13 for that exact reason. They take a removable rechargeable battery pack but also 3xAAA cells. The HA13 is a little lighter but UT27 has more beam options (although no moonlight mode).

Sure there are brighter/cheaper/longer lasting headlamps available but it all comes down to your use case.

    • You see statements that Li-Ion are good for at least charge 500 cycles. With these lamps you can see when you are down to 20% level, so you know when you need to charge - thus not overusing the charge cycles. Making an assumption here, but if you are only charging once a week (say you use it 5 times for an hour on High) then you have 10 years before you get to the 500 charge cycles. Of course if your utilisation is more extreme you may wear it more quickly. But then you also might start to have physical problems from drops and so on.

Another lightweight headlamp to consider would be the Sofirn HS10. Also USB-C, and 81g/800mAh vs 56g/650mAh. Just the one emitter, but it's high CRI (LH351D 90CRI). I swapped from my old NU25 to the Sofirn in 4000k because the light is just so nice in use. And dirt cheap (<$25 on Ali).

    • Link?

    • Do those weights include battery and headband? I doubt I will replace my original NU25 (with bungie cord headband) until it dies, but that sounds pretty nice, especially for the price.

      • Yes, that's including the 16340 battery and headband, for the HS10. NU25 specs from their site, and would include the band (and battery obviously).

I have quite a few of these and the bracket have all broken somehow, it's always been the weak point with these Nitecore headlamps, and this model is one of those where the way the bracket is holding the headlamp itself is very weak. I have 3 different models where they break due to a drop.

I like the ArmyTek C2 Pro Nichia, ZebraLight H600 Fc, Skilhunt H150

There are so many good alternative to a $3 Arlec

    • My Armytek died after about 8 years of use.
Shipping to fix warranty is a pain.

      • Ground Force International is the ArmyTek dealer in Australia:
        https://www.gfpa.com.au

I wonder if they'd handle a warranty replacement like Zen Imports (Leatherman, Ledlenser) or Sheldon & Hammond (Victorinox) do irrespective of where the item was purchased.

        Ah, nope:

Ground Force International only distributes products through our approved dealer network.

For warranty, returns or support, please contact your place of purchase.

        • Yea, I got mine on eBay. Fat chance.

  • I can't see how this a deal. There are much better lights (Wuben H1, for example) that emit more light for a lower cost.

    • I really like my Wuben H1, it’s just a bit heavy. But the output is excellent. I need a lightweight running headlamp if anyone has any suggestions. I saw the Petzl Bindi but it is $110.

      • I have Wuben h1 as well. removed the overhead strap. i can recommend the NU25 UL for running at 45g. 10g heavier than petzl bindi but has usb-c and and has brighter setting.
