Looking for a New VPN Provider

I've had an account with PIA for many years, and I received an email saying that I need to renew. Which is strange, because my account has been on auto-renew forever.

When I checked my account, I can see that auto-renew is now turned off. It seems that the only way I can renew is to have auto-renew turned on. The trouble is, their system won't let me turn it on, and the error message says that it's probably because my payment method is a "legacy paypal account" (whatever that means).

So, I cannot change my payment method unless auto-renew is turned on, and I can't turn auto-renew on because of my payment method. A classic catch-22.

I've chatted with two representatives, and basically they say that I have to abandon my existing account and create a new account with them.

So, I'd like to investigate other VPN providers, ideally ones that can provide actual customer service. Any suggestions?

  • Something similar happened to me in the past, I was on an old, really cheap yearly plan with them then they changed something which broke my ability to auto-renew and the only solution that they could offer was for me to re-sub at a higher yearly rate.

NordVPN or Surfshark with 100% cashback?

  • Mullvad looks like a decent option. Can use it as a tailscale exit node as well which is super cool 😎

Auto renew = full price? Yikes

The last thing I wanna do is auto-renew with PIA, although I have been using them for 10+ years without auto renewal and no issues.

  • NordVPN is fast for me. SurfShark is disappointing. Very very slow.

    • They basically use the same servers though…

  • You can try P33k@boo VPN.
It’s cheap and that’s it lol

cant trust any aussie company with data, considering the ability for government to force a back-door.

  • I have used PIA for many years now, managed to get it for $109 for three years.

    • That is almost normal price. $39.90 per year usually.

  • Norton is very cheap but barebones. Try for free 30 days.
