Eeeew no google store and China ROM only

    • +8

Umm that's a good thing. There's no global ROM for this so you won't get a fake ROM and Google Play is enabled through settings. Obviously they can't have it turned on by default in China.

      • So can I install google play on this? Through side load apk installation?

        • +2

Yes, you enable the google basic support via settings then install google play store apk.

      • any chances on getting mode 2022 pad pro 11.2" 2.5K OLED

        • Doubt it. Discontinued model and hard to find stock anywhere.

          • @Clear: damn I should have gotten two last time then rip

    • +1

Actually it's much better with the original Chinese rom that gets updated often than the custom room that will never get updates. I know this because I have one and it's been great.

      • Stupid Question Time: Does the Chinese ROM have an English language option in the settings?

        • +1

yes but only English and chinese, no other languages.

  • After selecting the "8GB/128GB" and the "Grey Standard" the typing in the SCA20 code I get AU$346.12! Is that right?
This one seems identical but has a "Global ROM" using the same SCA20 code for AU$312.25
I would much prefer a Global ROM. You can also get a flip case for about an extra AU$15.

    • +3

What's your USD price? AUD will fluctuate and will be higher if you use AliExpress' rate and not the actual exchange rate.

There's no Global ROM officially either. You're getting an unlocked bootloader with another Lenovo tablet's ROM flashed on-top resulting in poor performance, no updates and no Widevine DRM for Netflix HD.

      • My U.S$ price is US$220.08.
Ah yes I watched a Y.T video on how to download the Google Play Store, seems easy.

      • Do you mind having a quick look at this seller?
        https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006134679485.html
It says it'll be US $183.37/198.82 during the sale, almost seems too good to be true?
It's the China ROM which is what I'm after

        • +1

That price will be ex GST. Seller is AliExpress so it's legit.

          • @Clear: Thanks! Huge fan of choice shipping, usually arrives at my doorstep in a week.

I would suggest against any "global rom" for these devices unless there is an official one.

You can side load play store pretty easily on these devices. Most common issue I have come across is forgetting to activate google services in the settings before you side load.

    小心?

  • that estimated delivery is nearly a month, for $3-4 more you can get this https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005992385271.html which should cut the delivery time in half while still having CN ROM/China ROM.

What am I doing wrong with this formatting?

If anyone is interested, I think this pen is the compatible one $71.53 + GST. Or at least I hope it is for my 2022 pad pro version.

Just reiterating a few points that have already been said across the various listings:
    1. China ROM is the way to go if you want OTA updates. Global ROM is a hack job.
    2. English works fine and you can change the system font to fix the apostrophe spacing problem.
    3. Pay in USD. Their AUD rate is nonsense.
    4. Google is easy to enable, the store can be APK sideloaded if not already installed.

    • Thanks for the tips! Might get one in the upcoming Ali sale
Edit: do you know if there's a magnetic flip case that just protects the screen and acts as a stand?

        • Thanks but not exactly what I'm after. Are there magnets on the device itself to attach a flip case that just protects the screen? I don't really care if the back gets scratched up.

          • @dajackal: I have no idea what you're after. Do you have a reference product for another device?

            • @dontpanic: Nevermind, all good! I'll go for the second one you posted.

              • @dajackal: It's already in my cart… Maybe @Clear can weigh in on this? He seems to know everything there is to know about these things…

                • @dontpanic: I replied to him elsewhere. Legitimate tablet and the store is run by AliExpress themselves. Just be aware the sale price is ex GST.

                  • @Clear: How do you know it's AliExpress themselves? Choice?

                    • +1

@dajackal: Factory Direct Collected Store is owned by them. I checked the business license ages ago.

              • @dajackal: Seems to have gone out of stock, just prior to sale… wonder whether it will come back?

                • @dontpanic: yeah funny that! we'll find out in about 1 hour

                • @dontpanic: OOS still :(

                  • @dajackal: Not anymore

                    • @Clear: Says can't be shipped to address.

I gave up. Needed to get one by July 5, so spent a little extra and went with a different supplier and got the 256GB version with an official case, which brought it just above the threshold for the $40 discount.

Last time I waited around for stock to pop back up, the coupons ran out and I missed out entirely.

                      • @dontpanic: Which one did you get? None of the other sellers had choice shipping

                        • @dajackal: Went with a non-Choice option. Not shipped yet, so will cancel it if I can get this one to work.

But I've had this one twice in my cart only for it to fail at payment. Looks like they drip feed batches of it and you have to be quick to get one.

                          • @dontpanic: You referring to the factory direct collected store?

                            • +1

@dajackal: I had ordered one with "Lenovo Office Store", but I just managed to snag one of these Factory Direct ones at the much more discounted price. So I cancelled the other one (it wasn't going to ship for 9 days).

                              • @dontpanic: Nice work!!!

                                • @dajackal: If you haven't got it to work yet, just keep trying. It should pop up eventually - just gotta be quick with the payment page before it goes out of stock again.

    • Hey philotex. Just got this tab and want to know what system font to change to fix the spacing problem
