https://au.pcmag.com/modems-hotspots/97499/t-mobile-inseego-…Seems kinda… poor?
Not great when compared to a Netgear Nighthawk M2 - I know it's not a 5G but I set the Inseego to 4G only for comparison. When used full on probably not much difference but when spending time in standby mode, it's going to show the difference due to the lack of energy saving features (screen brightness adjustment, turn off unnecessary wifi bands, wifi power adjustments etc). It also runs much warmer. I had both used as in-car WiFi for kid's tablet, only used for about 1hr each day and connected to a car charger so when in use it's charging then basically in standby mode for the rest of the day in the glovebox. The M2 will happily stay in car and still got 90% battery the next day, or about 70% over the weekend if I don't use that car. The Inseego will go into low battery the next evening if I don't use the car and will be flat by the 2nd day.
These have Telstra logos on them, can they be unlocked?
According to this they are unlocked out of the box.
Make sure it supports the right bands, I dunno about 5G but it's missing B40 for LTE which could be important for Optus.
It's not locked. You get a prompt saying it's not a Telstra SIM card but then you press OK and that's it.
However, it doesn't have all the bands the other operators use (particularly bad for Vodafone) so it's slightly handicapped even it's not locked.
I am using the recently bought Moto G54 for $149 as my travel router. Not the ideal setup but with quote a few travel sims being eSim, it's a life saver
is it possible to connect this to my home mesh network for broadband access?
NBN is getting very expensiveIt has an ethernet port, so I can't see why you wouldn't be able to connect that to your WAN port on your main device / router. Unsure if 5G is much cheaper than nbn, with tons of cheap deals floating around currently.
Starting next month, my current NBN plan will cost $85. Given that we have a 200GB phone plan and primarily use the internet at night and on weekends ( the NBN speed is terrible), I'm considering a more cost-effective option. Specifically, I'm thinking of using this with Belong's $40/100GB plan. This should be sufficient for our usage patterns and will help us save money.
Great to know. Good luck!
700GB Belong Mobile Data for $45 on eBay. $5 discount for eBay Plus member.
I'm on felix mobile (unlimited data) and use it for home internet like a few other ozbers. It was $35 a month but think it's $40 now for new sign ups. Read the forums though, as you may not get away with using a device like this. But tethering a moto phone is a cheaper option too.
It's absolutely possible, but simply "plugging this in" to your home network and turning it on will not deliver your objective. You'll either need to configure your home network when/how to utilise this connnection, or manually adjust your source. I use the latter as I work overnights from home and this is often during NBN scheduled outage windows - this is a great back-up device without having to reconfigure everything, I just swap my home router input over to this and rip out the NBN CPE.
If i put a non-telstra sim card I wonder if this device tells how much data used continuously?
Unfortunately this device is not capable of reporting non-Telstra carrier data plan information, it is however capable of reporting data up/downloaded over a period of time - you can set / reset this to line-up with your carrier billing cycle, it will of course differ as the device vs. network data measures are two different sources. Enjoy
According to the Inseego user guide:
"NOTE: The data usage information displayed is an estimate and may differ from your service provider’s data usage numbers. Always refer to your service provider account for precise data usage information."
Can I put any SIM card in this (so not Telstra)? And does it have to be Data-only SIM card or nah?
Inseego, the manufacturer of the device, has left the Australian market so they are probably clearing these out. Will be difficult to get support or warranty if you have any issues
How long should I expect that 5050 mAh battery to last?
